Axim used to sell Art

Using a Dell Axim to make Art Selling easier….

An article at Engadget shows how an Art Gallery is using Dell Axim Handhelds to show info on pieces.

This one goes out to all of you shy would-be patrons of the arts. Granite State MetalWorks, an art gallery and studio in Littleton, N.H., is making use of RFID tags to convey information about the individual pieces to visitors and potential customers. Using the Art-FID system from Sapago, the RFIDs are placed beside works in the gallery, and visitors use a pen-shaped tag reader in combination with a Dell Axim handheld to read a piece?s unique ID number and call up its information. While this would be a convenient system on its own in that ars gratia artis sort of way, let?s remember the business end of art and realize there?s an ulterior motive here ? gallery owners hope to convert more visitors into customers by removing the often uncomfortable act of having to ask curators or staff about pricing.

The New Napster … It sucks!

In effort to be a productive, legal music downloader, I decided to try the $9.95 all you can download deal.

Get access to over 1,000,000 tracks on your PC. Listen to and download all
the music you want for only $9.95 a month. Napster gives you the best ways to
enjoy, discover and share music.

After jumping all over this, I download 20-30 tracks to send to my MP3 player and up pops a window wanting to bill me $2somthing dollars. What the Hell. I read furthur on the site and realize that I can only listen to these songs on my PC. A bit misleading, I say.

My Thought: DRM SUCKS! I guess I will just listen to XM….

Anyone need a camera?

I have had this camera sitting unused since last November. I replaced it with a pocketable camera and this has been sitting around crying to see ebay. When I was packaging up some PSP accessories to mail out, it got my attention and said, "Please Sell Me!". I listened and here we go.

This camera is reviewed here : LINK
I am asking for offers on this wonderful, talking camera(doesn’t really talk).

I feel so naked….

This morning, I woke up at 6am, Woke my daughter and returned to my room to find my 2 year old awake ready to play. To make it easier on my wife, I decided to lay down with him in hope that he falls back asleep. He did, so did I.

8:10AM (10 minutes late for work) : I wake up, Brett is asleep. I sneak into the shower and get ready. In a rush to leave the house. I forgot my Cell Phone (Motorola MPx220) and a box of PSP accessories to mail to reviewers.

10:00AM : I keep reaching for my phone to make a call, its not there. I am lost and lonely without this phone. (even though I work in a Telephone Company Central Office with 90,000+ phone lines running through it.

Do you feel lost and lonely without your gadgets?

Everything You Can Do with Your Pocket PC

"Someone in the Pocket PC newsgroup pointed to a page on AximSite in
response to the question: What are all the cool things I can do with my Pocket
PC?

I think this is the best all-in-one resource I’ve seen for
introducing the functionality of your device and showing the many different ways
it can be enhanced. It covers everything from alternate Personal Information
Managers, browsers, media players, and eBook readers, to Today plugins, wireless
options, games, GPS, and media topics such as recording sound and obtaining
video.

There are many links and screen shots. It’s all well organized
and effectively presented, and deserves a look."

This is well deserved praise for such a great tutorial she did a while back for Aximsite.

90% done with my Pond!

I have been planning on building this pond for 3 years. Work began this weekend on getting it done.

Saturday, A friend that owns a landscaping company and I started at 9AM and dug the hole, padded the hole, lined the hole, filled the hole, and placed river bed rocks all around the hole. At 8PM, we were tired and hungry. The good news is that we got 75% of the total job done. Tonight (Monday), I ran power down the wall and installed a rainproof outlet for the lighting and pumps. I also installed a spotlight for the courtyard.

Now all we have to do is plant the leafy stuff and dress the area around the pond with pebbles and other natural items.

Make sure to click the pics for larger images to see how beautiful the waterfall looks. I will post complete pics when the rest is done and little fishes are swimming around. The big trouble will be keeping Brett, my two year old, out of the pond!

HP NDA. Sign it or Not!

Should we leave this behind and move on or go back and sign the NDA?
A couple months ago, I would say move on… Now, I think we have a good chance to sign the NDA, have a good relationship with HP, and not allow HP to basicly run my site. (oh, if you are wondering, I am talking about iPaqHQ.com)

History
On June 18, 2004 I received an email invitation from HP to join their "Web Evangelist Program". The NDA that we would have had to sign was REAL restrictive and called for all out censorship on the site. I could not agree to this and along with many sites, we did not sign the NDA.

The weekend prior to the release of the 1st of many new iPaqs to come a couple sites began to remove references to "rumored" models as well as adding "not affiliated with HP" on thier sites. Clearly these sites accepted HP’s rules.

No problem, I will buy the models, review them and sell or give away. (hx4700 to my dad) Things are going smoothly and despite not having an inside track, iPaqHQ.com is growing fast and has a bunch of posting going on inside!

Fast Foward
Recently, I was sent a "tip" on a story that Davesipaq.com had run. It was basicly linking to a review from another site. BUT, it was a frontpage NEWS post about a "rumored" product which seems to violate this part of the HP aggreement. ( Demonstrates good faith attempts to moderate and remove all un-announced HP product information, including postings made by participants in the website or forum within 48 hours of the posting )
With this out there, this website has decided it doesn’t need the HP relationship anymore or the "evangelist" program has relaxed a bit.

Solution
Not sure yet… Sent an email to the head of the HP "web evangelist program asking for clarification and to send me a copy of this agreement if the rules allow for posting "unreleased" info found by others. It’s been 4 days and no response, but I think she is out of town.

Original Post on iPaqHQ.

Some say Cingular some say Tmobile…

Some say both…

Over the weekend a user sent an email to me at iPaqHQ.com that linked to a Powerpoint presentation that he found on Davesipaq. This presentation did not say much to REALLY say which provider or both would get the rights to the "rumored" iPaq hw6500. It did say that CINGULAR would support the hw6500 in one of the slides. It did not say that Tmobile would or wouldn’t though.

Why CINGULAR is a good choice for HP in the US?

  • Cingular has the most subscribers in the US.
  • Cingular has the largest EDGE network in the US.
  • Unfortunately, Cingular has one of the worst data packages out there.

Review: Resco Media Suite for PPC

Developer/Vendor: Resco
Price: Approx. $49.95
Rating (out of 5):

Resco Photo Viewer
Price Separate: $24.95 USD

Resco Photo Viewer is a very advanced program packed into a small package. It supports tons of different types of Movie and Video files and has easy ways to view and do minor editing to your photos.

So first off, you are probably wondering why should I buy an almost 25 dollar program when there is a built in Pictures program on your Pocket PC (for WM2003 Devices)? Well there are a few major reasons, first of all, the Pictures program that comes with your Pocket PC is very simple and only supports a limited number of types of files, second, there are no editing features like brightness and contrast control, third, the built in pictures program cannot support other types of files besides pictures like Power Point Presentations and movie clips. That is just naming a few of the advantages, there are many more that may be little, but can make a difference. The built in photo viewer on Pocket PCs really just shows standard images and that is all it can do, while Resco’s Photo Viewer can do so much more.

When your purchase Resco Photo Viewer, like most other Pocket PC programs, you download the trial and then they send you a serial you put in to register the program and unlock all the features. The serial is tied to your owners name so when you tell them your owners name during the purchase process, the serial they give you will only work with that owners name.
