What do you do with

What do you do with a poor performing, overpriced PocketPC?
Find something else it can do and add $200 more to the price tag.

Found this one on Engadget (Via PPCT):
"Looking for a Pocket PC-based GPS system that actually looks and feels more like a dedicated GPS unit? Check out the HP iPaq rz1710 Navigator GPS, which bundles an iPaq 1710 with a car cradle that has a built-in GPS receiver. Pop the iPaq in, swivel it to landscape mode, and you’re up and running. Of course, this means you can’t use the iPaq as a hand-held GPS unit, and moving it from one car to another could be a pain, but you wouldn’t do any of those things with a typical car unit anyhow. Available now in the U.K. for £269 (about $470 US), which sounds like a pretty decent deal to us." ——–

Introducing Windows Vista

This is one I have had a hard time waiting on. No, not a Mobility Post, but one that affects most of us anyhow.

For what seems like years, the Longhorn buzz can be heard everywhere. Even my 3 year old knows what Longhorn is. (or maybe he doesn’t)

At last, Microsoft announce the name of its new and upcoming OS - Windows Vista!

Bringing clarity to your world.
Today we live in a world of more information, more ways to communicate, more things to do. There is more you can do and even more you can discover.
Every day, millions of people around the globe rely on their Windows PC to manage their increasingly digital lives. While familiar tools for managing digital information are powerful, today’s world requires more. In today’s digital world, you want the PC to adapt to you, so you can cut through the clutter and focus on what’s important to you.

Introducing Windows Vista™
It enables a new level of confidence in your PC and in your ability to get the most out of it.
It introduces clear ways to organize and use information the way you want to use it.
It seamlessly connects you to information, people, and devices that help you get the most out of life.

Depending on the agreement, I will try to share my discoveries testing this OS. (need to read what I can and cannot share 1st).

Don’t sit on a Camera

Yes, this should be common sense, but when you have a VERY pocketable camera, its human nature to put it in your pocket.

At my class reunion, all pimped out in the green tie and lime green shirt, I carried my camera in my back pocket. Now this is ok most of the night since I never really sat down, but when we took the group picture, I sat down on the front row. Later, I go to take a picture, and arggghhhh…. My LCD is toast!

$349.00 4 megaixel camera down the tube. Yes, I can still take pictures, but no preview and no way to set up for the conditions that arise. Now this camera can be purchased in a 5 Megapixel flavor for $299.00.

I call up Casio and they quote me $150 for repair… so what to do?

Introducing my new Camera:

Motorola HS850 Bluetooth and the HW6515

HP iPaq HW6515 and Motorola HS850 Pairing

I have tested the Motorola HS850 Bluetooth headset with the HP iPaq HW6515.

Not much to the tutorial, but it visually takes you through the simple process of pairing. Most importantly, it show compatiblity with the 6515. The Motorola HS850 is one of the newest offerings and is Bluetooth 1.2 compliant.

"No wires. No limits. Designed to enhance the experience of any Bluetooth? technology enabled phone, the Motorola Wireless Headset HS850 stores information from the device or devices with which it has been paired (device ID, etc.). Motorola headsets can be paired with up to seven devices. Wirelessly interacts with Bluetooth 1.2 compliant devices, including handsets, PDAs and computers."

GPS Software Review : Arkon MobiNavigator

Jake Richards gets to play with another GPS Package….

"Arkon makes some outstanding mounts for PDAs to use in the GPS area. It was only logical for them to enter the software market in some fashion. With this rebranded Netropa solution, they have entered with one of the best packages on the market. Given the excellent mounts they have on their product list, it’s going to be well worth watching as they create bundles with this software included!" - Jake Richards

Hurricane Dennis : Crazy

Hurricane Dennis the Menace

I don’t know how it will affect us here in Tuscaloosa. We are inland, but in a direct path of the eye. While I have power, I have been watching the storms on the net and found this picture and had to say, "This dude is Crazy". He was surfing in Florida in the wake of the Hurricane.

Car Stereo gets useful inputs!

I can’t believe its taken this long to come up with this…

Now you can play your favourite MP3s and other digital music formats in your car. This great new product accepts a SDRAM memory card or a USB memory stick. Allowing you to copy music from your PC or Laptop and play on this car radio.

Of course the stereo also plays standard CDs and CDR?s giving you endless possibilities to play your own music whilst on the road.

Now all "I" need is for them to add USB and/or SD to one of those DVD LCD Car Stereos I have been eyeing for months.

I’ve seen it all now… A Wooden iPod

Now, I DO NOT like iPods all. I am anti-ipod. Yes, the iPod is a great gadget, but its too much of a "status symbol" now. Caddilac makes a great car, but I never want to own one for the same reasons. Despite my dislike for this gadget, I have to share this little bit… A Wooden iPod!

ZapWizard aka Joshua Driggs, has created a modern masterpiece merging the best of real wood craftsmanship with uber-high-tech design in his project, dubbed the Wood iPod.

As part of his Project Redwood, Driggs is sytematically applying a redwood finish to everything on his desk. The Wood iPod has especially captured the eyes of the modding community — and beyond. Taking a sleak, stylishly designed piece of hardware like the 4G iPod and IMPROVING it with a replacement redwood casing isn’t an easy task — it requires an artist’s hand AND the willingness to void your semi-protective warranty.

Driggs is far from the first one to integrate fine wood with inorganic technology casing, but Driggs has truly honored the iPod with his finely fashioned "brightwork" (aka wood) as we call it here in Annapolis. It would be pretty cool to see an iPAQ tricked-out like this — all it takes is a little wood and a lot of confidence.

Birthday Time : Brett Leckness (3) and Brittney Leckness (12)

Both my daughter and son had birthdays these past two weekends. Take the two parties and my 15 year class reunion and you have what I call a busy week.

My daughter had a ball last weekend with her skating rink party. Brittney turned 12 on June 26, 2005!

Brittney on the right…

Brett turns 3 tommorow (July 4th) and we celebrated his party today and he had a blast as well. The night was topped off with $400+ worth of fireworks that lit up the sky!

Brett finds his Ford F150!

Review : Solarius GPS - Solar Powered GPS Unit

Solarius Bluetooth GPS Receiver
The new Solarius Bluetooth GPS is a high performance GPS receiver with integrated solar charger. When working with patented solar charging circuit, it can deliver up to 30 hours of battery life. The built-in antenna is capable of acquiring satellite signals even in challenging situations such as under foliage or between tall buildings. It takes advantage of the Bluetooth wireless technology to offer hassle free installation on a Bluetooth enabled PDA, laptop and even smart phone.

"Think about it. Where does your GPS spend all of it’s "working" time? In the window, in the sun, just sitting there listening to satellites. What if somebody built a GPS with a solar panel on it that soaked up that sunlight and provided all that free power to the GPS? That would be sweet! And so, along comes Solar GPS with the Solarius. It makes you wonder why didn’t somebody think of that sooner?"

Jake Richards from Aximsite/iPaqHQ reviews this hot new solar GPS Unit for us!

Dinner with a Friend

James Fee, Cageyjames to some, is one of the 1st members and 1st staff members of Aximsite.com! James has moved on and now does the news at Digital Media Thoughts.

James and I have been friends since late 2002 and have spoke on the phone tons, but never a meeting. A few nights ago he was passing through town on business and we decided to get together and have dinner and such. We ate at the Toyko Japanese Steak House here in Tuscaloosa. Man was it good!

Next time I am in the desert, I will be sure to look James up!
