Alpine’s $750 MP3 Player with built in GPS

AlpineBB_lores2.jpg I can remember the days of the green buttoned elite in dash cassette player made by some company named Alpine. Alpine was "the" Car Stereo icon back in my sub pumping days. (hmmm… I still have subs) I haven’t been an avid car audio enthusiast in the past 10 years though. I have some JBL subs powered by a 1000 watt power amp that is all nicely intergrated into my Mustang’s premium factory jam. Anyhow, enough about me, Alpine has not gone away. In fact they are about to release a nice looking Car Navigation system called the Blackbird.

The Blackbird runs on the Windows CE platform, has a 4GB HDD containing preloaded maps of the United States and Canada and approximately 2 million Point of Interest (POI) locations. In addition to the the GPS, it has a traffic info channel and an SD slot so you can use its MP3 player ability.

Pricing and Availability
Blackbird (PMD-B100) will be available January (according to OhGizmo, February now) at a suggested retail index of $750.
