There will probably never be an Ipod Killer, just because today's youth is filled with idiots. Well, mostly idiots. Out of my entire High School, one person owns a Gigabeat F Series. I will soon make it two. When you tell somebody that you got a new MP3 player, they will ask "What kind of Ipod?" Ipod is more expensive than any other MP3 player that I have seen. Do you know for the price I payed for a 10GB Gigabeat F, I could get a 4GB Ipod Mini? Yes, what the crap is that? But like I said, the youth of today is not smart. They don't look at specs. They see "Apple" or other big company names and want to buy it. 9/10 people have never heard of Toshiba's Gigabeat series in my school. Unfortunately, this means that unless advertisement is good then it won't be an Ipod Killer. The only surefire way to be an Ipod Killer, is to kill Apple.

After reading the review and overall comments all I can say is this. NOTHING will kill the Ipod...
period, end of story. Personally, I didn't give into the "fad" of the icon until this year when i bought the ipod video. It is by far leaps and bounds my best technology buy EVER. Now im not an apple fan but they got it right and now i fully understand what the Ipod craze is all about. I have not bought a cd from a store since purchasing my Ipod, I simply buy the songs i want from Itunes. Plus its nice to see someone other than Microsoft succeeding in the marketplace. It wasnt that long ago people longed for someone to topple the great giant, and with the Ipod Apple has a definate lead on good ole Bill and the boys now. If they can come up with a pc with multimedia goodies and a built-in dock and other standard interface devices THEN you will see users buying a computer simply as an Ipod accessory.

iPod Killer?

I'll give you the 5 hour video playback, if that's genuine.

Everything else I can do with my iPod today. Camera integration, AV out, I read that even the XBox360 integration is supported with the exception of Fairplay AAC tracks.

But the Toshiba also has a smaller screen. Less available content. The iTunes vs WMP argument is one that is up for debate.

iPod Killer? No chance. Good product, I'll give it that much.

First, I have to disclose that my brother is a sales rep for Toshiba in this category -- and I have no inside info at this point...

That out of the way, the Gigabeat will always be an also ran to the iPod, regardless of the quality and such. Sorry, but that's the way it is. This is like the Creative Zen / Rio and other capable systems at are already in the pipe.

First, the iPod has the momentum with no cracks in the armor to allow Toshiba a chance into the front row. Other than a possible iTunes monopoly backlash, Apple is pretty buttoned-up. Unlike Palm's fall to Microsoft in handheld domination, Apple is making all the right moves.

Second, there's iTunes. Windows Media and all the other systems -- Yahoo Music whatever, Napster and such lack the ease of use and ease of access to content to drive the Gigabeat over the top. The Windows Media interface is too cluttered and conveluted to drive a mass market move from iTunes.

Third, the iPod has a cult-like following. No one wakes up and says I want one of these ubercool Gigabeats. Nope, people long for the iPod because they want to be part of the flow -- the crowd.

This isn't to say that the Gigabeat isn't a great unit. But, I don't see it killing off the iPod video.

Ooooohhhhh.... I like what I see! If the battery life on this beast is really 5 hours, then I'll be right there beside you declaring it the "iPod Video Killer." I don't know if Toshiba's name will actually kill the iPod Video sales or not, but with the right advertising campaign for this device they could easily do so.
