AIM version for Work

I guess somewhere along the line AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) decided that it need to make a version that better suites corporations IT department.
The new AIM Pro is meant to be used in corporate environments and will make it so that the IT departments can better manage the AIM setups on the network.
In my mind this is one of those items that should not be at work….any logical company (most that I have worked at/done work for have all) banned AIM as it is not a work type activity.
Supposedly there are many workplaces out there that do have it and use it though, so this new version will help those business and make it so they have to PAY to use AIM (which is right now free for personal users).
I guess if your work uses IM for their office communications (instead of phones or email), you may see this coming to your workplace soon!

Hey, did you hear about Milton’s stapler?
Where I work, we are actually required to have MSN Messenger, with everyone in the office (s) on your contact list. I’ll never understand an office env. that would ban it, as it makes for very quick and easy communication, where an e-mail is overkill, or quick questions etc. Especially when people might be on conf. calls or in group online meetings.
Maybe this place is not the norm, but I sure as hell wouldn’t wanna be the norm :)
IBM uses it’s own version of an Instant Messenger, which involves encryption and other security features. When combined with our Lotus Notes application, IM’ng takes on a new world of productivity! It’s just simply awesome.
At a glance, the manager can see who’s in the office when that unexpected Severity One hits us, and she can say “Hey, I need our best who’s here NOW to deal with this. It needs to be solved in the next 10 minutes!”. Also, it’s WAY faster to IM someone than to email them. Plus, you can set your status so people actually know when you’re out to lunch (physically vs mentally! :-) ) and a bunch of other things.
