Gearing up my Wife and thoughts about kids and iPods

Ok, I got this 1 gig iPod Nano in yesterday for the contest here and I couldn’t resist opening it, what gadget fiend wouldn’t right? Well I get it out of the box and my wife, who has a Sony mini disc player new in the box sitting in our closet still, and my daughter got all giddy when they saw it. So, this opening stemmed two problems that I had to address.
1. My Wife - She now wants a player. She has one on the shelf she’s never opened, so I assume she has no interest. Well the Nano is so small, she said she’d love to use it. Since this Nano is for the contest, I told her I would see what we could come up with. Today I pulled out the seldom used 5 gig Dell Pocket DJ and presented it to her. It has plays for sure support, so I could let her log into my Yahoo Music Unlimited account and sync it all she wants for free on her Dell 700m. (Well the $15/mo I pay) I seldom use Yahoo Music Unlimited on a device, mostly when working on the PC. Problem #1 Solved.
2. My Daughter - Here is the big, big problem I have. iPods are such a freaking status symbol with our yewts. (My Cousin Vinny flashback - don’t understand, ask me!) When she saw this Nano, she acted like the artist formally know as Prince just walked into our house. It was sick really. Well, she is 12 years old and can’t even keep up with her Sony Discman, why should I give her a $200+ player? Do 12 year olds need these? Problem #2 still in limbo.
The problems a gadget fiend live with day to day, how sad huh?

The Nanos are not particularly durable in schools. Tend to crack in half…. Often get stolen if others know about it (and what kid can resist bragging rights? Sometimes it is better getting an uncool knockoff. But, who am I kidding, you will be getting her an ipod of some sort….
Is it sad that I caught the My Cousin Vinny reference before I even made it to the hint? :)
Good fix for Problem #1, I’m sure she’ll be happy with it. Hand-me-downs are still new to the person you give them to. :)
Problem #2 really is a tough decision, isn’t it? If it were a son, I’d say you could get away with a cheapo…. but you know how our ladies always tend to charm their way into getting the exact one they want. hehe
for the love of god dont get anyone an iPod theyre peices of junk save yourself a burst bloodvessel
Not a nano, no. A true geekette would realize how much possible potential there is in it, now how it looks. ;-) Does she realize you can run Linux off of it? If the answer is yes, give it to her, man! She deserves it! (Just kidding. You have now read my comment, please promtly forget it.)
