HP to phase out pen based PDAs

From ZDNet Australia:

"The traditional pen-based PDA market will evaporate within the next four years without significant product innovation, according to Hewlett-Packard (HP). The company will therefore continue to focus the majority of its handheld efforts on converged smart phone devices, relegating its traditional PDAs to the entry-level consumer and SMB markets."

If you are a fan of the stylus, it may be time to get in line to purchase the HP Pocket PC you have been holding out on.  Apparently HP is much more interested in converged devices, and the pen based models will be phased out.  According to them, the market for pen based PDAs is shrinking by 30% a year.  Smartphones are said to be the company’s focus in the handheld market, for the near future.
