X1800 Mobile from ATI

ati-logo.png ATI has begun shipping their X1800 mobile chipset for laptops.

Amazingly, this is based off of the desktop X1800 which means that these laptops will have some great graphics power!

Some details from ExtremeTech:
The two core logic chipsets are based upon the ATI X1800, introduced in October 2005. According to ATI, the Mobility Radeon X1800 XT contains 16 pixel shader pipelines, 8 vertex shaders, and runs at a core clock rate of 550-MHz. The X1800 contains 12 pixel shader pipelines, 8 vertex shaders, and runs at 450 MHz.

You can expect the X1800 to be in the Alienware, Boxx, Eurocom, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Hypersonic, rock, Savrow and Voodoo.

I would think that this will enable you to play some of the newest games on very good graphics settings…ON YOUR LAPTOP! Good news from the company that controls most of the mobile graphics market.

  1. With the 7800gtx go having been out for some time and ATI already having several better performing desktop GPUs (1800xt, 1900xt, xtx, etc), I’m not so sure this will be a very popular choice, but we’ll sure see.
