Cingular Is Going Small In A Big Way!
Posted by Doug Smith on 05/31/06 in Smart Phones
Cingular announced today that it would be "going small in a big way" with the Pantech C300 - the worlds smallest camera flip phone. This cool little phone will be available exclusively only to Cingular’s prepaid GoPhone Customers.
"The new phone, Cingular’s first offering from Pantech, is just 2.72 inches tall, 1.69 inches wide and only 0.76 inches thick with the flip closed. Nevertheless, it boasts bright, large font color screens, a VGA camera with flash and zoom and such features as MP3 ringtones, SMS/MMS/IM client and email messaging, photo caller ID and others."
Cingular was quoted in saying this about the Pantech C300:
"The introduction of the Pantech C300 handset will make Cingular’s GoPhone lineup even hotter than it is today. With its small size, cool style and rich features, the Pantech C300 elevates our prepaid products to a new level," said Judy Cavalieri, vice president of marketing for GoPhone.
"Cingular’s GoPhone customers already have access to the same devices that traditional wireless consumers have, and we are pleased to partner with Pantech to expand their options further than ever before,’ said Ms. Cavalieri.
The Pantech C300 is available in the U.S. through Cingular Wireless retail locations or at http://www.cingular.com/ for $119.99.
Radial iPod Speaker System
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/31/06 in Music Players
An iPod Charger and Sound System from one of the premeir home audio speaker companies! I gotta have one. I purchased my wife one of the cheaper JBL Charging Speaker Systems from JBL and it sounds superb, I can only image how this one will sound.
Check out the JBL Website for more info.
• JBL Radial™
Surround your iPod® with legendary JBL® sound. JBL Radial delivers clean, powerful high- and mid-frequency sound — and plenty of deep, distortion-free bass — from a compact device with almost unlimited versatility. As a music system, JBL Radial stands alone. As a computer peripheral, it replaces (and seriously upgrades) your external speakers and subwoofer. And as a multimedia entertainment center, it even sends your iPod photos and video to a TV monitor. But however and wherever you use it, it’s the sound that sets JBL Radial apart.

The wait is over! Barring some sort of recall, the Q is not going down in flames as the MPx did. I truely believe that this is "the" phone that will shape the future for the Windows Mobile World.

Contest Time : Win an iPod Nano or two!
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/30/06 in Site Items
WIN AN IPOD NANO
I am always for an excuse to have a contest and I have found the perfect occasion. We just hit the 30,000 member milestone in our forums over the weekend. To celebrate, let’s give something away.
Since the theme is about "new" members, lets do this:
Let’s give two iPod Nano 1gb models away. The 1st one to a current member as of this posting that makes some posts between now and June 12, 2006! The other can go to a new member that posts between now and June 12, 2006.
I do not see making the contest any harder than it is. If you are already a member, Post. If you are not, sign up and post. How much you post is not the meter, but if you have more posts, you will have a better chance of being chosen from my weird random methods that do reward more frequent posters.

Multi-folder, Multi-PC Synchronization Features of PocketMirror Professional 2.1 Add New Dimension of Mobile Productivity to Lives of Smartphone Owners
Chapura, Inc., an innovator of synchronization technology for mobile personal information managers (PIMs), today announced that the company has updated its popular Outlook synchronization software, PocketMirror(R) Professional for Microsoft Windows Mobile, to support the Smartphone edition of Windows Mobile 5, in addition to the Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Editions of Windows Mobile 5.0 that the previous version supported. The updated PocketMirror software supports the smartphones produced by manufacturers who use the default Windows Mobile Application Security Policy, such as the Moto Q smartphone from Motorola.
PocketMirror(R) Professional 2.1 for Windows Mobile adds a new dimension of mobile productivity to the lives of smartphone owners by allowing them to synchronize multiple Outlook folders on multiple PCs with their device and keep the folders’ contents organized separately and easily identifiable on the handheld. While the built-in ActiveSync software transfers and updates data only between the default Outlook folders on the PC and Mobile Outlook, Chapura’s exclusive AnyFolder(TM) technology in PocketMirror Professional for Windows Mobile lets customers pick and choose which Outlook Contacts, Calendar and Tasks folders to synchronize with their handheld, including any public and subfolders on a Microsoft Exchange Server. In addition, PocketMirror Professional for Windows Mobile creates folder-like categories, denoted with an asterisk, to keep the data separate on the mobile device like it is in Outlook. This convenient mobile filing system helps customers easily synchronize work folders at their work PC and personal folders with their home PC.
Innergy Power’s Emergency Preparedness Kit
The Emergency Preparedness Kit is a compact, portaable renewable energy source that can be recharged from the sun when power is out.
Innergy Power’s Emergency Preparedness Kit is a unique power solution designed to meet the basic communication and lighting needs of victims of natural disasters and blackouts as well as rescue personnel. The heart of the Emergency Preparedness Kit is the IP1208PP Power Pack, a 12V, 8Ah source of power that can be recharged from the sun, from the wall or from the cigarette lighter (DC outlet) receptacle of a car or truck.
With the included wall charger, the Emergency Preparedness Kit can be left on charge permanently, meaning it will be ready to use immediately during a power outage. The Power Pack comes equipped with a detachable cigarette lighter receptacle (DC plug) that can power a wide range of devices including cell phones, laptop PCs, two-way radios and lighting products. Power can be provided to these devices during sustained power outages caused by blackouts, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, etc. Once the sun is shining, the Power Pack can be recharged with the built-in solar module, eliminating the need for gas-powered generators.
The Emergency Preparedness Kit comes equipped with a 12V halogen light that can be immediately plugged into the Power Pack to provide up to 18 hours of continuous light.
The ballistic nylon carrying case holds the Power Pack, the wall charger, the detachable DC plug, the halogen light and includes sufficient space for other essential emergency supplies like first aid kits.

The Gigabeat S isn’t even here, but here is another to yearn for….
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/30/06 in Music Players
Introducing the Toshiba Gigabeat V30T complete with Mobile TV. The website credit from Engadget leads to a Japanese site I can not even get to translate, so not much to say here. If you can read Japanese, check out the Engadget link below and check out their source.
"The V30T features a 3.5-inch, 320 x 240 display, support for WMV/WMA/MP3/WAV/JPEG and PlaysForSure WMA formats, and a brawny battery capable of up to 7/9/25 hours of TV/video/music playback, respectively, while keeping it all less than an inch thick. But this is all about the TeeVee Jack, so the V30T packs in a 30GB drive which, when combined with the EPG, allows you to record broadcasts up to 24 hours in advance for a maximum of about 130 hours of recorded, portable video. Expect the V30T to drop late June for about $450 in green."

Get free calls with Virgin Mobile by viewing ads
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/30/06 in Smart Phones
With this offer, customers "can get up to 75 minutes of free calls per month if they spend an equal amount of time looking at ads and replying to these ads via text messages."
This may be a good idea for those looking for a good value in cell phone minutes.
Though cell plans can already be pretty cheap, so it will be interesting to see how well this works out.

The manufacturer has just started supplying the first machines to the retailers yesterday and today, and the UX90 should hit the shelves by the end of this week. A number of shops like Yodobashi Camera have some demo machines on display from this afternoon onwards and some other shops have not received their units yet, so this really is HOT news!"
Motorola Q Review
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/30/06 in Smart Phones
Matt Miller over at Geek.com turns out one of the 1st "real" reviews of the Motorola Q!
"I was ready to purchase the Motorola Q after using it for the last couple of months and was quite surprised to see it available for only $199 after instant rebate with a two-year service plan. However, the Verizon Wireless minimum monthly fee of $80 makes it too expensive for the consumer, and too expensive for me to add to my collection. The business user may not balk at the monthly fees, though. One weak area of the Q as it enters the enterprise market to compete with the BlackBerry is that AKU-2 with push e-mail is not yet supported, and this may impact the business purchaser. You could set up the Q to sync at intervals as short as 5 minutes, so I honestly don’t know how important this ability is, but when you try to compare the Q to a Blackberry that has push e-mail out of the box this may make a difference."

There is no substitute for a quality, well written review. No video can put into words what Matt can put in digital ink. Well Done Matt.
