Chocolate = Early Valentine’s Day Present?
Posted by Richard Cunningham on 07/31/06 in Smart Phones
It’s never to early to start thinking about Valentine’s Day, but if you wait too long, this Chocolate phone may not be available. The LG Chocolate (aka LG VX8500) cell phone is the latest and greatest addition to the Verizon line of music phones. PC Magazine gives this phone a great review, and has some nice pictures as well.
It is a slider phone, one that when retracted reminds me of an iPod nano. But you won’t be phoning home on one them, whereas this one not only lets you phone but take advantage of streaming audio and video courtesy of Verizon’s V Cast service. Check out the full article here.

Verizon unbundles music
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/31/06 in Smart Phones
Some good news for verizon music fans…
Verizon has unbundled the music portion of its Vcast multimedia bundle, effectively scrapping the $15 monthly hurdle needed to download digital music. Vcast is Verizon’s subscription service which includes videos and games, and until today, the Vcast music store.
Existing Verizon subscribers won’t be able to play MP3 files they’ve acquired through other means - functionality that was removed when the VCast Music Store was launched in January, a feature that Verizon says it will restore.
Subscribers will also need to pay $150 for a music phone and $100 for a mandatory storage card - and of course will still pay a $1.99 fee per song, which entitles them to a download over the air to the phone, as well as to a PC.
The service only works with Windows Media 10.
Hands-Free And Eyes-Free Email Solution
Posted by Jack Cook on 07/31/06 in Smart Phones
As I was driving up the Maine Turnpike the other day, I saw a car weaving back and forth, get back on track, then start weaving again. It was one of those situations that you just want to get past and far away from the car. As I passed the vehicle, I noticed that the driver was using a handheld with a distinctive blue color. He was checking and replying to his emails….DUMB!
There is a solution that one can consider if you want to keep your eyes trained on the road and it is called iLane.

Daniel is up to his AR tricks again!
Back in March, we shared his Augmented Reality on i-mate SP5 magic. Now, it is my pleasure to share his newest experiment, AR on the Gizmondo.
The Handheld AR project extended from PDAs and Smartphones to commercial gaming consoles. In July 2006 we ported our simple demo that shows our technology onto Gizmondo gaming device.
Check out his site to see a super cool video and to download a demo of this technology. ( you have to have an unlocked Gizmondo though)

The Memorex iFlip - easily view your ipod videos
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/30/06 in Music Players
Finally there’s an easy way to get your iPod’s videos onto a screen large enough for you to actually bother watching while still keeping it portable. The iFlip looks like a portable DVD player, however it easily docks an iPod right into the front of it so you can play your videos on a screen large enough to share with others.
It features an 8.4-inch LCD display and offers a native resolution of 480 x 234. It also has speakers in it so you don’t have to try to share ear-buds. If you do want to listen with headphones, however, there are 2 headphone jacks as well as S-video out and line-out jacks.
The iFlip is powered by a lithium-ion battery which will last for 5 hours of playback so you could easily watch a couple of movies from your iPod. The player has an onscreen menu for adjusting video settings such as brightness and contrast, however all video control is still done from your iPod.
It was designed for the 5th generation iPod, and will only work with them. The iFlip will be available in September of 2006 for about $200 and come in both black or white.
Microsoft to preload content on to Zune
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/30/06 in Music Players
More Zune rumors are starting to surface, I am guess this will become a torrent before too long, still if this is not the marketing plan of Microsoft they seriously need to have a look at their security….
Bloggers involved in the development of the new device(s) have confirmed that Zune is to come pre-loaded with some content. Whether this means an audio track, an album, a film, a game, a combination of all of these, or something else entirely, is anyone’s guess.
Meanwhile, Zune head honcho Robbie Bach, officially known as President of Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft, dropped some more hints about the player at an annual financial meeting.

Helio Display Projects Video In Thin Air
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/29/06 in General
Video appears float right in front of your eyes using this modified projector. It can work with any device
such as a laptop, camcorder or tv as the media source. The images are not holographic but free-space. The images are two-dimensional but appear 3D since there is no depth of field. The images project as 30" diagonal in a 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9. Currently brightness is an issue an it is recommended that this system be used in a dark room. Eventually, as the the technology improves, this system will have alot of promise.
