I have gone ahead and upgrade my Moto Q to the recent upgrade. The following is what some of the features it enabled. Read on for a step by step screen shot of my Upgrade Process.
The MOTO Q software update is focused on enabling enhanced enterprise functionality and expanded connectivity.
-
The enhanced enterprise functionality is centered on the Windows Mobile Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP). MSFP, together with Microsoft Exchange 2003 (SP2), includes Direct Push Technology, global address book lookup and enhanced mobile device management and security, including the ability to remotely wipe data from devices and options for stronger encryption of data.

MOTO Q connectivity is expanded with the addition of Dial-up Networking (DUN) capabilities. Users can have broadband-like EVDO download speeds on their laptop by using their MOTO Q as a wireless modem via USB or Bluetooth for an additional fee. For information on how to setup DUN users can visit www.motoqwiki.com.

What’s the deal with Handango?
Posted by John Hatfield on 08/31/06 in Rants
$6.95 "download protection fee", you gotta be kidding me. I have been a long time user of handango and have never had a problem with them in the past, until today!! Four months ago I went on a little software spree and bought four titles within a month. Everything went great, the software downloaded fine, and I went on with my business. Today I had to re-download a title from the spree so I logged in to my control panel, went to recent purchases and much to my dismay, was hit with a screen asking me to pay a $6.95 download protection fee to re-download my software. W.T.H is going on with that??? I can’t help but feel like I am being ripped off!
So, due to this money hungry action I will no longer be doing business with Handango! I know of plenty of other sites (pocketgear.com) that take great care of their customers, and I will be giving them my busiiness from now on.
Good Luck Handango, i know I am not the only one who is upset about this.
Let’s Talk About One Hand Navigation
Posted by Chris Leckness on 08/31/06 in PocketPC, Smart Phones
Have you ever wanted to give some input into developments on technology you love and use? Well, here is your chance, Microsoft’s Mobile Dev Team wants to talk about One Hand Navigation!
"I’ve really enjoyed all the insightful responses to Scott’s “what features would you spend your $100 on?” entry. Thank you for your passion around our product. One feature request that kept coming up was “better one hand navigation.” I’d like to have some discussion on this subject and better understand what you’re asking for there. I’m going to make some assumptions, give some information, and then ask for clarification on what you’re looking for."

Live College Football on Mobile ESPN
In a first for the U.S. market, the struggling Mobile ESPN network is offering live and complete football games for viewing on cell phones.
The service will offer subscribers up to 25 games per month from ESPN and ESPN2, starting with Florida State vs. Miami on September 4, and will run throughout the 2006 college football season. The games also will be shown on air and on the ESPN360 broadband channel.

Untie Me! USB goes Wireless!
Posted by Chris Leckness on 08/31/06 in General
The race is over as Y-E Data Inc., a Japanese company, will make a wireless USB hub available to the public in October. Belkin was in the race as well as other companies to be the first out with this exciting technology. USB can connect a multitude of devices to your computer, but that means a multitude of wires and USB hubs connecting them. This technology promises to untie us. If you’ve ever tried to move your computer just to access the rear panel, you know how difficult that can be. So this technology is sure to be a winner and a great profit-maker for the company that can deliver it.
This hub uses UWB (ultra wideband) wireless technology. The data transfer rate can be up to 100 mbps over a 10 meter distance. This hub will be available first in Japan for $200. Hopefully it will come down in price quickly by the time it comes to the US.

Stolen smart phones scream to be found
Joris Evers from CNET News.com put up a story on a new service that can remotely make a smart phone emit a “high-pitched wail” so it can be found after it has been stolen or misplaced.
What a “cool” idea….can you imagine “that ear-piercing ring you hear in a restaurant might not be somebody who forgot to set their cell phone to vibrate” but rather someone who stole a phone.
A new service called Mobile Manager, from Synchronica, can remotely make a Windows Mobile-based handset emit an “annoying and embarrassing high-pitched wail,” so it can be found after it has been stolen or misplaced.
