12-Month Campaign to Culminate at Super Bowl XLII
Sprint and the National Football League have once again teamed up - this time to benefit NFL Charities, at-risk youth and the environment. Fans who attend Super Bowl XLI festivities in South Florida will be the first to have the opportunity to contribute to the new "Sprint Interception" campaign by donating their used wireless phone.
On Feb. 4, fans attending Super Bowl XLI at Dolphin Stadium will receive a pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope at their seats to recycle their used wireless phones, batteries and accessories. In addition to the in-stadium envelope giveaway, Sprint Interception envelopes will be available at other locations - such as South Beach’s Lummus Park ("Shulaville") and the Miami Beach Convention Center - in South Florida throughout the week leading up to the game.

Windows Mobile flaws could crash phones
Posted by Jack Cook on 01/31/07 in Pocket PC Phones, PocketPC, Smart Phones, UMPC
Joris Evers from CNET News.com posted a story today on Windows Mobile flaws. He indicated that a security firm has found a pair of security bugs in Microsoft’s Windows Mobile which, if exploited, could crash phones and other devices running the software.
He also stated that the vulnerabilities lie in Windows Mobile Internet Explorer and Windows Mobile Pictures and Video, Trend Micro, a Tokyo-based security vendor, said in a pair of security alerts. Viewing a rigged Web page or malicious JPEG image file on a Windows Mobile device will cause it to fail, according to Trend Micro.

Disney Flash Drives
Posted by Chris Leckness on 01/31/07 in General
My family and I just returned from Disney World one month ago, and I can tell you that the Disney spirit is alive and thriving. Buffalo Corp Japan just announced the Tiny Collection of USB Flash drives that feature three Disney characters, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pohh and Stitch.
The USB 2.0 flash drives are compatible with Windows and Mac and will offer 512MB of storage.
I’ll tell you one thing, this won’t just be popular with children. Many adults will gobble these up as well. And only 5000 of each will be produced.

Pocket Printer
Posted by Chris Leckness on 01/31/07 in General
The cool thing about digital cameras is the ability to view your photos right after you take them. But
the screens tend to be very small and hard to view, and you really can’t give the pictures to anyone; you have to go home and print them or email them.
But shortly, ZINK will produce a handhled printer that will print 2 x 3 photos using special paper. There will be no liquid ink, the picture is created by putting varying amounts of pressure on the polymer paper.
Expect the printer to go for a reasonable $99 and the paper for a reasonable $19.95 for 100 pieces.
Canon HV20 High Def Camcorder
Posted by Chris Leckness on 01/31/07 in General
It’s just not safe anymore for the stars to slather on makeup and go on TV. Not with Hi-Def. You can
see every blemish, every pock mark and every bit of makeup. That explains why Jessica Simpson is always pushing that Acne medicine on TV. You can bet her home movies aren’t made with the new HV20 High Def Camcorder from Canon.
This beauty is capable of recording 1080 video in 16:9 format. It records to MiniDV tape, has a 10x optical zoom and built-in image stabilization. Expect the price to be around $1099.
Workaround for a "Clean Install"
This is interesting … was it an error of omission?
Microsoft internal documentation reveals a workaround for Vista Upgrade DVDs with no need for a previous version of Windows
Just when everyone thought that all hope was lost when it comes to performing a clean install with a Windows Vista Upgrade DVD, a gleam of light can now be seen at the end of the tunnel. A new workaround proposed by Paul Thurrott (via Microsoft internal documents) has been confirmed to work by DailyTech.

Samsung YP-T9 4GB
Posted by Jack Cook on 01/31/07 in Music Players
Samsung believes in choices and they certainly offer a wide variety for folks to choose from. This is one review that caught my attention on one of their new MP3 players … nice device!
People love to throw around the term “iPod killer”, and if ever there was an iPod nano killer, the Samsung T9 is it. Boasting features usually reserved for larger hard drive based players, a super-sleak design and one of the most intuitive interfaces since the original iPod, the T9 trounces the nano on nearly every front.
Skeptical? Then take a moment and read the review of the Samsung YP-T9 4GB here at Digital Trends.
i-Mate KJAR Coming Soon!
Posted by Chris Leckness on 01/31/07 in Pocket PC Phones
Oh boy, i-mate and their crazy device naming again… I guess it’s a follow up to the Kjam.
The KJAR has a TI OMAP750 CPU, 128MB ROM, 64MB RAM, 2-megapixel camera, miniSD expansion, 802.11b, and Bluetooth 1.2. According to Mobile Mag, the specs on the FCC site show that it’s a tri-band phone, once again, leaving Cingular users in a pickle again.
Unlike the Kjam, this one flips and rotates similar to the JasJar (HTC Universal). I-mate phones have been a hot topic around here lately. Mobility Site has reviewed 2 of their phones recently. The SPL Smartphone and the JAQ3 Pocket PC Phone.
Oh, BTW… This thing is codenamed the Tech Faith Wireless Pam according to the users manual. The manual also has TBD in the weight column of the specs. I was hoping to found out how many Ounces it weighs.

Apple Shuffles Shuffle Lineup
Posted by Richard Cunningham on 01/30/07 in iPod
Less than two months after it’s introduction, Apple has made some changes to the new 2nd generation iPod Shuffle. When it was originally released, it came in one color (Silver), and it shipped with the first generation lollipop earbuds (the ones that hurt my ears after only 20 minutes). Well, Apple has corrected both of what I consider minor problems.
Dart Devices… A next big thing?
Posted by PsionAndy on 01/30/07 in Companies, General, PocketPC, Smart Phones, The Internet
So you’ve got your new "Digital Lifestyle" set up.,. your set top box, your PC, couple of PDAs a smartphone or two, and a DVR for good measure.. The only problem is that the only thing that seems to talk to them all is that PC. Wouldn’t it be just dandy if they could talk to each other natively without having to mess around with protocols, drivers, profiles etc?Well that’s part of Motorola’s big new plan. They’ve just done a deal with DART Devices who think they have the technology to do it
"DART's solution, which helps facilitate interoperability for multipleapplications on disparate devices, aligns well with Motorola's vision ofseamless mobility," said Tony Palcheck, investment manager, MotorolaVentures. "Their software allows wired and wireless distribution ofapplications, games and information such as music, photos, video, calendarsand data, across mobile phones, PCs, Internet servers, PDAs, set-tops, MP3players and DVRs."
Now apart from the fact that he uses the words ‘Facilitate interoperability’ instead of ‘work’ this looks interesting. A brief hop over to the other half of the partnership Dart say
“DARTdevices’ cool technology provides a seamless way for diverse consumer entertainment devices, mobile gadgets and computers to interact, securely share and update information and applications. DART software provides peer-to-peer content access and distribution by effectively turning all devices into one virtual device. It is a product that has to be seen to be fully understood…”
Chris Shipley, executive producer of DEMO.
Its a shame then that the likes of you and me aren’t going to be able to see it yet, unless you happen to own a large electronics company DART are being very shy at the moment.
While Dart can run on an extremely wide range of digital devices, the initial devices we will support are Windows and Mac PCs, popular smartphones, Windows and Linux Internet servers and devices targeted as part of alliances with device vendors, wireless and wired carriers or other partners.
So it looks like it’s going to be either, a really snazzy set of technology, that we are all going to come to know and love, or another one of those ideas dies (Gizmondo anyone?)
Windows Vista upgrade guide - part 2
Chris Ziegler from Engadget has the second installment on a Windows Vista Upgrade Guide. This installment deals with hardware … it is a must read!
Microsoft hasn’t been shy in helping itself to generous new box-selling hardware requirements for Vista. Though the term “bloatware” comes immediately to mind, an argument could be made for a pretty stiff bump in specs — it has been over five years since the release of its immediate predecessor, after all. Times have changed, and so have the average home and business computers. XP’s run on the desktop has seen the fall of CRTs, the commoditization of broadband, and the multiplication of processor cores, just to name a choice few of the decade’s sea changes in personal computing.
Check out what Chris had to say about Windows Vista upgrade guide, part 2: hardware here at Engadget.
