Orange and Vodafone play with each others toys…

In an all to rare outbreak of common sense in the UK, Orange and Vodafone have signed a deal to share their 3G networks RANS..  including masts,  antennas, power supplies etc..

At the moment Orange has a smaller 3G network and so obviously would gain a coverage, but Vodafone would benefit from the cost savings involved in having less masts to maintain.

The show of goodwill isn’t going to change the way they compete against each other… and how roaming will work, but it still sounds like a step in the right direction.

"This proposal is industry leading and will enable the two companies to remain vigorously competitive against each other and the market, while realising the proven benefits of network sharing, notably faster roll out of high speed mobile services in the future and the earlier introduction of innovative products", explained Nick Read, CEO of Vodafone.

(and if anyone from Vodafone is reading this… can we have a decent data tariff please)
