BLYK… Free mobile calls for Teenagers

There have been rumours flying around about this for a while.. but it’s looking like Teens in The UK and Europe may be able to get free mobile calls due from new startup Blyk.

Ex President of Nokia, the fantastically named, Pekka Ala-Pietila, is expected to announce the pieces of the jigsaw with Orange providing the network, and the likes of Coca Cola, L’oreal, Disney etc  using it to advertise their beverages, shampoo and novelty mouse ears to the poor unsuspecting victims  teens and 20s.

Normally a brave idea like this is either doomed to failure as they are unable to pay the bills, or squashed by one of the big telcos (as happened previously when the networks all suddenly banned free access to 0800 to stop people using calling cards)… but with everyone on side this may just work.

(except for the flaw in the business plan.. Will people who watch hours of free ads, actually buy your product?)
