Stealing Wifi is Stealing.. say the Boys in Blue

The Boys in Blue... Wireless squadIn the UK it’s been against the law to connect to any computer system that you don’t have permission to for quite some time. However it’s one of those laws that hasn’t been strictly enforced, Until Now. This month West Midlands police cautioned 2 people in Worcestershire, for connecting to wifi broadband connection without the home

Neighbours in Redditch, Worcestershire, contacted police on Saturday after seeing a man inside a car using a laptop while parked outside a house. He was arrested and cautioned. A woman was arrested in similar circumstances in the town earlier this month.

In the earlier incident, a woman was arrested after attracting the attention of neighbours in the early morning.

She had put up cardboard around her car windows but the light from her computer could be seen through the back window.

PC Tony Humphreys, from West Mercia police, told The Guardian: " Wireless networks don’t stop at the walls of your home.

"Without the necessary protection, neighbours or people in the road may be able to connect to your network. This might slow down your service or, more importantly, your connection could be used for unlawful purposes."
