Touch it!

I was enthralled with the Microsoft Surface videos that I posted a little while ago.  It is such a SLICK technology and at the time, I thought it would be cool to have on a laptop or tablet PC.  However the electronics that would be needed would make those faithful companions too huge and it will be forever before the technology arrives … or would it?

Long Zheng from istartedsomething.com has a clip with Microsoft Research Cambridge’s Steve Hodges showing off infrared-based multi-touch technology for computer laptops .  This is a “off the shelf” Dell with some modifications.  A few infrared sensors and the software for multi-touch and all of a sudden you have a “portable surface” computer … very cool.
