RoadWired Becomes Skooba Design, Introduces Slew of New Products

image Award-winning carrying case manufacturer RoadWired has changed its name to Skooba Design, added the first group of many new products, and a new website, Skooba Design.

On the product front, the company is expanding its family of Skooba Skins — patent-pending laptop carriers which uniquely convert from sleeve to tote configuration — with the addition of a “DIY”  (Design it Yourself) Skin. The DIY Skin — made of blank, natural canvas — may be decorated using markers, airbrush, fabric paint, or a variety of other methods, creating a one-of-a-kind laptop bag.

image Skooba Design has also introduced a “micro” size Skin for ultraportable laptops, adding to existing sizes and ensuring that there is a Skooba Skin to fit virtually any laptop. There are now 32 size/fabric/color Skin combinations with more are on the way. According to company spokesperson Lorri Diggory, “customers love that they can get a laptop sleeve in brown corduroy, blue suede, pink vinyl, or other unique finishes, and we’re going to keep the new styles coming.”

image Skooba has also announced the introduction of the Skooba Satchel 2.0 and Skooba Seventeen 2.0 the latest generation of its original, lightweight, full-featured laptop bags. The products have been updated and enhanced in many areas, most notably the addition of the company’s new, patent-pending Superbungee shoulder strap. The strap features what the company calls a “sport-tuned suspension system,” consisting of a high-density, floating bungee/shock cord ring which acts as a shock absorber, minimizing carrying shock and perceived weight. On the reverse (wearer) side of the contoured shoulder pad is a flexible grid of individual, air-filled cells to further enhance carrying comfort. The cells are covered in a friction laminate, to help keep even the heaviest bag from slipping.

In addition to being supplied as standard on Skooba’s new full-sized bags, the Superbungee Strap will be offered separately, in 6 different color combinations, to upgrade other laptop bags, luggage, sport/duffel bags, camera bags and more. Diggory says “when we started designing the Superbungee, we were shooting for a ‘NASA-worthy’ shoulder strap, and we are very pleased with the results.”

Skooba products range in suggested retail price from $26 to $120.
