8525 users rejoice! HTC releases WM6 upgrade for 8525/Hermes!

Folks who have been coveting the AT&T Tilt need covet no longer, for if you don’t really care about an extra megapixel or autofocus on your camera and your Bluetooth GPS is doing just fine, then head over to HTC and get that official ROM update, available now until February 2008!

Here at Mobilitysite we’re sticklers for safe, so be sure to do a full backup of your 8525 before ramming that ROM onto your Hermes, because the update will blow them away, requiring app/data reinstallation.  For you brave folks, and with any luck, you’ll be sailing the cyberseas with a sweet new OS.

  1. Read it will be available for download starting November 1st 2007 through February 2008!

  2. Did you follow my link in the post? It goes straight to the download page, where it says:

    AT&T 8525 Software Downloads

Welcome to the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the AT&T 8525. Please review the following prior to downloading and installing the ROM update on your device:

    * This ROM is available from November 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008. After this date, the ROM will be removed from the website and will no longer be available for distribution.
    * This ROM update is intended for the AT&T 8525 only and users should not load or attempt to load this version on any other device as it may cause serious issues/damage.
    * At this time, Good Mobile Messaging is not supported on the AT&T 8525 with Windows Mobile 6. It is recommended that Good Mobile Messaging users not upgrade their device’s firmware at this time. Please note that once the latest firmware has been loaded, it can not be undone.
    * HTC strongly suggests that users create a back up copy of this ROM and keep it in a secure place as all new and refurbished 8525 devices (including those received via Warranty Exchange) will come loaded with Windows Mobile 5 rather than Windows Mobile 6.

  3. Yea, I went to the link and it still just went straight to the WM5 link. Interesting.

  4. Hm, interesting. When I posted this article this morning it definitely was for WM6. Just for kicks, I even downloaded the EXE (though I don’t have an 8525). The page I saw was slightly different than what is up there now, showing a dark blue WM6 desktop, and the EXE I downloaded was not the same as what is currently up there.

FYI, I just found a link a few minutes ago on Cingular’s site referencing this as well:

    Very strange!

  5. I saw the upgrade last week. Was having problems downloading. Figured I’d try again this week. It’s gone now. So much for “till Feb. 28th”
