Eye-Fi - Move those Photo’s to your PC effortlessly

Chris posted about this item over a year ago when it was a 1 gig card but now it has been upgraded to 2 gig and looks very enticing.

I saw this item earlier today and thought it was a neat way to deal with pictures you have stored on your digital camera.  With the Eye-Fi, you can upload pictures from your digital camera to your PC or your favorite photo sharing or social networking site. What is it?  The Eye-Fi Card is a wireless memory card. That’s right, a MEMORY CARD with built-in WI-Fi!  Very cool and it works … effortlessly!

Gizmodo had this to say: The verdict Part II: Sure, the Eye-Fi is basically a cradle replacement. But snapping photos and automatically uploading them in real time to share is truly fantastic, especially when the images can be better than one’s camera phone. And the entire product experience is built with simplicity. If you can get over the price and are sick of cords, we strongly recommend the purchase.

I think this is an item definitely worth looking into!

  1. Very cool idea, but I’m curious how it works in practice. For example, many cameras do format conversion when uploading pix, and I’ve had pictures be unreadable when I use a memory card reader to move them to my PC but readable when I use the USB cable and the camera does some conversion. I’m guessing that the WiFi mem card will upload the unconverted photos.

    Anyone tried it?
