WSB-TV debuts 3-D on-air traffic reports to assist Atlanta’s challenged commuters
With over 1.7 million drivers on the road at peak times, Atlanta has some of the most notoriously congested traffic conditions in the country. WSB-TV is helping Atlanta drivers with innovative Triple Team Traffic coverage using its new Beat the Traffic reporting system. WSB is using Beat the Traffic’s
patented technology to create animated 3-D traffic maps showing real-time traffic speeds, incidents and travel times during Channel 2 Action News
traffic segments and, coming soon, live streaming 24/7 on http://www.wsbtv.com.
WSB-TV viewers are the first in Atlanta to view these unique, up-to-the-minute traffic reports to better plan their commute and travel. Brilliant, high-definition maps, icons and real-time traffic speeds provide a high-impact overview of regional road conditions, while allowing reporters to “fly” into traffic hotspots or highlight late-breaking traffic news.
“Atlanta drivers face one of the toughest commutes in the nation. It affects our quality of life and costs the region over $2 billion per year,” notes WSB-TV News Director, Marian Pittman. “WSB-TV is the leading news station in the nation’s 8th largest TV market. Our viewers are always looking for reliable, innovative traffic reports that allow them to make smart decisions about when to leave home and what route to take to work.
We chose Beat the Traffic because we wanted to provide a more useful, visually striking and easy to understand traffic report. Beat the Traffic delivers unique features — like 3D, high-definition animated maps and landmarks, up-to-the-minute traffic flows and current and forecasted
travel times. It is very easy to use for our Triple Team Traffic reporters,
who now have the control to tailor our report based on the latest
information and news breaks.”
