Microsoft Office Live Workspace Beta

This week Microsoft released its public beta of the Office Live Workspace service. If you use Microsoft Office, you’ll want to sign up for Office Live Workspace. Currently in beta, the free service offers online file-storage, document-sharing, and desktop-presentation features.
Workspace doesn’t offer Web-based applications; instead, it uses a free, downloadable plug-in to connect to the desktop versions of Office XP, 2003, and 2007. The plug-in installs a toolbar in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that allows you to save new files to the Workspace site, add files already saved on your hard drive to the site, or open and edit documents previously stored online.
Features:
Anywhere Access
- Store 1000+ Microsoft Office documents in one place
- Access them from almost any computer with a Web browser
- No more flash drives or sending yourself documents via e-mail
Share With Others
- Invite people to your workspace
- You control who can view, comment, and edit your documents
- Stop manually merging versions from multiple people
Works With Microsoft Office
- Open and save files directly from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Synchronize contact, task, and event lists with Outlook
- No need to learn a new program
Office Live Workspace beta will initially be available in English to a limited number of people. Pre-register now to be one of the first to try it. We will keep you posted about when your workspace will be ready.
[Editor’s Note: Please note that this is not similar to Google Docs or Zoho . This is an integration of Office to the Online world. I am not crazy about the idea of creating documents online while surfing and I know my internet connection is not to be believed at all times. I have only been using it a couple of days, but I think Microsoft Office Live Workspace is a great productivity tool.~Susan ]
