Another DRM Bites the Dust…

Sony BMG Music Entertainment, one of the four largest labels, is preparing to offer part of its catalogue sans Digital Rights Management. Score another one for the little guy.
All four of the largest record companies are moving towards untethering our music by removing copy protection schemes. DRM was supposed to safeguard the music against illegal peer to peer network sharing, but instead it has become a thorn in the side of purchasers. For example, if you had bought a song on Apple’s iTunes, you are stuck listening to it only on an Apple product. You would have to repurchase the song from another source if you want to listen to it on another media.
Now Yahoo! Music, and Real Networks’ Rhapsody service are among the few who continue to use DRM. The top four, including Sony, Warner Music, Amazon and Universal Music Grp have already announced DRM free downloads.
