Do you Twitter? Do you RSS? What do you do?

In today’s fast pace information world, you have more than one option to follow the news and info that websites provide. You already know you can just visit the sites, many of you already use RSS, and some use email subscriptions too. Did you know that there are even more ways that we, the website admins, can get content out to you? One of those new methods that I have ignored for so long is Twitter.
Julie Delong, Microsoft MVP and a member of our moderation team, set up a Twitter feed not too long ago. I wasn’t too sold on the whole Twitter thing, but lately, I have been giving it a serious look. I have been using it a lot lately on the personal side. (my link) I have also been looking at how the content is present in Twitter and I really like what Julie has set up. When a post is made here, it sends a message to Twitter and it is published on the Mobilitysite Twitter feed. You can subscribe to it and read it online, in your Twitter application on your device, or even have the alerts text messaged to you. (Mobilitysite’s Twitter Feed)
Another method we use here is using our Odiogo feed. This is really cool if you have a high speed connection and want to listen to our news stories on the way to work, etc.
Here are some ways to get Mobilitysite’s content:
- Standard RSS (Try our Branded Viigo Windows Mobile Reader)
- Twitter Feed
- Email Blast (visit Mobilitysite and look in the right column for a blog to enter address)
- Odiogo feed
What RSS Reader do you use?
I use Google Reader on my desktop and laptop and Viigo on my mobile devices.

I Twitter, therefore you know I am

And i’m a big fan of the whole RSS thing.. iLium Newsbreak is a great way to keep up to date on a windows mobile device
I use twitter to get news for engadget, ars, etc; use hellotxt to post for myself, and have many rss feeds that i read also.
Twitter seems like the biggest waste of time that I have ever heard. From what I have seen of it, it would drive me crazy in no time.
I use RSS, but, personally, I love web services like Google Reader or Bloglines so that I can sit at any device I like and see the stories that I haven’t had a chance to read yet. Newsbreak is nice, for what it is, but when I go back to my PC it seems silly to read RSS on a small device when I have a nice, fast laptop with a nice, wide display. And Google Reader works fine on a WM device.
Anyone on a winmo phone that uses twitter might like my app ceTwit, totally free, no ads etc… I just made it because I like twitter. http://www.kosertech.com/blog/?page_id=5
Last week, I started using twitter for getting my newsfeed. It’s a great way of aggregating one’s favorite news sites.
I’ve avoided using twitter otherwise, because of the IM aspect of it. Too distracting and too tethering for communicating. I like to send an email and walk away.
The first day of twitter newsfeed, I had a few news sites posting straight to my phone. Unfortunately, these sites updated often, so I cut that off quickly. It’s much better to head to twitter for the news I want.
Seem like this would be the typical preference, but I do know others really enjoy the whole IM thing.
Twitter can be a great waste of time, but it can also be a big time saver….it really depends on how you use it.
I’ve set up quite a few twitter accounts that I use from time to time to post announcements to a wide audience (my students). It works really great. But I’ve turned off the cell phone texting option and I don’t have messages popping up on my computer all day long - that would be too distracting.
