Yahoo! Mobile Widgets will be accessible via devices that support the new Yahoo! Go 3.0 client or the recently redesigned Yahoo! mobile home page, available at http://mobile.yahoo.com. During the coming months, the number of compatible devices is expected to expand substantially and begin to roll out internationally.

The initial Yahoo! Mobile Widgets were announced at CES less than two months ago, and included MySpace, eBay, and MTV News, and U.S. versions are currently available for download at http://mobile.yahoo.com.

Yahoo! Go 3.0 in the UK and Europe: Coming Soon!

Launched in January 2008, Yahoo!’s flagship all-in-one mobile application, Yahoo! Go 3.0, is currently available to consumers in the U.S. and supported on more than 50 devices. Yahoo! Go 3.0 is expected to be available in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK at the end of Q2 2008. In the upcoming months, Yahoo! Go 3.0 is expected to be available on hundreds of devices worldwide, accessible by million of users.

Yahoo! Mobile Widgets SDK: Open for Business

The recently-released full SDK (http://mobile.yahoo.com/developers/download) contains all necessary documentation including XML schematics, including example code for use in creating widgets using the Yahoo! Mobile Developer Platform as well as additional guidelines to facilitate the development of new mobile widgets. Additionally, mobile widget developers are encouraged to visit the official Yahoo! Mobile Developers Blog at http://mobile.yahoo.net/developer/blog/) and join the Beta testing community (http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/yhoomobiledevelopers/) presently contributing to the tools being created for developers. Release notes will follow on a regular basis, offering the most recent updates to the SDK and the development process, with a strong effort to work collaboratively to create the best environment to develop mobile widgets across Yahoo!’s expansive mobile network.

The foundation of Yahoo!’s Mobile Widget Developer Platform is the Company’s proprietary developer language, Blueprint. Blueprint is an extremely versatile XML based programming language that allows you to define the business and UI logic and leave visualization to the Widget engine renderer. Developers can then focus on their content and services they want to build into their mobile widget. The Yahoo! Mobile Developer Platform takes care of additional requirements, including how to make the widget attractive on the various devices Yahoo! supports. By providing developers with tools to write code once and efficiently publish their content, Yahoo!’s Mobile Developer Platform is expected to usher in a dramatic acceleration in the adoption of mobile services by creating an explosion of consumer choice.
