No Discounted Software. Contests with the Proceeds!

mobihand So, a few months ago, I tried to negotiate an permanent 18% discount on all software (not hardware) in our software store. Our software store is powered by Mobihand. Their system is not equipped to handle this, so I thought of another way I can give back to this community…

All proceeds from the software store will be tallied at the end of the month and when the check clears, I will put up a poll with a few devices that our cut will afford. When the poll closes, the winning device gets purchased and then a contest for that device. It will not benefit each member of the community with a discount, but it will make one person real happy each month. What do you think?

In the past, I’ve donated our portion to charity and Mobihand has even matched that contribution, showing me that they are top notch. Instead of charity though, I really would like to see members be rewarded for spending their hard earned money in our store. So, I think this is something I’d really like to do.

What do you guys think?

  1. I’d think that perhaps 1 “big prize” and a few smaller ones in the same contest…

Perhaps a phone or ppc phone… something you could leverage from a vendor at a promotional discount… and a headset or GPS or case or similar as the runner up prizes

so there is only 1 contest to manage, but with a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place prize (assuming the budget can afford it of course)

  2. The smaller prizes are an idea, but the one bigger prize is the key here. I am not sure if I want to limit entries into the contest to those that have purchased software that month or not.

  3. From a users point of view I like the mobilitysite store. Mobihand seems more friendly than Handango.
