What do you think of Windows Mobile 6.1 So Far?

Right, I know that not many have devices in their hands with 6.1, but you’ve seen the screenies and videos. What do you think from what you’ve seen so far?
Taking up for Microsoft a bit here… Those that expected a dot release to be a full blown OS revamp to “compete” with new operating systems out there, understand that WM 6.1 for the most part was developed before some of these new operating systems were publicly available. I am pretty sure about this at least. I don’t see how Microsoft could scrap a pending update such as 6.1 and start over just because someone came out with something different. If I sound like an apologist with this, I am. Some of the reports I’ve seen out of CTIA seem to show disappointment in this offering. Maybe Microsoft should speed up their process of development? Maybe.
Across the board in Windows Mobile 6.1, I don’t see much change that will affect the way I do business. So I am going with a C here.

I am going to have to pass until I actually get to play with one. From the videos so far, it looks like it is much faster, fluid and more stable than 6.0
There are also some nice additions like recent programs and threaded sms. But most importantly we need to see how it handles big volume of e-mails and multitasking, two fields it lacked performance.
I think you hit the nail on the head. MS needs to speed up development.
Windows Mobile 6.0 was released in February, 2007. Here it is more than a year later and they are finally getting around to “talking” about a minor point release. In the mean time, Apple released the iPhone 4 months after WM 6, and has already released 3 minor, “point” updates, and plans a 2.0 to be ready in June.
Microsoft seems to treat Windows Mobile as an afterthought, yet other companies — Apple, RIM, Nokia, etc. make improving the mobile experience a priority and many have or will pass WM in feature/functionality/usability within the next 12 months. All of this despite the fact that the one programmer MS has working on WM 7 is busting his tail off to try and stay above water. I grow more and more disenchanted with Microsoft’s support of Windows Mobile every day.
Nobody’s showing a thing about WM 6.1 Professional. You would think that the changes for the better on the non-Touchscreen side would also be available for the Touchscreen models but nope, not even a whimper in terms of the changes.
1). Threaded SMS
2). Internal Memory Load improvements
Why nothing else for us Professionals?
I’ve been running 6.1 on my T-Mobile Dash for the last 3 or 4 weeks using the Kavana ROM posted at xda-developers.com. It is the only solution that I have found for the constant rebooting problem that I reported in my recent article. In addition:
1. The ROM is much, much faster than the T-Mobile ROM.
2. The new “sliding home page” is a pleasure to use.
3. the zooming in PIE has been implemented nicely.
4. the previously missing cut/paste functionality is an appreciated addition.
Overall, nothing really earth-shattering, but definitely worth calling a “stellar update” for those of us previously frustrated with the WM6 rebooting issue.

not available officially for my device. and that’s the biggest challenge for winmo phone owners… 1) official upgrades are exceptions, not the rule…. 2) upgrades are more complicated than just docking your device… what percentage of blackjack 1 owners upgraded to 6.0 do you think? 10%? what percentage of iphone users have upgraded their devices? 90%? see what i mean?
the ms+carrier model is probably the issue. still, regardless of solution, this is a problem.
WM6.1 is derived from Win CE which came out in 1996. Thats 12 years ago. How much time does MS need? Isn’t twelve years enough?
