Customize Your iPhone Home Screen

Now that Apple has fixed some of the things that I didn’t like about the original iPhone, I have been picking it up more. In between testing the Sprint Instinct and the E-Ten Glofiish M810, I have been using the iPhone with the 2.0 Software. It has been a pleasure. I have only had to “hard reset” 2 times. No, that’s not a jab. Just reminds me of something I saw on Twitter. If an application on the iPhone crashes… Oh man, BAD APP. BAD PROGRAM. Nothing wrong with iPhone. If a Windows Mobile App crashes, BAD Microsoft, BAD Windows Mobile. Yep, Apple can do no wrong, right? Well, that doesn’t really matter, Apple has done some things that I am really impressed with. One of them is something so simple, but so useful that I had to share. I touched on this in  “10 iPhone Tips, iPhone Rants, and Battery Tests” last week, but here is a screenshot of what I mean.

By pressing and holding down on one of the icons on the home screen of the iPhone, you can move and delete icons. You now have the ability to have multiple pages of icons. You can get the the other pages by pressing on the dots below the icons or flicking the screen left to right or vice versa. When you hold down the icon and get into the “edit” mode, all the icons shake and icons that are removable have a red x on them.

The screenshot above is my actual home screen. I have chosen to move applications that I don’t use often to the “second page” and moved my favorites to the bottom bar. I use the iPhone as a phone, an email device, a Twitter checker, and an entertainment device. That said, those 4 functions are covered right there at the bottom for quick access.

With this said, you can tell what my favorite Apps are so far right?

  1. Twitteriffic
  2. HoldEm
  3. Paypal
  4. eReader
  5. To Do

Yes, these are in order. Each of them have an important part of my day to day life. Twitter is becoming less important because I waste too much time reading and less time working. Holdem is just plain fun. ToDo is something that Apple seems to have left off and is important to me. Paypal, well… you gotta know how much you can spend right? Yes, I read sometimes and eReader is awesome. A couple others are Facebook and Google too. I don’t like Monkeyball anymore.

  1. Hmm your Article title is a bit misleading. I came here thinking that you had a way of customizing other aspects of the Home screen. Icon moving and deletions have been in place since 1.1.3

  2. You know that the ability to move programs around on the home screen and the multi page home screen were introduced in 1.1.4 version of the iphone software right?

  3. I apologize if it appears to be misleading. It wasn’t quite intended that way. Plain and simple, my iPhone was running 1.2 when I went to update to 2.0 so I missed some things. Even though I bought 3 iPhones when they were released, I have only used an iPhone a max of 2 weeks during that year because of the things that the iPhone COULDN’T DO until 2.0 was released. Sorry about that.
