tiltromupdate HTC Must be getting ready to upload the new AT&T Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM update soon! I just download the file and checked and it is NOT the new 6.1 ROM update but the older version from 1/17/08. It downloaded at 70mb and not the 88mb indicated on the HTC/US Support Page. Stay tuned, more information to come!

The link to the 6.0 ROM is:
    http://member.america.htc.com/download/Software...

I tried using different variations of the file name based on the WM 6.1 screen shot and I have not lucked out. I think the FTP server is the best option in finding it. Does anyone know how to force an FTP server to list its contents?
  • Abe
I inquired today with HTC and here is what they emailed me:"We are currently updating our site in preparation for the release of Windows Mobile 6.1 for the Tilt. We expect to have this available by the end of this month for download."
  • Cameron
    sorry I intended to type

dl_id=68 seems to always be the 70.9 mb download of the 1/17/08 update for the tilt

    sorry..
  • Cameron
Ok this is what I find so far..

This link seems to show a screen shot w/ the version of the WM6.1 Device information Screen dated 07/17/08

    http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id...

This link seems to show the device info screenshot from the 1/17/08 WM6.0 update

    http://www.htc.com/us/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id...

The only difference is cat=1 vs cat=2 .. after playing around.. it appears that neither of these links may be what we are looking for. A crude attempt at trying to figure out what the parameters on the list are led me to believe that p_id is specific to the phone (p_id=67 is ATT Tilt). dl_id appears to refer to the specific download, so this will likely be a different number (dl_id seems to always be the 70.9 mb download of the 1/17/08 update for the tilt). cat kind of puzzles me cat=0, cat=1, and cat=3 all display the info for WM6.1 cat=2 and other cat=4, cat=5 etc all point to the WM6.0 page.

So until someone finds the actual link we will have to wait. I doubt that either of the links I provided will ever lead you to the WM6.1 download we are all hoping for

The new rom will be out soon. My Brother has it on his phone directly from HTC. I will post a screen shot.
  • I just checked and it is NOT live. As Ryan said, please provide links.
  • @Shawn: PLEASE PROVIDE LINK
  • Dave Zaffarano
I have been waiting for a while for the rom update. Just a question, "what good business advertises a product before it available to it's customers".....whether it's ATT or HTC.....some brilliant chap had to update the HTC website, If it's not available then cool, but don't post it is, And when your customers call inquiring about it HTC says ooops.......whatever.
  • Andrew Colacurcio
You know the ATT Tilt is the most used/ bought phone then any other tytn II or varient...and still HTC can't get the phones update to ppl. This company just cashed in the last couple of years because of success in on the American market, and this is how they repay us? It's like ATT wants everyone to buy a iphone before they remind everyone they have a more Superior phone ATT TILT...hold back on the update as long as you can inorder to get ppl to buy a new phone..when in reality the tilt has hardware/specs phones in the future will have.

I just got off of the phone with HTC and they told me that the ROM update was posted with the wrong links, and that the links were suppose to be to the new ROM. They are suppose to be fixing the links some time this week. Seeing that you guys have the tendency to be able to get strings pulled on occasion, maybe you can get them to fix the links sooner!
  • Chandra
Yup. They took it all back to the old way on HTC's website. I guess they got killed with the calls they were getting pointing out the difference between the website description and the version of the firmware available for download. If I was HTC, I'd do the same thing until the new version is actually available for download. This way, it at least reduces all the calls they were getting. I still think we will get the new firmware soon.
  • Shawn
I believe the new update is up - I just checked and it lists the 88 MB file.
  • li
I was on htc support page, under Tilt it still shows the darn old 1.65.502 rom, no new rom mentioned what so ever
  • Anton
I just sim unlocked mine too, but I think the code is for the device so if anything happens I'll just unlock it again or call and get a new code...
  • dr
Before I do anything stupid this week... I just got my SIM unlock code from AT&T last week... Will updating the ROM re-lock it and I'll need to get a new unlock code from them?

(Well, I'm travelling less than a week later... it may be safer not to try a new ROM until I get back anyhow...)

Eh, AT&T loves their customers. I mean, they find ways to get me to call them or stop by all the time. Say, for example they will delete my voicemail box (three times), or remove the ability for me to send or receive a text messages, or they'll sell me on unlimited text messaging because it's cheaper than paying for text messaging on all my family plan phones separately and then charge me for both (yea, all that in just one month). They always want to spend close to an hour with me too... so you see, AT&T loves you all very very much. hahahahaha.

It's in AT&T's nature to make something that should take 5 minutes last 10 times longer (but never in a good way) so it's not surprising to me (or should be to anyone who's been with them more than 6 months) that they are dragging their feet. We are simply their cash cows... Moooo.

(In case you didn't pick up on that, it was highly sarcastic with a hint of bitter)

    Hello everyone,

I was on HTC's website today (like many of you) and I noticed that they had links, specs, screenshots, etc. all pertaining to a Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the AT&T Tilt. However, when I downloaded the file (like many of you) I was disappointed to find out that it was only the Windows Mobile 6.0 update they released earlier in the year. So, I became a little frustrated and called into HTC's Customer Support hotline.

AND HERE IS THE PROOF THAT AT&t IS IGNORING THE CONCERNS OF ITS CUSTOMERS:

I spoke to a male representative about the incorrect file on the HTC website. He stated, "We are aware that there is a broken link for the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the AT&T Tilt, and we are working on having that removed soon." I asked him where could I find the correct file and download it. His reply was, "The Windows Mobile 6.1 update has been availble for quite some time now. However, AT&T has asked us to remove it from our site, because they do not want it released yet. The update will be made available on Monday, August 18, 2008.

DISCLAIMER: I cannot guarantee anyone 100% that this is the exact date the Windows Mobile 6.1 update will be released. I do not work for AT&T. I do not work for Microsoft. I do not work for HTC. However, if anyone is interested, you can call the HTC Support hotline for yourself. The phone number is 1-866-449-8358. And according to the website (http://www.htc.com/us/CA_Hotline.aspx?region=No...), the number is available 24 x 7.

I think this is rediculous that AT&T has made its customers wait this long for this update. Even if they have valid reasons for the delay, they could have at least informed us of why. And even if they chose not to tell us why, they could have still given an estimate as to when it might be released. This is really a shame. I'm not so disturbed that I will take my business elsewhere, but I'm thinking of not purchasing anymore devices from them. I'd rather buy directly from HTC, eBay, or some other electronics retailer, and pop in my AT&T sim card.

I hope this message has helped ease some of the confusion I have read on this board.

    Have a good day...
  • I am getting a lot of emails saying the download is available. Please if you are going to email me, provide the link! this is a huge help. :)

As of 4:00pm CT, going through the front door of the HTC/US website, the ROM description and download are still the old ROM. Through the link I proovided, it is the new ROM, but the download is still the old 1/17/08 version at 70mb. We are supposedly looking for the 88mb download.

    The wait goes on!
  • suhlott
    nope, it was my shame....
  • @suhlott: I was wondering what the smell was! I thought it was the AT&T; ROM Cooking!
  • suhlott
have csuccessfully crapped myself, and now await the official word....

    @Eric

Your assessment of Video Share is right on. Video calling is an intriguing feature and a big leap forward, but not in its current application in the US. The requirements for VS use (must be in 3G area, have a phone with VS capability) is almost as restraining as the results (NO AUDIO, only 1 way video, poor quality, few forward facing camera phones).

Video share is definitely in its infancy stage. Give it a few more years and it will be better.

Is it safe to assume that a ROM update that goes out at this point will have the updated versions of all the other HTC software also? Like SmartDial, Zip, QuickGPS, the Camera app, SIM Manager, Task Manager, Voice Recorder, ...

All the things newer versions that were scraped off of other newer HTC devices and applied to the TILT.
  • Argh. I wasn't paying attention and didn't read the whole article. I flashed my ROM from a cooked ROM to this ROM and now i'm back to where I was a long time ago. I guess that's what I get for not reading everything.

The fact that the webpage is updated makes me hope that sometime really really soon this will be updated to the new ROM. I will probalby just stick how I am till then, although losing threaded sms REALLY sucks. I absolutely love threaded SMS.
  • @James: LMAO ME TOO BROTHER!
