Update on iTunes Eating My Applications

If you saw my late night rant about the iTunes Application store last night, here is an update. I don’t know what caused it and it’s still an issue, but it can be resolved easily, well kind of easy. You will have to re-download the applications. The problem is that it doesn’t have a button to “re-download”, but Matt Miller told me he had this issue and chose the cheapest application and decided to click “buy” and see what happens. I figured what the hell, and tried it too. It works! Check out these screen shots…

I tried Texas Holdem 1st and I got a message that the file size was over 10mb and that I needed to be on a WiFi connection, etc… So I moved to the next program.

Bingo. It worked. This is a very good thing, but I shouldn’t have had to even get to this point. They should have never been removed from my device in the first place.

To the Mobilitysite loyal readers that don’t care about iPhone. I apologize about my iPhone posting spree, but it’s what I am using at the moment and I would like to have some slack on this. I am sure it will pass and I will be back to a Windows Mobile workhorse soon. I have never called the iPhone a toy, but other editors here have and I have to agree, it is a great toy. The thing is, this toy does some work stuff now, so it’s getting better.

  1. Has there been any posts on the Apple forums about other people havng this problem?

It is certainly a pain, but bugs happen and if Apple is aware of it hopefully they will deal with it quickly, since as unavoidable bugs go, this is an ugly one.

What WAS avoidable was the flaw on the itunes site. There should be a button for redownloading software you have already bought. Most of the casual gaming sites such as RealArcade have a feature like that.

It seems to me many of the problems Apple has had with the iPhone 3G rollout are due to hubris. Not only did they not anticipate certain problems, like the activation day rush, but they see.ed to have assumed there would be NO problems at all. Why would you need to download an application again if the iPhone and iTunes are both perfect.

Apple seems to have thought the iPhone was unsinkable. Could there be an iceberg in Apple’s future?
