Gee, Your Laptop Smells Terrific

asus-f6-edit I knew that brand definition was getting harder and harder in the small Laptop market, but SHEESH. It appears that Asus is going through with a rumored feature on it’s new F6V 13 inch notebooks…scent.

Yes, Asus is selling SCENTED laptops, now available from Datavision. Each of the four available colors has a different scent. According the the product page, the “SurfBlue” model is scented “Ocean-like” (I hope not during lowtide), “Vital Green” is scented “Grass-like” (Acapulco Gold?) and “Extreme Black” is scented “Cologne-like” (just what I always wanted, a Brut scented laptop). There is also a pink model, which apparently  is “Musk-scented” (I am not even going to try to comment on that one, but the mind just…boggles). It seems like selling scented laptops lacks a certain amount of gravitas or dignity. To paraphrase Rado and Ragni, “Asus, you have NO face.”

Can there really be a market for scented notebook PCs? Do the scents grow more intense as the CPU works harder? Thinking of it changes my view on the whole “I’m a PC” question…do PCs and Macs smell differently? Why did they choose these scents and not others? It seems to me there must be scents that are more relevant to PCs, I would suggest the following:

  • Impending Deadline Sweat scented
  • Gamey Gamer scented
  • Cool Lime Linux scented
  • Nacho LAN Party scented

Any other suggestions? What do YOU want your laptop to smell like?
