Mobilitysite 6th Birthday Contest - 120 GB Zune

It’s no news that I jumped on the Zune bandwagon when the original Zune was launched. It turned out to be a great move. Microsoft continues to move forward in this market. It’s still an uphill battle, but they seem to be doing a good job with the stellar music store and good hardware. I don’t evangelize Zune much anymore, but it’s still a super device. They are so nice, that I chose to buy a Zune 120 to give to one of you’ll in this Birthday Contest.

Read on for more info on how to win this Zune!

Simple rules again…

Just leave a comment with a paragraph or two about your music player history. Did you start out in the digital media age with a Dell DJ or iPod? Do you prefer buying CDs or tracks online. Do you like the Zune Pass option? Also make sure to mention what color (Black, Red, or Blue) you would prefer.

I will select a winner on Dec 31st from the entries! Anyone can win.

Well.. this is kind of embarrasing... the last thing used to portably listen to music was my diskman :S I know right.. 25 and never had an mp3 player or anything.. I never had much use for one to be honest, I just listened to my cd's or listened to music right from the PC... but for christmas my boyfriend got me an 8g zune and i can't live without it, although, the batteries seem to keep dying about every hour, I keep using it! Me and my 13 month daughter sit and listen to music and watch her cartoons on it...I neeeed it, can't live without it ..... and its dying :(
Although.. I would much prefer to have the 120gb in blue :) Thanks!

Sorry, forgot to read the question.

Started of with Ipods and then moved over to the zune 30 and have loved it but really need more storage. The zune pass is an ingenious feature. I would really prefer the black zune 120gb..

Thank you very much for the great site and all the latest updates as they happen, I have been regularly checking your site and finding out about all the latest updates about all the gadgets. I love the Zunes and absolutely love the zunes and would amazingly love to receive the 120gb as this has been the model that I have wanted for a very long time!!!
Thank you for the awesome site and the very hard work and great give away!!
  • I started with a little crappy 128 Mb player and then I finally got a ZUNE and it was stolen. SO now I'm listening to my kids 1GB Muvo when I can.

    I like Red.

    My history =

First started with an old iPod Mini, then went up to a iPod video 5.5 gen, which I'm still using. I think its time for something new and I think the Zune pass option is pretty cool, but I wish you could keep the tracks forever. I prefer buying tracks online because I never use CDs anymore and there's really no need for it with FM Transmitters now in the car. I wish the Zune pass option gave you more free songs ever month though. I like the Blue Zune 120, so that's what I would prefer.

My history with music players hasn't been very long, my
first anything that was able to play music was a motorola rokr which I had listened to every chance I got. I have
then switched to a fuji labs mp3 player which has been
pretty decent. I would like a black zune 120.
  • Heatwave316
In my original post I asked for a Blue Zune 120, but I would still be completely overjoyed at a black Zune 120!!!
  • mumbojerry
I have actually never owned any device that I could carry muusic or video on. I have purchased a Sandisk MP3 player for my wife. I have purchased 2 Ipods for my son and 1 for my daughter but nothing for myself.
I would love to have the black one and make my son drool with envy.
    Thanks!

I'm not the type of person who listens music on a player while driving, walking or doing any other things. That's why I don't even own a music player. I like to listen music from my PC when I'm at home. But I occasionally turn to my mobile phone to play back some records or to listen to a radio station. I'd rather buy a regular CD than digital music because I want to have a physical copy of an album too.
If I win, I would really love a black Zune. And for sure I'll start using it to listen to my favorite tunes everywhere I go.
    Thanks!
  • Jared
I've only had 2 mp3 players in my lifetime, both were ipods, and have both broken down...
  • anthony
I started out with a D-Link 32mb MP3 player. The sad thing was that it came with a parallel port cord, instead of USB. My pc didn't have a parallel port, so I had to buy a parallel-to-usb cord. Then moved on to the original ipod, then an ipod mini, now a zune 8gb.
  • Brandon
I started out with my walkman CD player. The next device that I had was the iPod 2gb nano 1st generation. I then lost that device and I haven't gotten a new player since.
  • eric giblock
first mp3 player i had was the Rio (i believe that was the name. i was so happy with 512mb of data storage..

after that i went the cheap route and got a sansa mp3 player. this time i was at 2gb and was great.

this lasted for about 3 years, until i got intrigued with opening a Key Bank Checking Account and geting a 4gb ipod nano for free. i did that and still use it to this day. the checking account was then closed once i got the unit :)

my first mp3 player, well, at least the fist thing I ever played mp3's on was my old 486. I remember downloading "Yesterday" and complaining that a song taking up 3.4 MB was ridiculous since the total size of my HD was 80MB at the time. I recall thinking to myself, their gonna have to make some kind of breakthrough in memory technology to handle mp3 players in the future. I even remember talking amongst my friends and trying to think about the next numeric increment that goes after mega (so funny now that we're entering the age of the Tera')

But as for mobile players, I guess I would have to say the my first "real" mobile player was my trusty old Axim X5 which still sits right next to me on my workstation in full functioning order.

Then came a series of random off brand players which i will list:
    TDK Mojo 128MB
    Wave X 128MB
Sansa E250 (received a defective one and returned it but not replaced)
Sansa C250 (this is my current primary player, limited but trusty)

I am glad to say that that I've successful resisted getting an mypod for all the years that my friends and family have bought into the craze. I would love to get this zune and would be happy with any color if i am so luck to win. 4 gigs of space on my little sansa could only do so much when my collection of mp3 exceeds 20 gigs now.
I still like buying cd's as a whole and immediately converting them to mp3's. I'm not familiar with the zune pass but would be happy to familiarize myself with a new zune at hand.
    thanks

I first started with a Dell DJ 20GB, then an iPod Mini, and then a Meizu M6SL 8GB. I do like the Zune pass option and I hardly ever buy CDs anymore, unless I want to support the artist. I usually buy CDs if its for an underground band that hasn't gotten mainstream yet or isn't doing well in their album sales. Other than that, all my music is downloaded from the internet. I would love to have a Blue Zune to hold all of it. I think iPod sucks and we need something new. I would like to help Microsoft expand their pmp market, but I can't afford one right now, so please I hope I win.

The first MP3 player I bought was a Dell DJ for my wife, I've offered to get her a new one but she won't give it up stills works great. As for me I would sync my podcast and some music to my phone.
Then a few years a go I was the lucky winner of a iPod Nano right here on Mobility Site, I gave that to my daughter which she used until it would no longer hold a charge.
Then came our first Zune my wife gave me a 30 gig in Brown. After seeing it my daughter Mallory went and bought one for herself in Black.
Now Mallory has worn out her Zune it will no longer sync or update so she's using mine and I'm back to using my phone. If I'm lucky enough to win I would give it to her, I know she would be thrilled. I think Blue would be her color of choice.
We prefer buying cds or downloads, monthly fees seem to be adding up too much.

My first MP3 player was a 512mb Creative Muvo clone I got in 2002. I've killed a pair of these by, I believe, using up their write cycles. I can still read the data but cant delete or add new stuff. They were a nice small form factor and took AAA batteries.

Next came an Cowon iAudio G3 1gb. Great little player, easy to use UI without having to take it out of my pocket. The great sound this put out and its replaceable AA battery meant it still saw use even with my next device.

Palm TX. I would probably still be using this now if the digitizer hadn't drifted so badly and it could keep up with the newer GPS software.

With the death of my TX I went for the iPAQ 210. I do not listen to this thing with earphones but it does serve as a decent car media player while also acting as my GPS.

The awful audio of the 210 and the limiting size of the G3 lead me to buy a Sansa Fuze 8gb about a month ago. This has been ok so far. My gripes with it are the long, loooong refresh times any time a song is added or removed, the lack of software integration for podcasts and song ratings, and the lack of a commonly sized replaceable battery though I do understand that you just cant get that anymore.

While I'm not yet a fan of the Zune software the storage size and quality of the players are great.

Here is the list of music players I owned/used:
Sony walkman casette player - 10 years (working even now)
TDK MP3 CD player - 8 years (working even now)
    Creative Zen Jukebox 30GB - 3 years
ViewSonic V36 Pocket PC - 1 years (used it when my Creative Zen broke)
Zune 30GB (1st generation) - gifted it to my Mom
    At&t Tilt - 6 months (Currently using)
    Sansa c250 2GB - 2 months (Currently using)

My first portable media player was an iPod 40GB 4th gen, and I loved it. It was my daily beater for around 3 years until it died. I use a Sansa Clip now, and I loved the sound stage and its portability. I prefer to download music because its easier and I practically no longer use CDs anymore, even in the car. My favorite color is blue, if you're wondering. I've never had a Zune so I'd really like to see what they're like.

    I would <3 a Blue 120GB Zune.
  • My first music player was my iPAQ 3360. I upgraded from that to the 3780 and then the 5555 (Which my wife still uses to play Spider Solitaire on). When I purchased my first TabletPC (Averatec 3500) I moved to a RIO Calibri as I was no longer carrying my PocketPC around since I had the Tablet. I liked the RIO as it had an SD slot so I could carry more music on it and wasn't restricted to a specific size. Since then, I moved on to the Zune 30 when it was first released and loved it. I finally outgrew and passed it along to a friend when the Zune 80 came out. I've subsequently filled that up and have been considering the Zune 120. So seeing this opportunity I thought I would enter on the off chance that I get picked and have room for additional music and podcasts while on the go.

Hi everyone, my first real mp3 player was a 128 mb audiovox mp3 player, really nice, had the usb cabe attached inside, i really liked it, unfortunatly, it broke about a month after, after that, i didnt have one for a while, using my old cd player, then i got the ipod, cost about 300 dlls, used, i loved it, stayed with it then switch to ipod video, then the zune, first day it came out, from target, it was great, and i still have the same white one now, ready for an update, hardware wise, if i do get it, my old one will always be with me, i still love it. i still prefer buying cds, i think they are more convinient overall, and i had the zune pass for a little, its a great idea, only problem is that i dont have steady revenue stream, and if one day i cant pay, i lose everything, so if i could, i would definitly get it.

thanks a lot, i think its great you do this, give someone the oppurtunity to experince zune, and black, thanks a lot!!

My first digital audio player was an RCA LYRA. I loved it. It held maybe 100 songs if I was lucky. I took it everywhere. Music is my life, I am a rising music artist from Salem, OR, and I always love having a song playing in my ear. I eventually upgraded to a Zune 80 last march, and I just experienced a number 5/hard drive crash right before Christmas this year, and now my zune doesn't work. And for Christmas, I received a ton of Zune accessories, like speakers and armbands, and everything you can think of. Truly a bummer...

I personally don't have a preference when it comes to buying mp3's or CD's. When my favorite bands come out with a new record, I will go to the store and buy it, but my family and friends always give me iTunes gift cards, so I will go on iTunes and use those. I think that the Zune Pass option is the coolest thing ever made for music. As long as you are able to fork over $15 a month to keep it going, then I think it's great. I unfortunately am a college student and cannot afford it right now. My broken Zune 80 was black, so if I won a new Zune 120, I would most likely prefer the red one.

My first digital audio player was a Samsung Yepp 8MB... Yea, it only held like 4-5 songs. How times have changed. I think I then got the second generation iPod. I have since used a zune 8 and another newer generation iPod. I do still import my old cd's but I now buy tracks online. I think itunes has a great setup and is very easy to use. I'm still trying to get used to the Zune's setup. I personally feel it needs a little work. The Zune Pass will be an awesome feature. Recently I have discovered Amazon MP3. They are all DRM free. The DRM really irks me. I still burn cd's to throw in the car every now and then so I'm a little hesitant with the Zune Pass. Would Love to have a BLUE Zune 120

    Thanks Chris

I have always been preferential toward possessing physical CDs, due to both owning them long before digital downloads became an option and the feeling of secure ownership. There is no need to worry about hard drive crashes, licensing servers going down, DRM restrictions in copying music to portable devices, etc. You always have a working copy, provided you take care of the CDs, clear evidence that it is not pirated music, and can do whatever you wish with them, short of distributing copies.

Digital subscriptions is the way I have gone more recently, though, due to simple economics: It is cheaper to 'rent' 20,000+ songs for the years I may listen to them, and have access to the latest releases at no additional charge, than it is to purchase each respective CD. I still prefer the physical media, but sometimes cost is the deciding factor.

    Hello,

Well My Dad is "Old School" He I still use's a SonyWalkman on bike rides! I have a Zune and have tried to convince him to cross over. The sound quality is great he admits. I said I would help him "Cross Over" Gently lol!

This would be a great gift to help him crossover.
    Thanks for the ear.

For several years, I've used my WM phones as music/podcast player. By far I listen to more podcasts than music.
Received a 512MB shuffle a few years ago as a giveaway - couldn't get used to carrying 2 devices and not having the ability to select music/podcast to listen to didn't really work out.
Got my son a Zune this year for Christmas. I really don't like the DRM of iTunes so I wanted to stay away from Apple. My music is either from CD or an occasional song from Amazon.

Thanks for your generous contest - Blue would be cool!

A historical dissertation on my music player history would be incomplete without the mention of the Sony walkman.. the original walkman which played cassettes. Quite a rage at that time, it was fun to strap it on your waist and swing to the music while going on about your daily chores. The digital age got me hooked to discmans and subsequently on those non-descript mp3 players that doubled up as USB drives. Around the same time, what started as a small wave eventually became a surge as mobile phones with mp3 capability hit the stores. Jumping on the bandwagon, I got myself the sony-ericcson k700i, with 64 MB capacity. A multitude of mobile phones later, I ventured out of the mp3-mobile phone zone and got myself the zune 30GB Brown around Thanksgiving 2007. Seemingly a safe bet at $100 for a 30GB capacity, the player turned out to be pretty good. I still have the Brown Zune-30GB, which i use for travelling, while the iriver clix suits my needs for a workout.
The zune pass option was pretty good, but i generally shop around at a multitude of stores for music. An occassional visit to the local music store gets me buying a cd or two, which is food for my music system and also fills up my music shelf.
If picked, i would prefer the Red Zune. Black and Blue are passe.
  • I started out with the Creative Nomad Zen Xtra 30 GB. It still works even today. I prefer CDs!
