Dis-N-Gage

Posted by Zealot on Nov 01, 2009 | Comments

It was only a matter of time. We all knew it had been ailing for sometime and was unable to compete with sexy new rivals, it was barely hanging on. Finally, they just had to pull out the plug…or in this case, the MMC card. Nokia’s mobile gaming device and platform, N-Gage, is shutting down at the end of 2010. The N-Gage application will no longer...

What is a Camera Phone? I think I know now…

Posted by Chris Leckness on Sep 28, 2009 | Comments

I have always been a proponent to the “camera phone” since I just can’t see capturing memories with a crappy 1.2 megapixel camera. On the other hand, the phone is normally the added feature for me. I buy a PDA with a phone added into it. That’s what the Windows Mobile smartphones are in essence. It wasn’t until the Nokia N95 came out with...

iWindows95

Posted by Sam Hobson on Jul 14, 2009 | Comments

So I’m here reading Engadget past midnight and I came across this: That’s Windows 95 running on an iPhone.  Both the emulator and an actual iPhone.  I don’t know why, but that just seems really cool to me.  It’s running a once mainstream OS on mobile hardware.  I hear an XP version is next on the list.  That would be something to try,...

Posted by Chris Leckness on May 07, 2009 | Comments

Here is a free application that connects mobile phones to broadband via wi-fi. WeROK contains free mobile TV and free mobile email too. Looks pretty damn cool. WeROK’s Internet connection is powered by WeFi, the community-driven global Wi-Fi network. With WeFi on your phone, you will be automatically connected to the best Wi-Fi spot whenever...

Smarter to be Lucky?

Posted by Zealot on Jan 13, 2009 | Comments

Krusell, one of my favorite producers of quality cases for mobile devices (I swear by their iPod Touch case), just released their list of 10 top selling phone cases for 2008. They release a similar list every year which are usually a good barometer not only for which phones are selling well, but which ones are being heavily used in the field. As the...

What Mobile Phones are Hot Right Now?

Posted by Chris Leckness on Oct 01, 2008 | Comments

Well, we know that AT&T has a few phones up there sleeve, or at least the rumor mill says so. Then you have T-Mobile and their G1. You’ve got all the HOT HTC Touch phones coming down the line. The Blackberry Bold… The list goes on. Krusell, a Swedish Case Maker, posts a list each month of what the hottest phones are based on actual...

Evolution and Life

Posted by Zealot on Aug 30, 2008 | Comments

My fellow writer here at MobilitySite, Steve Laser, recently posted an excellent and well thought out piece detailing his frustration with the Windows Mobile platform and mobile devices in general. The essence of what he felt was missing over the last several years was a “leap frogging” or radical change in the technology. His feeling was that...

Trip down Nokia lane

Posted by Tyler on Jul 31, 2008 | Comments

Don’t get me wrong, I happen to be a big fan of Nokia smartphones, this article is not meant to bash Nokia smartphones in the slightest. I took a short trip down Nokia lane a couple days ago in pondering purchasing an N95.  As some of you already know, I already have an AT&T Tilt (HTC TyTN II) which is a very powerful device that I’m...

Samsung Innov8. A True Multitasking Phone?

Posted by Chris Leckness on Jul 28, 2008 | Comments

When I say multitasking, I am not talking about software app multitasking, I am talking about functions of a phone. Let’s take a look at the recently announced Samsung i8510. I don’t know much about it, but it seems to do a bit of everything. Most phones that have cameras do good at either the phone part or the camera part. Rarely does...

Do I need a new Phone?

Posted by Chris Leckness on Jun 20, 2008 | Comments

Of course not, most of us don’t. What makes us have this urge to update every time something new comes out? I haven’t a clue, but I suffer from this as well. The funny thing is that often times I come back to the same devices. A couple years ago, I used the i-mate Kjam as my primary phone. I’d buy another or test one for a review...

Clever content about the N95

Posted by Jay Donovan on Jun 17, 2008 | Comments

This is not really a post about the device specifics of the N95 but rather a look at  how some clever content about the device could raise awareness of the product. opentoanything.com employed some clever video advertisements to highlight the openness of the s60 development platform for the N95 and other Nokia phones. While none of the characters...

Gallery Fixed – Enter the Contest Now!

Posted by Chris Leckness on Jun 05, 2008 | Comments

It seems that some of the most important readers were left in the cold on this. The permissions of the gallery had left the “contributing members” of the site out. All members are important, but these guys are in their own separate user group on the site and they had the same permissions that a guest of the gallery have. This is now fixed...

Contest Reminders and Demographics

Posted by Chris Leckness on Jun 04, 2008 | Comments

I lied, I thought I was going to bed, but I didn’t. I’ve gotten more than 1,000 emails after spam filter tonight once the server started acting right. I have filtered through them and put most on hold, but the one reporting the results of our little demographics survey caught my attention. It also reminded me to remind you all about the...

Contest – Win a Nokia N95 from Mobilitysite!

Posted by Chris Leckness on May 29, 2008 | Comments

Ok, back in October, I attended a press event for Sandisk’s launch of the 8GB MicroSD card. This was a killer event in Hollywood where Sandisk secured the 3 hottest night clubs in LA for their private venue. The clubs were The Roxy, The Viper Room, and the Key Club. Anyhow, some of the bands that played were Linkin Park and the Crystal Method....
