Toshiba microSDHC up to 16gig

toshibasdcards It looks like Toshiba wants to stay right on that cutting edge for these tiny wonders.  Sometime early next year you will be able to get 16gig SDHC and microSDHC cards for your toys.

Sandisk may have a 16GB microSDHC card already a little sneakily on the scene, but now Toshiba’s announced it’s joining the game with one of its own. The card is compliant with SD memory standard version 2.00, as are the other two cards Tosh is making: The 8GB and 16GB SDHC cards with a maximum write speed of a speedy 20MB/s. All of these tiny memory units are due for production and sale over the next two to three months, so you’ll be slipping them into your cellphones and cameras from early ‘09

It always amazes me how quickly the capacity of microSD cards increase.  They are so freakin’ tiny!  I’m not about to show my age and tell you how tiny the memory was on my first laptop, so just drop that one right now!The other nice thing about these high capacity cards; current "big" cards go down in price!  ;)

btw, I’m the new guy around here.  Been a friend of Chris’ for a while now and when he asked me to join the team I was quite pleased.  Thanks Chris!

The Skooba Satchel laptop bag

The Skooba Satchel laptop bag has been selected as the official bag to be given to bloggers attending the first-ever CNTRSTG event during CES. Skooba is proud to support the inaugural gathering and hopes the lucky recipients enjoy the event as well as the bags!

  skooba

The Skooba Satchel is like no other laptop bag you’ve ever seen. Its patent-pending Air Square protection system cushions your laptop with hundreds of shock-absorbing, air-filled pouches and although deceptively slim-looking, still holds most 17″ screen laptops, with over a dozen pockets to hold everything from your PDA to your Perrier; files and accessories. Here’s the kicker… this bag, with all its bells and whistles, weighs a scant 44 ounces.

Take a look at the satchel here: www.skoobadesign.com/product/skooba-satchel-28/

Powermat - Wire-free power to electronic devices

pm Alternative ways to supply power for devices is always something I am looking at.  My friend, Saar Avigour from Pocket PC Freak had a piece up on his site that really intrigued me.  Although I was unable to read the text (non-English), the pictures were enough to peak my interest.  His article deals with a technology that brings wireless electricity to surfaces for easy charging of your devices WITHOUT wires.

It is designed to replace the need to access multiple electrical sockets with the flexibility and freedom of wireless power for real-time powering and charging of electronic devices of almost any kind in almost any environment. Powermat technology revolutionizes the way energy is consumed in the every day course of interaction with our environment.

Powermat offers the only scalable solution to transform large work surfaces and wall areas into safe and efficient conductors of electricity and is easily integrated into building construction and furniture design.

Check out the Powermat solution here and make sure you click the link above to see some additional photos.

New Solar charger

I’m always looking for alternative ways to charge my devices and saw this one today over at  Akihabara News that caught my eye but of course the big question is, will we see it here in the US?  This solar charger offers you the ability to provide power for your PSP/iPod/Nintendo DS or mobile phone. The iCharge delivers an output of DC5.0-5.5V/600mA, and comes with a battery of 1,350mAh.

icharge

It takes around 3.5 hours to charge via an AC Adaptor, 5Hours via USB, and 15Hours via Solar panel.

Celio’s REDFLY Smartphone Terminal Continues to Enhance and Expand the Smartphone Industry with Two New Models; Additional Functionality

Redfly in action– Smartphone terminal design enhanced with affordable, light-weight, power-saving features and a new media port for video input –

Wouldn’t you know it, one of my favorite gadgets now has added functionality!  Ever since I received my unit, I’ve been using the Redfly just a bit more than my Aspire One - heck I prefer to use it more than full-fledged Outlook at times!  And we all know Jack, our Senior Editor had positive reviews for it early on as well.  Now the latest version, the C8N boasts an additional media port to make it available for use with the Zune (ya’ hear that Chris?), the iPod, and digital cameras (the latter being a “- but honey…” factor no doubt) for $299.  In addition to the lineup, a revamped smaller version, the C7 (with a smaller screen and battery), is also available for $229, just in time for the holidays.

Were any of you readers out there able to take advantage of the $199 deal for the previous C8 model?  If so I’d like to hear from you on how you use it. You can check out Matt Miller’s Impressions here as well.

Review: ProClip has the solution!

Having the right mounting solution for my device has always been an issue. Some solutions are too big; others are too cheaply made and most are just “universal” mounts that fit a variety of devices. They are OK, in fact I got one years ago that was adjustable and has served me well but the biggest issue I had was that it was mounted from my windshield.

Why was that an issue? It always created a little restriction in my line of site and over time, the suction cup would eventually lose its grip and the device would fall and usually that would happen as I was driving down the highway. So it was time to look for an alternative.

This summer I had a friend visit me in Maine and he had the ProClip solution in his car; using a mount for his dedicated GPS and one for his HTC Tilt. I was impressed! It was well made, sturdy and just looked great; so I decided to check out the available options for the devices I use every day.

The Keyboard Challenge

What good is a portable device if you have no effective means of inputting data?  Manufacturers have come up with creative ideas for interacting with our devices.  I’ve divided them up into three basic categories.  The first, pictured below left, is the candybar keyboard as illustrated by the Blackberry Curve.  Our next challenger is the two-handed keyboard shown on the Sprint PPC6700.  Finally, the iPhone uses a software keyboard.

The challenge:  Which category provides the most effective means of interacting with your device?

IOGEAR 3-Port USB 2.0 Mobile Hub with mini-USB

Here is a neat little addition to your mobile warrior kit.   IOGEAR announced the release of its 3-port USB 2.0 Mobile Hub, which combines 3 “extra” USB ports and a mini USB cord that you can use for syncing or charging your device.  It definitely looks great and will give you some extra added capabilities in a neat package.

IOG

Priced at just under $13, the three USB ports have extra spacing to allow the use of “larger USB cables”.  The transfer rate is rated at speeds of up to 480Mbps. If your device requires no more than 350mAh and 5V of power, then this might well be something you should consider.

After opening and seeing the  NEW Scott Jordan Signature System, it is possibly the best jacket that SCOTTEVEST has produced.
