O2 Xda diamond - A Quick Look

Arne Hess from the::unwired got a hold of a pre-production unit and has some pictures and brief thoughts that you might like.  In part, Arne said:

Like HTC’s version, also O2’s smartphone features a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera without flash on the back and in the upper right corner on the front a VGA video telephony camera which can be used for self-portraits as well. Unfortunately there’s no hardware shutter button for the camera anymore which means you either have to start the camera from the Start menu or from HTC’s TouchFLO 3D Today screen UI.

O2 Gets the Palm Treo 500

UK O2 users can now get their hands on the Palm Treo 500. This is such a beautiful looking device. I can’t wait for the “rumored” Treo 800w to hit the US.

O2 Stellar, TyTN 2 with a Radio?

comingsoon_ph_promo_4Jason Langridge posted about the O2 Stellar showing up on the O2 Coming soon page.

The new O2 Xda Stellar is a touch screen Xda with a slim, stylish design. As well as the on-board GPS, Windows Mobile 6 (supporting Microsoft Direct Push Email) and Wi-Fi, it is Quad Band, 3G and has a 3 mega-pixel camera, MP3 player and radio.

A radio. What else can you cram into this form factor? Let’s start with more memory, I know it has a lot already, but more is good. Then let’s throw a VGA Screen on there. Let’s make it perfect!

Bad night for Apple in the UK

Mowbli_Jumping_small

With iPhone sales slowing in the US, tonight was going to herald glorious sales in the UK, as the iPhone was launched by O2 and the Carphone warehouse (on O2).

Except it went badly

The planned queues of people never happened. And it didn’t get any better. After just one hour of sales the number of staff in the two branches of Carphone warehouse in Liverpool was more than the number of customers there. And they were customers who were looking rather than buying. The cash register was very quiet.

One poor sole was dressed up as Mowbli (right) in an attempt to attract peoples attention, while others tried to drag anyone into the store to just look at the iPhones. Huge stacks of leaflets went unused.

A CPW staff member later said that their target for the night had been halved to 36 at the last minute, although he didn’t think it had been reached. ‘I really hope tomorrow is better, it has to be’ he said.

The O2 store in Liverpool city center looked a bit better, with the number of people in it looking like an average Wednesday afternoon. But again not many people seemed to be leaving the store with carrier bags.

If this is reflected around the country then both Apple and O2 are in serious trouble… and may have  to change the whole iPhone business model

Apple Chooses O2 as Exclusive Carrier for iPhone in UK

image Apple and O2 announced today that O2 will be the exclusive UK carrier for Apple’s iPhone when it makes its debut in the UK on November 9.

iPhone users in the UK will be able to activate their new iPhones using iTunes software running on a PC or Mac computer in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated.  Activating iPhone takes only minutes as iTunes guides the user through simple steps to choose their tariff, undertake a credit check and activate their iPhone. Once iPhone is activated, users can then easily sync all of their phone numbers and other contact information, calendars, email accounts, web browser bookmarks, music, photos, podcasts and TV shows just like they do when they sync their iPods with iTunes.

iPhone is scheduled to go on sale on November 9 and will be sold exclusively in the UK through Apple’s retail and online stores, O2 and The Carphone Warehouse’s retail and online stores. iPhone will be available in an 8GB model for 269 (inc VAT) and will work with either a PC or Mac. Three new great value iPhone tariffs will be available from O2 starting at 35, which all include unlimited anytime, anywhere mobile data usage and, in a market first, free unlimited use of the UK’s largest single public Wi-Fi network, covering over 7,500 cafes, restaurants, airport lounges, pubs and other locations across the UK.

iPhone activation will require an Internet connection; an iTunes Store account or a major credit card; the latest version of iTunes available at www.itunes.com and a PC or Mac with a USB 2.0 port and one of the following operating systems: Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later; Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later; or Windows Vista Home Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate Edition. iPhone requires a new 18-month contract with O2. Existing O2 customers will have the option of keeping their existing phone number and upgrading their account to work with iPhone while new customers can also simply and easily transfer their current mobile number to O2.

O2 Cocoon Reviewed by Fosfor Gadgets

A couple weeks ago, I shared a link to Fosfor Gadgets to show you their unboxing of the O2 cocoon. Now, I am here to share a link to their review of this interesting phone. Weird Looking, but interesting.

070731_2i

“The O2 Cocoon is a nice phone, but most of all it’s a cool phone. Sound quality is perfect, both during calls and while listening to music. The camera is OK, it’s nowhere near the SonyEricssons 3.2 megapixel camera phones, but it give you nice video and good 2 megapixel photos. If it wasn’t for the scrolling LED display this phone wouldn’t get that much attention - but it’s a killer with it. And the combined dock, charger alarm clock is nothing but awesome! 7 out of 10.
