T-Mobile Shadow II Coming Q4, Made by HTC

According to Digitimes, HTC will be making the successor to the T-Mobile Shadow…

High Tech Computer (HTC) will be the contractor for T-Mobile USA’s forthcoming UMA (unlicensed mobile access)-enabled smartphone, the Shadow II, making the Taiwan-based handset maker a new supplier of UMA handsets for the US wireless service provider in addition to Nokia, Samsung Electronics and RIM (Research in Motion), according to market sources.

1st off, it’s great to see that T-Mobile is going to furthur the life of the Shadow with a 2nd go around. The Shadow is a nice phone.

Now you are probably wondering what the hell UMA is huh? Sure you are…

I Guess the T-Mobile Shadow II is Real

If the FCC filing last week isn’t enough to convince you, this ebay auction is sure to. The sad thing is that I missed this, now closed auction, I would have loved bidding on this one since it went so cheap.

Well, judging by the looks of the HTC CONV100, we thinks this little gem is most likely the T-Mobile Shadow II that was leaked not too long ago (pictured on the left). The HTC Juno ended up being the T-Mobile Shadow,so it makes sense for HTC to do it up again with a T-Mobile Shadow successor.

T-Mobile is "family friendly"

tm

It looks like T-Mobile is becoming a “family friendly” operator by offering families the ability to add additional lines for $50 per month.  The plan allows for two lines of service with unlimited calling as well as text, picture and video messaging for $150 per month. Additional lines with the same features cost $50 per line for up to three additional lines. A single line with the unlimited features remains priced at $100 per month.

Other providers have plans but not like the T-Mobile plan.  It might well be worth checking out if your total family bill is getting out of site.  It sort of looks like they are trying to keep that motto of “stick together” tied closely to the family …. I like that.

T-Mobile’s MDA Compact IV Press Release

Today what appeared to be a huge leak ended up being a scheduled, but real quiet, announcement of the T-Mobile MDA Compact IV. GSM Help Desk posted a photo of what looks like the HTC Touch Diamond, but what we see is the HTC Rapheal, AKA The t-mobile MDA Compact IV. It has WiFi, Bluetooth, Tri-Band GSM with HSDPA, GPS, 460×640 screen, 3.2 MP camera, 528 mhz processor, and all the other things you want.

T-Mobile Replacing Batteries for Wing

It appears that T-mobile is replacing batteries for the T-mobile Wing.  Deiter, from WM Experts got one of these replacements last week while he was at CTIA. I think this shows great commitment to quality. Sure, there shouldn’t be any issues to start with, but fixing them so easily is quite commendable.  I don’t know who to cheer, T-mobile or HTC.

Golly, whilst away at CTIA, we received a package we weren’t expecting. Inside, a brand new battery manufactured by Celxpert to replace our stock Dynapack battery. Also inside, an explanation:

T-Mobile and HTC are providing a replacement for the T-Mobile Wing battery made by Dynapack at not charge to you due to rare occurrences of the battery overheating.

Can you copyright a color? "T-Mobile Magenta"?

In the midst of the April Fool fun, the fast and furious announcements from CTIA, the re-awarding of Jack Cook and I as Microsoft MVP (something is different about this though, check this thread later for an explanation), and the Windows Mobile 6.1 excitement… You might have missed something kind of interesting. Engadget Mobile has been showing Magenta all day… Why? Check the logo below and it will give you a 1st hint…

engadget-mobile

Notice the pink (magenta) background? Now look at the logo. :)

So last week Deutsche Telekom, owners of the global T-Mobile brand, sent Engadget a late birthday present: a hand-delivered letter direct from their German legal department requesting the prompt discontinuation of the use of the color magenta on Engadget Mobile. Yep, seriously.

This post over at Engadget Mobile yesterday explains it all, but apparently T-Mobile isn’t too happy with Engadget’s use of the color magenta in their logo. Like someone is going to confuse Engadget Mobile with T-Mobile… Give me a break. Too funny.

I didn’t have time to wash Mobilitysite in Magenta in support of Engadget, but maybe the post will suffice letting everyone know about this silly take down request.

HP iPAQ 510 Voice Messenger SmartPhone Review

iPaq 510 b

For years I’ve been searching for the ideal converged handheld device.  While the commercial offerings keep getting better and satisfying more of my wants, I’ve learned that my wants keep changing.  Hence, the search is never ending.

As I’ve previously written, I’ve been having an annoying and impossible to resolve problem with my T-Mobile Dash–constant rebooting.  Recently, after returning  to the US from an international trip, I was unable to turn on the phone at all.  I was therefore unable to call and and make contact with the driver for my pre-arranged ride home.  Having a “geek” reputation and trying to explain why my phone didn’t work was nothing short of embarrassing!

I needed to do something.  When I got a little less emotional I concluded that it was time for a new phone.

The device has a 3-megapixel camera with autofocus, 4GB of internal memory and a 640 x 480 touchscreen together with 3D graphics.

T-Mobile Testing Unlimited Home Phoning for $10

image The Talk Forever Home Phone plan from T-Mobile lets regular home phones use the Internet in a test in Dallas and Seattle. At $10 a month, T-Mobile’s Talk Forever plan challenges both traditional wired-service providers and VOIP service. While T-Mobile’s Talk Forever plan appears similar to VOIP, it actually goes through a T-Mobile gateway.

T-Mobile wants you to talk forever. The wireless provider is testing its Talk Forever Home Phone plan in two cities, Seattle and Dallas. The plan allows unlimited U.S. calling for $10 a month.

The home user needs four components: an existing high-speed Internet connection, a T-Mobile Wireless Router with Home Phone Connection, a qualifying T-Mobile wireless plan with the Talk Forever plan, and a compatible home phone. The router plugs into the user’s broadband connection, and then any regular phone can be plugged into the router.

MWC: the unwired looks at Opera 9.5 and Sony Ericsson EXPERIA X1

image The unwired.net has posted a couple of videos of items at Mobile World Congress 2008.

the unwired: Hands on video with T-Mobile Ameo 16 Gb and Opera Mobile 9.5

Another highlight, in terms of software, of the recently announced T-Mobile Ameo 16 GB/HTC Advantage 16 GB is the fact that the device incorporates Opera Software’s recently announced Opera Mobile 9.5. As Opera software mentioned in the previous meeting, the manufactures and carriers are the first customers to get Opera Mobile 9.5 and as John Wang, HTC Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), told us, this Opera Mobile 9.5 version isn’t just the one which will be released later for consumers as well but HTC worked with Opera to adopt it to the HTC TOuchFLO interface of the HTC Advantage/T-Mobile Ameo:

Opera Mobile 9.5 is super fast and takes all the advantage of a VGA device.

the unwired: Hands on video with Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 Windows Mobile Smartphone

Sony Ericsson added their own user interface on top of Microsoft’s original Windows Mobile user interface, quite similar what HTC does with TouchFLO.
This means that the user interface is present on the first level only and after all applications are based on Windows Mobile, as you might expect it anyway:

You will noticed in the video, that the device seems to be somewhat slow - sometimes. Sony Ericsson promised that this will be fixed with the release device, especially because the 520 MHz Qualcomm CPU should be powerful enough and Sony Ericsson also told me they will take benefit from the graphics hardware acceleration as available for Qualcomm chips.

Motorola ROKR E8 coming to T-Mobile!

WOW!  This is one nice looking device with a huge amount of internal memory, quadband GSM / EDGE, and according to Engadget Mobile, no 3G

Evidently they found some shots of the ROKR E8 with T-Mobile’s mark across the back. They also indicated that the spec sheet really isn’t much different from the carrier’s 2GB RAZR 2 V8, but who cares … it is very hot!!
