Dell Inspiron 910 Mini Note, available this Friday?
I know that many of you are waiting to see what is going to happen with this UMPC. And the main reason is because Dell is well known for having very low prices in devices with very good potential sells.
Now we’ve gotten our hands on the full (internal) 910 web documentation. Along with scoping shots from every angle, we’ve learned that the 910 will support SSDs up to 16GB and has what looks to be very moddable internals (large Phillips-head screws hold that SSD in place). The system will go on sale in just a few days, August 22nd our source says, but we still don’t know whether or not that $299 starting price is just a myth.

1 million UMPC from Dell may be coming soon
A little note published today at Blocks and Files says that Dell is about to release 1 million UMPC to the market.
According to a source Dell has a soon-to-be launched ultra-mobile notebook computer which will use STEC solid state drives (SSD)
The news is talking about the Dell E Netbook, a device that was not released this week like many tech specialist were expecting - including me.
Dell DJ Redux?
Posted by Radimus on 07/30/08 in Dell, Music Players, Previews
Dell is looking to revamp its consumer electronics unit again by delving back into the PMP arena again with a new MP3 player and web portal

The company currently sells several MP3 players on its site, including Microsoft’s Zune, but chose not to ally with Microsoft when building its new device. According to the Wall Street Journal, which broke the news, Dell will offer a tighter, seamless experience between PC, music player, and music store. The player itself will be cheaper than Dell’s previous line of Dell DJ products, will offer WiFi on at least some models, and should come in under the $100 price point.
Also new this time around is Zing, a startup company Dell bought back in 2007. Zing will serve as a comprehensive portal for a variety of Dell entertainment devices and services that will eventually encompass both consumer PCs and consumer electronics.
MP3 players may be old business for Dell, but the company has never tried to launch its own media hub or an all-in-one media service. Historically, these types of business initiatives have not fared well; Gateway’s attempt to reinvent itself as a consumer electronics company failed miserably, and Microsoft hasn’t been able to put much of a dent in Apple’s market share, despite the company’s best efforts (though it is beating out other competitors like Creative).

Dell E Gets a Date in Time for School
News of Dell’s long awaited entry into the UMPCaloosa has been swirling for some time, with information about all the various configurations of the 8.9 inch Dell E and the 12.1 Dell E Slim being leaked pretty regularly over the last few weeks. In addition, we have known for a month or so that the Dell Es will start at the very attractive price of $299 and the following features (more or less):
- Linux (distro unknown)
- Intel’s 1.6GHz Atom processor
- 1,024 x 600 display
- 3x USB ports
- SSD (sizes unknown)
- Integrated webcam
- WiFi
- 2.2 lbs
Now we also have more confirmation of the rumored roadmap, as Digitimes is quoting channel sources that the first shipments will happen in August, and that Dell has it’s ducks in a row to ship 2-3 million of the little beauties before the end of the year. That works out to Dell estimating a 6-9 million yearly output. Hubris or realistic?
UMPC vendor blood will soak the back to school sales this year. By Christmas, I have a feeling Dell will be the new brand to beat in the UMPC/Netbook market.

Dell E netbook. Images, specs, pricing revealed
Americans love to read newspapers in the morning while having breakfast. I do read RSS news! And Today I found this news at UMPCPortal, one of the best sources of news about UMPCs owned by my colleague Chippy: The Dell E netbook specs and pricing!
This will certainly compete well with the HP, Acer, ASUS, MSI and ECS and if battery life and mobility is your concern, it looks like one of the better choices.
Is the time to sell your Axim at eBay and get one of these Chris? Let see if we can get one of these to review… and talk about it here.
New pictures of the Dell Small Factor PC
Posted by ctitanic on 05/30/08 in Dell, Subnotebooks, Ultra Mobiles
BetaNews has published two more pictures of the new Dell Subnotebook. Unfortunately so far there are not news about the specifications of this machine. Would this one use the new Nano from VIA? Will Dell go with Intel? Who knows…
It’s cute, it’s red, it has a Dell logo, and for many, it’s enough. The buzz machine has been reignited, after Michael Dell gave a prominent Gizmodo writer another peek at something small it’s been cooking up in its laboratories.
Dell Mini Inspiron, First Mini Laptop
Dell did not jump into Microsoft Origami party but almost two years later it’s preparing a small factor PC. A device to fight back the popularity of the Asus Eee and the HP MiniNote.
It’s a small form factor notebook, just like the Asus Eee and the HP 2133.

Dell and Android… I don’t care, do you?
Posted by Chris Leckness on 01/31/08 in Dell, Google
I might later, but for now, my mouth has a bad taste in it from Dell’s business ways. You see, I have been a customer and supporter of Dell for quite a while. Just like with Geico (been with them since 1991), I have been using them since before they were even cool. Dell becomes successful in the Pocket PC Market, they quit. Dell started seeing success in their 2nd gen Dell DJ MP3 players, they quit. Dell comes with a Tablet PC 2 years too late, it’s overpriced. I just have no enthusiasm about Dell anymore.
Now the rumormill is buzzing that Dell and Google will be announcing that Dell is going produce one of these “gPhones”.
Speculation is mounting that Google is plotting the launch of a mobile phone in partnership with computer giant Dell.
Senior industry sources claim the two companies will reveal their plans at next months 3GSM telecoms conference in Barcelona, al-though Google insiders deny an announcement is due in the near future.
But the rumours will once again throw the spotlight on Google’s mobile strategy, which has been the subject of much conjecture over the last year.
What ever happened to the simple Windows Mobile Smartphone that Dell was rumored to be working on last year? You see what I am talking about. Nothing but disappointments from Dell in the last couple years.
Oh by the way… Not sure how much stock I am taking in all this considering this comment…
Dell already produces personal digital assistants (PDAs) and strategy analytics director Neil Mawston says: It makes sense for Dell to have a high-profile entry back into the market because its last effort with PDAs pretty much flopped.
Dell’s PDAs pretty much flopped? What the hell is this guy smoking? Sure, they quit, but they surely didn’t flop. Oh well.

Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC first pictures
Linda Epstein as posted at TabletPC2.com the first pictures of the new Dell’s Tablet PC, the first Tablet PC coming from Dell, the Latitude XT Tablet PC. First of all, I’m glad to see that Dells after 5 years has knowledge the existence of Tablet PCs. I’m glad to see another company joining the competition though to be honest, Dell’s Tablet PC lacks of innovation and it has a very poor design. It’s like Dell thought that it was a good idea to put all the known features of all the existent Tablet PCs in one package and as result we have a ugly, bulky convertible Tablet PC. Did I also say expensive? Oh yeah, after adding all the available and possible features then you have a Tablet PC with a price tag of 2499 dollars. And according to them, it’s targeting at education. Well, I don’t know, as IT Manager taking decisions of what to buy, this price tag for that kind of Tablet PC is out of my mind so if the Education Field can pay that money I will have to go back to college because probably students are making more money than me.
Yes, Dell has entered the Tablet PC market to show us nothing new. Yes, Dell has entered the market with a Tablet PC that will have big problems finding that market. Yes Dell, we need more Tablet PCs, but we need them to be affordable ($1500>), innovative, with a good exterior design and weighing less than 3 pounds.
Now that I said all this, let me end with a Welcome aboard Dell!
Dell Adds New Touch to Tablet PCs
Posted by gasusan2005 on 12/11/07 in Dell, Tablet PC
Dell Latitude XT System is the Only Sub-Four-Pound 12.1-Inch Convertible Tablet With Ground-Breaking Capacitive Touch Technology
Dell is setting new benchmarks for tablet PCs with the addition of the Latitude XT, the thinnest and one of the lightest 12.1-inch convertible tablets available. It is also the brightest in its category with an optional daylight viewing panel. The system starts at $2,499 and Dell will begin to take orders and ship the Latitude XT by the end of the year.
The Latitude XT is also the industry’s only sub-four-pound convertible tablet with pen and capacitive touch capability. Capacitive technology senses the touch of a finger with no pressure required for the system to recognize input. It is also the forerunner to emerging multi-touch capabilities that allow the use of more than one finger for tasks such as zoom and repositioning a picture, to name a few.
Other touch features available on the Latitude XT include:
- Accuracy and speed - touch response times on the Latitude XT are faster than the Lenovo X61T1
- Advanced digital palm rejection technology, helping prevent inadvertent contact that disrupts pen input
- The digitizer technology on the Latitude XT is rated up to 10 times more durable than competing resistive touch digitizer technology
- Maintenance-free, no-battery pen with eraser and “right” mouse click functionality
