Review: Eten Glofiish X610

GlofiishX610 The Eten Glofiish X610 is an entry-level smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.1 and the SPB menu system installed as default, a GPS receiver built in and a two-megapixel camera. It is a quad band phone with GSM/EDGE support, GPRS/EGPRS Class B, Multi-slot Class 10, using a Samsung SC3 2442 400 Mhz processor with a 2.8 inch QVGA screen. The camera is 2 megapixels with fixed focus CMOS technology. The X610 has WiFi for 11b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 and a built in SirfStarIII GPS receiver. The battery is 1530 mAh. The unit is 107×48x14.7 mm, weighs 136 grams. That works out to 4.2×1.9×0.6 inches and 4.8 ounces. I used it on my AT&T net as a phone, as a PDA and as a camera. Overall, it worked pretty well. It does have a few quirks, but as an entry level device, it’s a good option.

You can see Chris’ unboxing video here. It’s a 15 minute video, so I’ll wait here while you go watch…

OK, welcome back. Chris had some observations and experiences that I can comment on. He pointed to the micro-SD slot on the bottom of the unit and wondered how that would work out. I can report that it worked very well. The slot is deep enough that the card goes in completely so that it is slightly indented from the bottom of the phone. To remove the card you press in and it pops out slightly so that you can get your finger on the little lip. I had it pop out completely once and fly across my desk before I could catch it, but most of the time it just popped out a couple of millimeters. I do have good fingernails, so if you have problems in that area, you can use the stylus to press it in.

E-Ten Glofiish x610 Video 1st Look

This is my video 1st look at the E-Ten Glofiish X610 Pocket PC Phone. This phone is running Windows Mobile 6.1 and has a 400mhz processor and built in GPS.

Hang tight for a couple weeks while Jay Donovan puts this phone through its paces…

E-Ten X610 and V900 Coming Soon

E-Ten is coming to the table with another couple Windows Mobile 6.1 devices.

The Glofiish X610 (below left) seems to be more of an entry level, sleek phone. It will have a 400mhz processor, 128 MB Flash ROM, 64 MB SDRAM, 2.8" Screen, and Windows Mobile 6.1, but the one thing that might hurt this one is the lack of 3G. It is a quad band GSM phone, but it will have only EDGE.

The Glofiish V900 (above right) is packing some power though. It will have a 533mhz Processor, 256 MB Flash ROM, 128 MB SDRAM, HSDPA, 2.8" Screen, and it too has Windows Mobile 6.1 loaded. This quad band phone is styled quite a bit different than the X610 and has an antenna for it’s FM radio. To round out this impressive sounding phone, it also comes with a TV out cable and a 3 Megapixel camera.

E-TEN  has launched four new Pocket PC Phones and earned the prestigious Best Choice of Computex Award for its new Glofiish DX900 – the world’s first dual-SIM & dual standby Windows Mobile handset to support HSDPA and EDGE. The DX900 is a simple solution to an increasingly in-demand requirement for consumers who need access to two mobile communications services, but don’t want to carry around two devices at the same time. The DX900 allows users to have uninterrupted access to two separate phone services, for example one for business and one personal, or one for calls and another for data, in a single device. Frequent business travelers can use local SIM card and home SIM card in the same device.

The Glofiish DX900 features support for both high-speed 3.5G (UMTS/HSDPA) and 2G (GSM/EDGE) communications, as well as GPS and Wi-Fi connectivity, a high-resolution VGA display, and a 3-megapixel auto-focus camera.

The Glofiish V900 marks the premier of mobile digital TV to E-TEN’s Pocket PC lineup, allowing users to keep up-to-date with the latest news, TV shows and sports, even when on the move. The V900 boasts an ultra-sharp VGA display and supports multiple standards including DVB-T/H and T-DMB/DAB meaning the thrill of over-the-air TV can be enjoyed almost anywhere around the world.

For consumers who demand the best mobile experience, the Glofiish X900 delivers blisteringly-fast UMTS/HSDPA connectivity ideal for high-speed web-browsing, video streaming, and VoIP calls, and allows documents, web-pages, pictures and video to be enjoyed on its clear VGA display.

Finally, the Glofiish X610 offers both value and functionally in a sleek handset that’s perfect for GPS navigation and everyday communications.

In addition to industry-leading hardware innovations and the latest Windows Mobile 6.1 platform, all the new handsets feature a new touch interface that revolutionizes the way users interact with their Glofiish phones though gestures, finger-friendly icons and 3D animations.

Acer Gobbles up E-TEN, I think this is good…

I got official word from E-TEN that they were bought out by Acer yesterday.

The board of directors of E-TEN recently voted unanimously to accept a proposed acquisition offer made by Acer. The successful completion of the deal is not expected to impact the management structure of E-TEN, and the company will continue to deliver products and services at a quality its customers have come to expect.

“E-TEN’s proven success in bringing state-of-the-art products and business concepts to the consumer mobility sector, united with the Acer Group’s global infrastructure, will allow us to provide more efficient local support to customers, while at the same time further extending the footprint of Glofiish-brand products.” noted Simon Hwang, CEO, E-TEN.

I have never really been a fan of either company’s mobile device offerings, but I think that combining forces, so good could come of it. The main complaint I’ve had in the past about E-TEN devices are the build quality. When compared to an HTC offering, their past models have just felt chinsy to me.

E-Ten Releases the Glofiish x650

E-TEN Information Systems has announced the Glofiish X650, the company’s latest Pocket PC Phone to offer the benefits of all-in-one connectivity, VGA display, and an ultra-compact form factor.

E-TEN first introduced the option for a VGA display in May 2007 and since then has added several more models to its product lineup aimed at different customer needs. The latest X650 is designed to appeal to those seeking a compact, full-featured device that is also affordable.

X650_down2_P

A VGA display offers several significant benefits to the user. The greater resolution (four times higher than that of a typical Pocket PC Phone) enables a larger proportion of a document, calendar, map, or web page etc. to be displayed on screen at once, increasing productivity. Additionally, the higher pixel density means that text appears sharper and easier to read while pictures and video appear more detailed. VGA is set to become one of the key specifications for Pocket PC Phones in the coming year.

The Glofiish X650 features E-TEN’s all-in-one connectivity solution comprising of worldwide GSM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The device all comes preloaded with E-TENs exclusive software suite including Mobile Shell, Namecard Manager and Backup Utility as well as Microsoft Office Mobile, Windows Live and other utilities.

Specifications of the X650 include a Samsung SC3 processor at 500Mz, 256MB ROM, 2-megapixel auto-focus camera, FM Tuner, and FM Transmitter (subject to region). Dimensions of the handset are an ultra-compact 107 x 58 x 14.7mm with a weight of just 136g.

The Glofiish X650 is offered in two color choices, black and purple.

M800_Front_KB_PR

Is this the “Ultimate Windows Mobile” Phone? This one has everything one could ever ask for in a phone.

Windows Mobile 6 Professional, 500 MHz Processor, 256MB ROM and 64MB RAM, a VGA Screen, Quad Band GSM, HSDPA/UMTS, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, Camera… The list goes on! Oh, don’t forget, a big battery to run all that… 1530mah!

If the build quality has gotten better, I am getting this.

At a launch event held in the UK E-TEN Information Systems has introduced the Glofiish M800, an industry leading Pocket PC Phone that combines the current  most advanced mobile technologies to deliver a premium mobile communications experience. In terms of features, the Glofiish M800 sets a new highest standard which few, if any, currently available handsets from other vendors are able to match.

E-TEN has packed the Glofiish M800 with a comprehensive mix of the current high-end mobile functionality. A sliding QWERTY keyboard design speeds up input for rapid messaging. 3.5G and Wi-Fi connectivity provide fast accesses to email, and online information. The VGA display allows more information to be viewed onscreen at once, while text, images and video are sharper and easier to view, and when traveling on foot or in the car GPS provides access to accurate location information for easy navigation. Furthermore, the M800 is based on the Windows Mobile 6 platform which comes with built-in features including a mobile office suite for productivity, search, and support for push email. While these features are available in other products, the M800 is E-TEN’s first to offer them all in a single versatile device.

E-TEN Glofiish X500+ Reviewed

I had the pleasure of reviewing this incredible PDA, the E-TEN “Glofiish” X500+, which has added features like a 640×480 VGA, GPS via SiRFstar III, and a wonderfully useful application set.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

When I first heard the rumors about the E-TEN “Glofiish” X500+ back in late 2006, I was smitten by the initial specifications!  This device sounded like it could very-well be my “holy grail” PocketPC: a converged device that featured a Cell-phone, Full PDA, Integrated Camera, Integrated GPS, and most of all, a VGA screen, all in one device!  Woo-hoo!

I was overjoyed to confirm later in February 2007 some additional facts, such as:
1.) The X500+ would come with Windows Mobile 6 Professional,
2.) It’s GPS would be SiRFStar III, and support TMC (Traffic Message Channel).
3.) The Camera would be CMOS based (not CCD!), have a 2-MegaPixel capacity, as well as a camera Flash!
4.) The addition of an integrated FM Radio and stereo earbuds that would act as the Radio antenna.
5.) Support for both WiFi “b” and “g”, as well as Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate).

m800_2In the US, we are all excited about the at&t coming of the HTC TyTN II, the at&t Tilt. Well, Pocketinfo.nl has the word on the ETEN Contender, The Glofiish M800.

Some specifications:

  • 500 MHz Samsung processor
  • 256 MB ROM
  • 2 cameras
  • VGA display
  • Windows Mobile 6 Professional (i.e. Windows Mobile 6 for touch-screens)
  • HSDPA / UMTS
  • SiRFstar III GPS chip
  • 1530 mAh battery
  • available since November 2007
  • expected price: 599 to 629 Euro
  • standard 2.5 mm stereo headset connector

Looks like it has everything that the TyTN II has, just a bigger battery and a VGA Screen. ( Hello Axim users that have been waiting for a converged device that isn’t too big with VGA) I haven’t been sold on the build quality of previous ETEN offerings, but always willing to give a company another chance, especially when the specs are so nice!

Looks like this should be released in November 2007.
