Introducing HTC TouchFlo 3D 2.5
Posted by Gil Bouhnick on 06/28/09 in HTC
You have probably already seen the news about the new HTC device called the FireStone.
So apparently this device will come with a new version of TouchFlo 3D, newer than the one installed on Diamond II and Touch Pro II.
There are some improvements, in the main tab, in the calendar tab, widgets capabilities, and a new footprint tab which will now become standard.
There are more details in WMPowerUsers, including a cool video demonstration:
It’s nice, even though I must say the Android version of TouchFlo (the Sense…) looks more impressive…
HTC Sense UI Exclusive to HTC Hero
Posted by Marilyn Torres on 06/28/09 in Google, HTC, Software, T-Mobile
Somehow making this new, sleek UI available to only the HTC Hero seems a little unfair. That would be like the HTC TouchFLO 3D interface being limited only to unlocked HTC handsets and not carrier-branded handsets due to licensing issues. ![]()
That’s right, even though my G1 and the MyTouch/Magic are made and developed by HTC, you’ll find it also says Google on the back. Being a Google-branded product apparently precludes the Magic and G1 from using the Sense UI featured on the Hero.
Of course, there is the argument of how modified the user experience would be if the Sense UI were installed on something like the G1 handset. Still, the decision to upgrade should be left up to the user. It’s safe to say that someone who knows of the Sense UI upgrade would be savvy enough to decide for themselves if their handset could handle the new upgrade, or that same user should be able to just as easily return to their old mobile interface. Either way, it’s safe to say that G1 and HTC Magic Android layman enthusiasts will be left out of the interface upgrade party for now because of a small licensing issue, although like everything else, that could change at a later date.

HTC Hero Announced Today with HTC Sense
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/24/09 in HTC
Remember that invite HTC put out earlier this month that had everyone guessing? Ya, well that day is today and here’s what it was all about, another Android phone with a chin…
The Hero has all the specs you’d expect from a current HTC device. It has a Qualcomm 528 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM, 288 MB ROM, G Sensor, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 1350 maH battery, 5 megapixel camera, a trackball, and MicroSD expansion slot.
HTC Hero - Building on their design forward heritage, the HTC Hero melds a sleek, comfortable form factor with new and innovative features. For example, a 3.2 inch HVGA touchscreen is complemented with an anti-fingerprint coating for improved smudge resistance and longer lasting display. The white HTC Hero comes with an additional Teflon coating providing enhanced durability and comfort, a first in the mobile industry. Other features such as a five mega-pixel autofocus camera and a 3.5mm stereo headset jack make this a powerful and convenient device.
HTC Sense - As the first device to feature HTC Sense, the HTC Hero will introduce a new mobile experience designed to enhance people’s lives. You as the user are encouraged to customize the information and content you want at your fingertips. From there, HTC Sense will integrate these communications in a way that is unexpectedly intuitive. First implemented on the HTC Hero, HTC Sense will be included on a portfolio of products moving forward.
Press Release after the jump…
Another Touch Diamond 2 1st Look and ROM Update
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/17/09 in HTC
You saw my video and you know how I do it, candid and as unscripted as possible, but how do others do it. Some great, some sound like a script, and some are just right. My friend Jason Dunn over at PPCT has his video unboxing and 1st Impressions of the HTC Touch Diamond 2.
In addition, HTC has posted ANOTHER hotfix for the Touch Diamond 2. This is the 2nd hotfix already, I posted the other one just last month. This one is a Hotfix for removing the start recording function during a voice call for HTC Touch Diamond2.
HTC Snap … is it for you?
If you like a smartphone then this might be a device worth considering especially if you want a device that has an impressive super-fast Qualcomm MSM 7225 processor, running at 528 MHz as well as the ability to have fast device navigation and a full QWERTY keyboard.
Remo Knops from MobilityMinded posted a review that is worth looking at if you want to get a good look at what you would get with this device. Remo said that he would describe the HTC Snap as a fast, stable & powerful no-nonsence device, which suits various needs.
For me, having a decent battery (1500 mAh battery) providing you with enough “juice” to run a couple of days and WiFi make this device very intriguing.
Recent AT&T ROM Upgrades
I thought I would just pass this on (again) for those of you that might have missed these announcements. There are two ROM upgrades that AT&T has announced. The HTC FUZE upgrade has been widely reported on a number of sites but in case you somehow missed it, you can get it here. The landing page provides additional detail and instructions.
Simultaneously, LG has officially released the LG Incite ROM upgrade which is now available for download from the LG support site. This has not been widely reported but is a great upgrade for users of this model. So how do you get the upgrade for the incite? Click this link: http://mobilephones.us.lge.com/support.aspx then follow these instructions:
Select AT&T for Carrier, Select Incite for model,
Click LG Incite software update button in far right column
Download to a folder of your choice, run and follow the directions
HTC Touch Pro 2 - Good News AT&T and Tmo Users
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/4/09 in At&t, HTC, T-Mobile
Today brings a little joy for AT&T and T-mobile users. We’ve already heard the rumors and even seens some spy shots of carrier branded versions of the Touch Pro 2. Well, today brings a couple solid bits of info that show without a shadow of a doubt that gears are turning on AT&T and T-Mobile variants. When they’ll be available, I have no idea.
1st off is the AT&T version news. WM Experts posted that the AT&T Touch Pro 2 hit the FCC for approval. We’ve already seen a leaked slide that told us it was happening, but when it hits the FCC for approval, it means the release could be close. WM Experts is speculating on a October 2009 time frame though. Will they call it the Tilt 2? I am guessing yes, but I bet it will be the “HTC Tilt 2″ instead of AT&T Tilt 2.
Next up, leaked documents again. This time from Boy Genius Report. It shows that T-Mobile folks are to get internal training on the HTC Dash 3G (Snap) and Touch Pro 2 on June 16th, 2009.
All this is good news for those that are lusting at the overpriced, unlocked, European versions that some of us have been flaunting around lately. I plan to keep my Touch Pro 2, but I will also buy the AT&T version for the 3G since it’s coming soon to a rural area near me!
HTC Touch Pro 2 Video 1st Look
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/2/09 in HTC, Mobility Site Videos
I have uploaded a 26 minute video of the HTC Touch Pro 2 in action. I must have hit the wrong button when I produced it though, YouTube is not giving me an HQ version choice. Maybe it takes longer to show up than the video itself. Anyhow, It should do anyway, at least I hope it does. Enjoy.
Time to Speculate… What’s next for HTC?
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/2/09 in HTC
Leigh from CoolSmartphone asks, “What’s this then? A big event in London hosted by HTC? Honestly, we have no idea what could or might be announced here but we’ll be there on June 24th to let you know.”
Well, I don’t know either, but we already know about the Touch Pro, The Snap, and the Touch Diamond 2, what else can it be? Shift 2? They wouldn’t hold a London event to unveil a carrier branded version of any of their phones, so what gives?

HTC Touch Pro 2 - Me Too!
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/1/09 in HTC
I just wanted to add some thoughts about the Touch Pro 2. First I want to say that I ordered my own last week and got it in earlier than I expected on Friday. As you can see, I didn’t get around to posting any photos or videos over the weekend. I was super busy this weekend with being on call, my son’s Taekwondo, and other responsibilities. I feel awful that I have this hot phone in hand and haven’t had a chance to share yet. Look for some Touch Pro 2 pr0n tonight or tomorrow morning, but for now, let me share some thoughts.
I am working on my review of the overseas version of the HTC Touch Diamond right now as well and I can say that the Touch Pro 2 and the Diamond 2 are very similar. Here is my video 1st look at the Touch Diamond 2. The software is almost identical, the hardware is obviously a bit different, and the performance is close but the Touch Pro 2 is a little bit slower than the Diamond 2. Since these are European, unlocked modesl, both devices are not capable of 3G usage in the US, but where I live in Alabama, we don’t have 3G yet anyhow. [Read more]
Touch Pro2 - Features with a Great Form Factor
Mark Briggeman from MobilityMinded has put together his thoughts on the new HTC Touch Pro2. This is a device that combines great features of a variety of HTC devices into a very nice form factor. Mark said the HTC Touch Pro2 is responsive and the tilt mechanism is great and of course, the large 3.6″ WVGA screen, an excellent camera and a 1500 mAh battery make it fun to use.
There has been some talk about the new version of TouchFLO 3D and Mark says he really likes it a lot! Overall, this device is a combination of great hardware with stable, fast and easy to use software. One might even say that HTC has brought a killer-device to the market. He expects people will love this new HTC addition simply because the hardware and software are so well balanced and there are a ton of very cool features.
HTC Hero with Android
Google has announced that by the end of 2009 we are going to see 19 devices with Android. The HTC Hero is one of Them.
The golden days of Windows mobile are gone and the iPhone kingdom is about to end.
HTC Touch Pro 2 Surprise Mini Unboxing
Posted by Chris Leckness on 05/29/09 in Featured Posts, HTC
I was caught off guard today. The DHL tracking showed that the Touch Pro 2 that I ordered from Clove Technology just arrived in the US early this morning. I totally expected it to arrive Monday. Well, surprise SURPRISE, it showed up a few minutes ago. I don’t have access to my camera or video cam right now, so I snapped some unboxing pics with the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Not bad pics either!
More photos of this hood top, mini unboxing after the break…
Expect more soon! I will see what I can do this weekend. Sim card is in and it’s charging up right now, so I should have juice to get some play time today.
