i-mate ULTIMATE 8150 unboxed at Tracy and Matt’s

Jack showed us some nice looking i-mate devices earlier today and now here is another video. Looks to me like i-mate might be returning to form. In the past couple years since the Kjam, it seems that the i-mate line has gotten “cheap” and I have been less than impressed with them. From this video, Jack’s Video, and Judie’s photos, build quality seems to have been improved.

CES 2008 - iMate’s Ultimate Series

CES was as always a great show but this year, for what ever reason, Mobile Device news was at a real premium.  There was nothing ground breaking and quite possibly vendors made the decision to wait until the upcoming 3GSM in February or possibly CTIA in April.

However, I did have a terrific opportunity to see a device that was on display and two that were not and all three got my device envy juices flowing.  With some great specs coupled with a terrific design and quality craftsmanship exuding from each device, I think you will like the short video below.

DC-iMate

While visiting the Microsoft booth, I had the unique opportunity to meet up with Dale Coffing who has become a great friend over the years.  It was Dale that ignited my passion for devices when he ran the very popular website, PocketPCPassion.  I had expressed to Dale that I was somewhat disappointed that there was nothing really special in the mobile arena and that I was disappointed.

Dale smiled and said he had something really special to share and took some time to give us a quick look at three iMate devices.   One of these devices was on display, but two were not so you will get a unique opportunity to get a quick look at what I saw … and I am sure that after seeing them, your device envy juices will flow as well.

Thank you Dale for taking the time to share with the Mobilitysite readers these three terrific iMate devices!

iMate Ultimate 8150 & Ultimate 6150 Review

CoolSmartPhone.com reviews iMate Ultimate 8150 and Ultimate 6150

Both the iMate Ultimate 6150 and the iMate Ultimate 8150 are very capable handsets with lots of power on tap. The specs are excellent and both phones operate far faster than anything I’ve seen before. Videos are smooth, Office documents open quickly and complex Excel spreadsheets are handled without stress. The VGA output turns the device into a real mobile work-horse which lets you arrive anywhere and present a demonstration with nothing more than your iMate Ultimate and its’ included VGA cable.

compare-touch2
Not sure if you remember iMate, they’ve been quite a while. Now it seem they are finally starting to roll out all these phones that were announced around CTIA back in March. iMate used to have a deal with HTC to make phones for them, but iMate has moved on and are trying other makers. Time will tell how the quality is.

i-Mate launching new phones

i-Mate company has confirmed they will be launching 12 new Windows mobile phones soon in 3 different product ranges.

After the break-up with HTC in November, i-Mate and owner Jim Morrison has been very quiet, and i-Mate posted its first loss since operations started in 2001. But now, just before Gitex the Middle East IT Exhibition opens, i-Mate starts talking. All the phones will feature Windows Mobile software, but of course no longer manufactured by HTC - but from a range of manufactures. So the new phone ranges will be:

I-Mate JAMA
The low end versions with a price point of about US$ 350 - small and lightweight. Two new models will hit the market within the next 6 months.

I-Mate Urban
The Mid-Range I-Mate Urban range will be introduced within the next couple of months. Expect about 4 different models priced at about $550.

I-Mate Ultimate

The Ultimate Range of phones - already well know in the market. 6 different phones with almost same specs - only screen, format and keyboards are different on each model. High end phones with a price tag of about $950.

It is confirmed that the Ultimate 6150, Ultimate 8150 and the Urban 201 will be on show at Gitex. More information as it flows in. I will of course participate in Gitex and give you updated information plus hopefully great pictures.

All above is from the mouth of Jack Craine - i-Mates new global sales director. J

i-mate NOT canceling any devices

i-mate-ultimateMatt Miller, Mobile Gadgeteer, heard the rumors of the i-mate canceling three of the five Ultimate series models….. and checked with his source at i-mate and found out it is NOT true!

i-mate announced several new devices that would be coming in 2007 back in February and many sites are now reporting that three of the five models may have been canceled. I just confirmed with my i-mate source that this news is not true, was based on a resellers information, and that there are actually six Ultimate devices scheduled for release. The current plan is to launch 4 at GITEX and the other 2 in early 2008. There was no news on pricing or availability so we will still have to wait to see when and where these devices show up.

Goes to show you….don’t believe everything you read…. Thanks Matt!
