Business Data Accessibility with "Mobile Data Now"
Posted by rabilancia on 07/8/08 in Business, Development, Nokia, Vodafone
One of the frequently heard promises of the handheld mobile device and services industries has long been instant and easy access to business data from any location at anytime. The practical fulfillment of that promise has been nothing less than illusive, if not downright disappointing.
Along comes “Mobile Data Now” from Mobile Data Now Ltd in New Zealand. According to their website: “Mobile Data Now provides a platform for accessing business data and applications by simply using the messaging applications users have on their mobile phones and are already familiar with, such as email, SMS and instant messaging. If you can send a message, you can use Mobile Data Now.“
For years I have been intrigued with practical prospects for the deployment of mobile solutions that easily provide actionable back office information to mobile workers. Accordingly, I will be taking an in depth look at “Mobile Data Now” and will be reporting back with a complete review.
In the meantime, you can learn more directly from the Company at their website.

Nokia welcomes Warner Music Group to "Comes With Music"
Posted by Jack Cook on 07/1/08 in Nokia, Press Releases
So you are probably asking what is “Comes with Music”?
Nokia Comes With Music enables people to buy a Nokia device with a year of access to tracks from a range of great artists - past, present and future. Once the year is complete, customers can keep all their music without having to worry about it disappearing when their subscription is over. Universal Music Group International, SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT and Warner Music Group are part of the launch and Nokia is in discussion with many other international labels.
Sounds pretty good to me and evidently it sounds good to Warner too because today Warner Music Group will make its diverse catalog of new stars and legendary artists available through Nokia Music Stores around the world as well as through Comes With Music, a revolutionary way for people to discover and enjoy music offered uniquely by Nokia.
Nokia N96 Demo On Nokia’s Site
Posted by Chris Leckness on 06/29/08 in Nokia
I read a post at Unwired View a bit ago that was talking about a demo up on Nokia’s site that shows all there is to know about the operation of the Nokia N96. Well, they said the demo was up and then back down as if it were not supposed to be there. Is it supposed to be there? Who know, but it’s back either way…

Last week I posted an introduction to the N78 and now it is available for folks in the US. I said it then and after another week of having it, I still like it … a lot! If you did not see the unboxing video you might want to check it out. I give a quick look at the mapping and music capabilities.

Bulletin to the software is a unique power consumption manager that ensures the effect on the battery is negligible. This works by only ever playing the movie when you are looking at the Idle Screen and at all other times pausing.
An unboxing and first impressions of the Nokia N78
I received the Nokia N78 the other day and have been playing around with this new entry from Nokia. I have to tell you, I like it! The unboxing video below just shows what I saw the day it arrived and I give a quick look at the mapping and music capabilities. I apologize in advance for the errant sound that occurs in the video when ever the device is actively on the network. For what ever reason my video camera picks up the sound that is normally unintelligible to the human ear. In fact there was a sizable portion of the video I deleted because the sound was just too much.
Nokia always gives a first class introduction to their devices as you open the box for the first time. You always have a to take a second to look before you remove it from the box.

Clever content about the N95
Posted by Jay Donovan on 06/17/08 in Nokia
This is not really a post about the device specifics of the N95 but rather a look at how some clever content about the device could raise awareness of the product.
opentoanything.com employed some clever video advertisements to highlight the openness of the s60 development platform for the N95 and other Nokia phones.
While none of the characters are believeable to me as software developers (not one reminded me of any of my linux kernal hypin’, mountain dew swillin’ heros), the content was funny and got the point across that there are lots of applications available for that series of phone.
Speaking of Symbian…
Nokia unveiled two phones designed for business users today in London. Each of the two phones, the QUERTY E71 (an update of the popular E61) and the sliding E66 (an update of the E65). Both look absolutely gorgeous and are likely to be big successes in the Euro and Asian business communities, building on already successful designs with fan followings.
Each phone is available in white or gray and runs Symbian and include Wifi, Bluetooth with A2DP support, HSDPA, assisted GPS and the ability to toggle between a Personal and a Business homescreen, allowing easy access to different groups of apps and features depending on the role. That is a nice touch and I would find it very useful. The E71 also has the benefit of being .4 inches deep, making my Moto Q look downright bulky in comparison.
Both models will be available in Europe and Asia in July, but as they have no US carrier they will be expensive imports in America.
For a review of the E71, check out Boy Genius.
Nokia E71 is on the BGR Doorstep
The folks at the Boy Genius Report got a hold of the new Nokia E71 and they are impressed. They say it takes a lot to get them excited and the E71 has done it for them. They also went out on the limb and said “in our opinion, is the best phone Nokia has made to date”. This device has everything: design, specs, size, and the feel. Could this be a device that will get your “device envy juices” flowing? Check out what they had to say by clicking the link above.

Nokia introduces a trio of handhelds
Nokia has released today three new devices, the Nokia 6600 fold, the Nokia 6600 slide and the Nokia 3600 slide.
“There is a strong consumer demand for mobile handsets that blend elegant looks with modern features,” said Mikkel Drucker, Director, Connect Devices. “Each of the three devices introduced today offers a slightly different take on a core design language. We believe they are both beautiful to use and beautiful to behold - and offer a range of choice.”

It’s in the tube ….
James Sherwood had a piece up about Nokia confirming that they have an “iPhone killer” handset in pipeline. Only time will tell if it is a killer but one thing is for sure, it will be good and you will be able to load 3rd party software from the get go…..
The Finnish giant’s handset is codenamed ‘Tube’, and Tom Libretto, VP of Forum Nokia, said the device will be the company’s “first touch device”.
Libretto remained unsurprisingly coy about the full array of features the Tube will offer. Aside from confirming that the Nokia handset will be entirely touch operated, he added that it will also support Java –

Nokia evolves the Internet experience

…with mobility and broadband speeds united!
Nokia N810 Internet Tablet WiMAX Edition unleashes an open Internet experience, demonstrating the mobile future of web services
Ushering in the next generation of wireless broadband devices, Nokia today unveiled its newest Nseries device, the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet - WiMAX Edition, Nokia’s first device engineered to take advantage of new wide-area high-speed mobile WiMAX networks. This pocket-sized device lets consumers enjoy an open Internet experience, allowing for access to the full Internet without barriers, while on the go. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is the latest iteration of Nokia’s popular line of Internet Tablet products. For the first time, the power and convenience of the Internet Tablet platform is combined with next generation wide-area wireless broadband capability, allowing users to easily and quickly access all of their favorite Internet services beyond local area hot spots. The Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition is expected to be available in the United States during the summer of 2008 in areas where WiMAX connectivity is available.
WiMAX is a standards-based wireless broadband technology that delivers an open Internet experience similar to that of fixed broadband technologies with typical data download speeds of up to 2-4 Mbps per user with peak download speeds of up to 10 Mbps. Unlike current single point local area technologies like Wi-Fi which have a range of a few hundred feet, WiMAX networks consist of a number of interconnected base stations, each with a radius of up to 2-3 miles, that allow for handoffs from one base station to another as users move about a region or metro area. Additionally, WiMAX networks integrate technology designed to maximize the quality of service for each subscriber.
