Android Tablet coming soon

According to a report posted at Ubergizmo

Kinpo is working on a 7" Android tablet that will be powered by a Freescale processor, where it offers a decent 800 x 600 resolution on its 7" touchscreen display.

But, that’s not as important as the OS that will be used in this tablet… Android! I don’t know why but it seems to me that in 5 years we all are going to see Android as an alternative selecting what OS we are going to be installing in our PCs.

Conficker Worm - Are you protected?

worm All too often we become complacent with all that we do and forget the most basic tasks to guarantee security.  Most, if not all, of you have heard of the Conficker Worm.  This worm HAS infected millions of computers since January and if you have an anti-virus program that is NOT up to date with the latest patches, you are at serious risk.  In a recent HP article, they said:

Researchers estimate the Conficker worm has infected millions of computers since January. The Conficker worm tries to take advantage of a problem with Windows called MS08-067 to quietly install itself and spread by copying itself into shared folders on networks and by infecting USB devices such as memory sticks. If it finds a vulnerable computer, it turns off the automatic backup service, deletes previous restore points, disables many security services, blocks access to a number of security web sites and opens infected machines to receive additional programs from the malware’s creator. The worm then tries to spread itself to other computers on the same network.

So what can you do? Make sure you have automatic updates turned on AND your antivirus software is up-to-date!

Tablet Accessibility Award

  • $8,000 USD, to be divided equally among each officially registered member of the Team
  • A Tablet device (Lenovo ThinkPad X61 Tablet PC) for each officially registered member of the Team. ARV US $ 1,028,00
  • A trip for each officially registered member of the Team to Cairo, Egypt to attend the Worldwide Finals. Trip includes round trip coach air travel, standard hotel accommodations and select meals.

Do I have your attention? All the above could be yours if you participate in this contest and of course, you are the winner. All you need is some programming skills to create an application for Tablet PC like the one requested in the contest.

The object of the Tablet Accessibility Award is to create a new education application that uses Tablet technology while expanding the possibilities about how a user interacts with the computer. The application should reflect the Imagine Cup theme, “Imagine a world where technology helps solve the toughest problems facing us today,” as it relates to the United Nations Millennium Goal of Universal Education.

Microsoft believes Tablet technology can contribute significantly to learning (for both the educator and the learner). There are great examples of the use of Tablet in learning in 1:1 computing, 1: many computing, and distance learning. More work is needed, and more creativity and ingenuity is required. In this Award, students will explore the innovative use of Tablet to expand the possibilities of accessible learning of persons with physical and or cognitive disabilities limitations.

Tablet PCs are Students’ best friends

Here is a video that explains very well why many of us say that a TabletPC is a more advanced device than a regular laptop. To me there is not any other device that can achieve what a Tablet can for any student.

The future is Touch

Somebody said that the Tablet PC future was guaranteed because we learned to use a pencil before we learned to use a keyboard. And I would add, before we learned how to use a pen we knew already how to use our fingers. So the future of anything with Touch Screen is more than guaranteed.

How to be mobile

htbm

Check this out if you are a user of mini-notes, notebooks and other ultra mobile devices.  VIA just launched a new website today called “How To Be Mobile” which is primarily aimed at mainstream users of mini-notes, notebooks and other ultra mobile devices. VIA wants to take tips and user information for ultra mobile products and pass it on to the everyday “regular” user like fishermen, chefs, travelers and sportsmen etc. This promises to be a good place to check out for the latest VIA news as well as some great tips.

So how can it help you, Joe Average User?  Well here is just one (of many) example.  Are you a fisherman?  Here is a tip that they passed on with this piece about Hi-Tech Fishing: Part I

Finding where the fish are is undoubtedly the most important aspect to fishing. You can have the most expensive, state-of-the-art rods, reels, lures and bait, but if you’re in the wrong place you’re wasting your time.

Resourceful anglers have been using GPS and electronic charting for years to scout, pattern and mark fishing trails with greater accuracy, which in turn leads to a more successful day out on the water.

map1

Using a shareware version of OziExplorer GPS Mapping Software together with a GPS receiver (you can pick up a leading-brand Bluetooth unit for around US$50) OziExplorer allows you to work with maps that you’ve either purchased or scanned. Your GPS position is plotted on the map providing real time tracking ability (moving map) and makes it easy to track waypoints, routes, and “hot” spots, all of which can be edited and saved to your hard disk for future use.

If you liked Part 1, then you want to check out Hi-Tech Fishing: Part II where they go even further, turning your notebook into a dual GPS/fishfinder.

So fishing is not your thing?  Then check out this Mobile WiFi Hotspot.  Called MiFi, it is a portable wireless router that will deliver to EVDO or HSPA high speed data network access to multiple users in a small area. Much the same size as a credit card, the sleek looking MiFi can be shared not only between up to five users, but between devices such as laptops, cameras, gaming devices and multimedia players.
