Gizmodo Is Confused but Warner figures it out

Crocker Concise Dictionary So Gizmodo is confused about the naming structure out there for UMPCs, ULCPCs, mini-notebooks, ultraportables, subnotebooks, and netbooks  They just don’t understand the difference between all of them but not to worry Giz, Warner Crocker from  GottaBeMobile has it all figured out.  Yeah we can probably blame the marketing folks for all the names but blame does not answer the questions “what is a ULCPC?” or “what is the difference between a Subnotebook and a mini-Notebook?”

So after a serious amount of time researching the meaning of each, Warner has come up with the Crocker Concise Definition Mobile Dictionary. In his first release of this soon to be time honored classic, Warner clearly defines the Subnotebook, Ultraportable, Mini-Notebook, Ultra-Low Cost PC (ULCPC, Netbook, Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC)).

So if you want to know the meaning of each, I urge you to head over to GottaBeMobile and find out the true meaning of each and urge Warner for the quick release of Revision 2

Tethering the AT&T Tilt to Nokia N800/N810 …

Jenn, over at Pocketables.net, has explained in step by step instructions how to tether her AT&T Tilt (WM6) to the Nokia N800/N810 Internet Tablet.

Although various hacks and utilities exist to enable the functionality, I didn’t have to use any of them because the Tilt actually supports BT DUN right out of the box. Or at least it does after all the AT&T nonsense is wiped off. (Given that AT&T buried Internet Sharing and put Wireless Modem in its place, I wouldn’t put it past them to have somehow disabled DUN too.)

Unfortunately, just because the functionality is there doesn’t mean it automatically works. The main obstacle when trying to establish a BT DUN connection between the Tilt and the N800/N810 is that Nokia’s predefined operator settings aren’t correct

DirecTV - Remote Recording

DirecTV logo

Joining the rest of the world, and embracing the need for technology to improve the mobility of our needs, DirecTV has added the capability to add shows from a remote location.

With the DVR Scheduler (previously known as Remote Booking), you can log onto the mobile site at m.directv.com, and bounce a record signal from DirecTV’s satellite down to your DVR in minutes. The soft launch has HR20-700 DVR models going live right about now, with more models and an official rollout scheduled for February. Even the venerable TiVo HR10-250 is scheduled to get this feature.

No more leaving the house, getting to work, and wondering if you are going miss the latest Martha Stewart, umm, I mean Monster Garage.

MTube - the beeper of the future

MTube4.jpgMTube is a new MID that is about to hit the market and you probably are asking yourself why I did call it the beeper of the future. Well, as you can see in the picture in the right it looks like a beeper. But I did not call it beeper just because of that. I called beeper because to me this device will do the same thing that beepers did few years ago, they created the need to have a phone everywhere and at any time. The MTube is here to create the need for Internet everywhere and at any time. That’s what the combination of WiMax and WiFi means guys. A future that is here and we have not even noticed.

Mozilla To Port Firefox On Mobile Devices?

mozillafirefoxnt0 This would be great news for all of us “less than satisfied” PIE users! According to the::unwired, Mike Schroepfer from the Mozilla Foundation posted on his blog that there are plans to port Firefox to mobile devices. Mozilla also plans to expand their full time contributors to help focus on applications for mobile devices.

This certainly is great news, however, information indicated that we probably won’t see anything until next year. One word Mozilla…. HURRY!

Nokia New Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition version with memory card fix

Nokia has released a new version of the Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition, available now for download. This new release (version number 4.2007.38-2) provides a software fix for a bug which may have appeared while copying large amount of data over-the-air or from external SDHC memory card to internal memory or vice versa. In some cases the downloaded data may have corrupted.

This new release fixes also a bug which drops in some cases voltage from memory card, though cards should manage this kind of situations without corruption.

BenQ Mobile Internet Device on video

The Benq device is revealed. Its a 4.8″ screen with what looks like 800×480 res. That’s RedFlag’s Midinux running as the interface. Shiny blue plastic and Linux could mean a cheaper price perhaps? Keyboard? Is that a camera? Lots of questions to be asked!

There’s a very short video on the YouTube Intel Channel
