ASUS Eee PC 1000H naked
Posted by ctitanic on 06/25/08 in Asus Eee, Subnotebooks, Ultra Mobiles
Here is another naked lady courtesy of TweakTown, this time the victim is the newest Asus Eee PC 1000H.
Today we are going to strip down a juicier, more mature model; something seductively more endowed, and covered in glossy black. No more innocent “clad in white” teeny tid-bit viewing; this is an all-black leather mistress with her whips and chains, and it took a great deal of coaxing to calm her out of her plastic glossy black briefs. Rest assured though, that the few scars from the screws, and the torment as she teased us, nearly caused several explosions! - As you would have guessed by now, the story is diverse as well as slightly on the dark side. So please note that like our previous Eee PC exposé which you can view here, the content is slightly risqué.

Maximum Mini-Note
Posted by Zealot on 06/22/08 in Subnotebooks, UMPC, VIA
Eee PC News has a great story this weekend showing the vast cavalcade of VIA C7-M based Mini-notes and UMPCs that were presented in Computex a few weeks back. The post is in German, but the best part of it are the photographs which speak for themselves.
And what thousand words are these photos whispering in my shell-like ear? Well, first of all that there are a LOT of vendors I have never heard of (take for example Ngai Lik. When was the last time you sat down to work on your Ngai Lik? What about CZC? Sounds like an airport abbreviation somewhere in the former Soviet Union. iDOT? TongFang?). Secondly, considering how these devices all seem to look alike, with pretty much identical specs…there are going to be a lot of Mini-notes from little known Chinese vendors heavily discounted all over the web next January. Hope these suckers are recyclable, as I can’t imagine the market will be able to bear so many nearly identical models.
I would have to imagine most of these are concept devices which may never see the light of production, but there are some interesting devices on display, such as the Everex Cloudbook Max (clearly based on the new OpenBook design as it lists as WiMax ready). It certainly does show the sheer number of companies that are working overtime to enter the Mini-note/UMPC market. Next big thing, or passing fad?
Check out all the pictures HERE.

Jason Dunn is a very well known person by anyone that has ever owned anything small with batteries. This is why this unboxing video about the HP 2133 is really something that anybody thinking about to buy one of those should check.
Do you believe in love at first sight? Normally I don’t, but I have to say, one look at the HP 2133 Mini Note and I felt my heart flutter - it’s damn fine looking!
Atoya, the new kid in town
Posted by ctitanic on 06/6/08 in Atoya, Medion, Subnotebooks, Ultra Mobiles
Atoya is the latest UMPC/mini notebook shown at Computex by Medion, a known OEM for UMPC owners.
Adopting a 10-inch screen with 1024*800 resolution and 1.3M webcam, the Akoya supports 802.11n wireless LAN, 1GB of DDR2 memory and 80GB HDD.
The price of this one is going to be around 400 Euros. What I can say… I just can remember when a year ago nobody believed that UMPCs were a good business.

Gizmodo Is Confused but Warner figures it out
Posted by Jack Cook on 05/31/08 in General, Laptops, Mobile Internet Device, Subnotebook, Subnotebooks, Tablet PC, ULPC, UMPC, Ultra Mobiles, miniTablet PC
So Gizmodo is confused about the naming structure out there for UMPCs, ULCPCs, mini-notebooks, ultraportables, subnotebooks, and netbooks They just don’t understand the difference between all of them but not to worry Giz, Warner Crocker from GottaBeMobile has it all figured out. Yeah we can probably blame the marketing folks for all the names but blame does not answer the questions “what is a ULCPC?” or “what is the difference between a Subnotebook and a mini-Notebook?”
So after a serious amount of time researching the meaning of each, Warner has come up with the Crocker Concise Definition Mobile Dictionary. In his first release of this soon to be time honored classic, Warner clearly defines the Subnotebook, Ultraportable, Mini-Notebook, Ultra-Low Cost PC (ULCPC, Netbook, Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC)).
So if you want to know the meaning of each, I urge you to head over to GottaBeMobile and find out the true meaning of each and urge Warner for the quick release of Revision 2
New pictures of the Dell Small Factor PC

BetaNews has published two more pictures of the new Dell Subnotebook. Unfortunately so far there are not news about the specifications of this machine. Would this one use the new Nano from VIA? Will Dell go with Intel? Who knows…
It’s cute, it’s red, it has a Dell logo, and for many, it’s enough. The buzz machine has been reignited, after Michael Dell gave a prominent Gizmodo writer another peek at something small it’s been cooking up in its laboratories.
Superfetch, leave it on or turn it off?
Posted by ctitanic on 05/19/08 in Microsoft, Subnotebooks, UMPC, Ultra Mobiles, Windows Vista, miniTablet PC
Let me start this short article by quoting what’s the definition of Superfetch according to Microsoft:
Windows SuperFetch enables programs and files to load much faster than they would on Windows XP–based PCs.
When you’re not actively using your computer, background tasks—including automatic backup programs and antivirus scans—run when they will least disturb you. These background tasks can take up system memory space that your programs had been using. On Windows XP–based PCs, this can slow progress to a crawl when you attempt to resume work.
SuperFetch monitors which applications you use the most and preloads these into your system memory so they’ll be ready when you need them. Windows Vista also runs background programs, like disk defragmenting and Windows Defender, at low priority so that they can do their job but your work always comes first.
So, from this you can easily guess that this feature was designed to increase your system performance. Then, why if you look around the web you will find as many posts and articles recommending to turn it off as articles saying that it should be left on? The answer is Simple, because it does not work well in all the different hardware configurations available in the market.
New pictures of the Noahpad

Courtesy of todoUMPC I received today a few new pictures of the Noahpad, a new Subnotebook with a VIA processor that should hit the market this summer.
It’s really interesting the new keyboard concept. You can replace it with new language layout in just few minutes.
