It’s time to add a couple folks to Mobilitysite’s great staff.

  • Do you want to browse the net for the coolest new mobile devices to share with the world?
  • Do you want to have an opportunity to test some of the coolest devices and accessories in the world?
  • Are you looking for something you can do from anywhere in the world in you pajamas if you want?

Well, me too! Mobilitysite does not offer all this, but we still want you! We can only offer you the last 3 bullet items though.

We are currently seeking more geeks that love Mobile Devices and like to share thoughts, opinions, tips and info, and generally help keep the community informed about breaking news about devices, services, software, etc.

If you are interested in seeing learning more about what we are looking for, go here and shoot us a line or shoot an email off to Chris(at)Mobilitysite.com. Make sure to tell us about yourself and your background. Also let me know why you’d like to join the team.

Mobilitysite on the Kindle

The other day a combination of Judie’s Gear Diary post announcing her blog as being in the Kindle Blogs program and Matt Miller’s post at The Mobile Gadgeteer telling how to get in, I decided to take time out to get Mobilitysite in there. I previously hadn’t considered it, but then I decided “Why Not?”. It was fairly simple to put in place. It uses the standard RSS feed to get the info into the store, so if this goes well, I will create a new feed that does not have “extras” in it to make the feed cleaner.

I don’t own a Kindle personally. I don’t read enough books to warrant the cost to be honest. What I do read, I can read on my desktop, laptop, netbook, or phone. I am impressed at what Amazon has done with the Kindle, it’s just not for me. I am waiting on some screenshots and critique of how Mobilitysite looks on the Kindle.

Sorry for the cost. It was not set by me. In fact, I don’t even know if I get any royalties and I really don’t care. If I could give it free, I would.

Upcoming Reviews @ Mobilitysite

Hey everyone. A couple weeks ago, I replied to a tweet where someone asked if you let your audience know what reviews are coming down the line. I said that I don’t. My reasoning is because things happen. I work 40-50hrs a week and sometimes free time doesn’t present itself. I don’t want to promise something and then fall down on my promise. That said, I normally wouldn’t do this, but I need to give myself a deadline. So here goes, here is what I plan to post reviews on in the next couple weeks…

  1. Samsung Omnia on Verizon. I have been sitting on this one since before CTIA. Sorry. I’ve already used it for several weeks, but haven’t gotten around to even taking photos. This will be the 1st review to expect. Yes, I know its a tad old news, but the device deserves to be reviewed.
  2. Samsung Propel Pro - I have been using this for a solid month. I love it, but I gotta get the review out. I did a couple videos already, but no photos. (vid 1 / vid 2)
  3. HTC Touch Diamond 2 - I haven’t even opened the box. This one will be 3rd in line. I will slap my sim card in it tonight.
  4. Acer M900 - I’ve had it for a month, but I haven’t had much chance to play with it, nor take photos. I will fix that tonight.
  5. Samsung Jack - We don’t have it yet, but this one will be reviewed by Bryan Eley as soon as we get it and he has time to put it though its paces.

Tonight, I am going to put down the redesign project and get the camera and light studio cleaned up and shoot all 4 photos for some eye candy, then I will get to work clearing off my plate. Gotta get these damn phones out of here. I am so sick of all these monkey fighting phones on this monday to friday desk. (FX “Snakes on a Plane” Reference) Once again, I am sharing this to give myself a deadline. To make myself get my work competed.  See ya then.

iPhone News @ Mobilitysite

Here are Mobilitysite, I have to admit that we are quite WinMo centric. Well, that has a lot to do with the fact that we have evolved from a Pocket PC / Window Mobile site. As time progresses, we are becoming more and more open to discussion of other platforms. We will NEVER lose our WinMo roots and WinMo will always have a special spot in our hearts here.

With the iPhone being so popular and lots of our own staff using the iPhone now, there is definitely a need for more iPhone coverage here. In order to keep from spamming our frontpage with dozens of app announcements and reviews, I have decided to create a separate blog to accommodate this. “Oh my, why ANOTHER iPhone blog?” I know right. Simply put, there are plenty of great resources out there for the iPhone, but this will be our little place on the web to share our iPhone application and accessories opinions. This will be a place to announce all the “There’s an App for that” apps.

I would like to invite anyone that is interested in our iPhone coverage to head over and support the guys we have set up over. These guys are very enthusiastic and I would love to see some good conversations over there. I will ask the WinMo guys not to harass them though. :)

Moving forward, I am going to add the last 10 items from this blog to our sidebar here and I will make a post here and there linking what’s hot over there too. What is funny is that this isn’t the 1st time I toyed with this idea. I started CooliPhoneBlog over a year ago and never really followed through with it. I have now forwarded it and iPodsite to this new blog.

New Comment System @ Mobilitysite!

I always try to keep up with times in regards to my websites. Many of you are well aware of that, but some of the newer readers around here might not remember how much I put into all this. The main reason for that is that I have gotten busy and/or lazy the last year or so. Well, I binge and purge and these last couple days, I have been binging…

The main things that I have done are all social. I got back involved with Twitter myself, on a personal level. I changed up the look of my personal blog and now I am here to spruce up my main site, Mobilitysite! I started with a little project I have been considering for a while. I decided to install Disqus on my personal blog to handle comments as a test and it’s doing fine, so I imported all 10k comments from our database into Disqus and it’s in place here.

comments

What’s so special about it? Well, it offers some features that that the default Wordpress install does not. Threaded comments, better security, but most importantly, it allows you to bridge one account across any blog using the same system. I have it installed on my personal blog, Judie has it installed over at Gear Diary, and there are 1000’s of other sites using it too. Play around with it and you’ll see why I like it.

Other than the comments, I just cleaned up a bit, but I have more in store in the next couple weeks!

What’s Up @ Mobilitysite?

Just some notes about what to expect from Mobilitysite moving forward…

  1. waldoWhere is Chris? If you are a regular here, you’d notice that we’ve been a little quieter than normal over here. There is no denying that. There are various reasons for that, but I can assure you that we are still committed to bringing you Mobility News, Mobilitysite style. We are still here and still. I will admit that my own lack of participation has multiple reasons as well. I have been busy in my job and there hasn’t been much in Mobility that has excited me lately. Not much at all. Jack has been a little quiet too. He is recovering from multiple trips in the last couple months, CES 2009, Microsoft MVP Summit, etc… Anyhow, just putting it out there. I will be in Las Vegas next week for CTIA Wireless 2009. I will have some reporting to do there.
  2. Podcasting - Do we still want podcasts here? I have cleaned out my office over the weekend and under all the clutter, I found a mixing board. Tracing some of the wires back, I found a microphone connected to it. Wonder what that is for? What do you think? Bring it back?
  3. iPhone Coverage? I recently did some talking with our staff and realized that quite a few of my Axim reviewers are using iPhones now. I knew of a couple, but didn’t realize how many were. I don’t wanna slam the front page here with iPhone reviews, but these guys want to share their thoughts about apps and accessories for the iPhone, so we’re working on something there. Standby for launch. I will remind you that Mobilitysite is made up of many opinions. Many of our core are Windows Mobile Enthusiasts that have used WinMo for quite some time. This site will have a lean towards WinMo by default. That’s natural and should be embraced. Myself, I love WinMo, but I see the good in iPhone, Android, and even PalmOS.
  4. Videos - I lost my video camera not too long ago. I replaced it with a cheap HD camera, but was not happy with it. I now have another that I am playing with, so videos are coming again soon. I also found my old video camera after the 2nd HD camera purchase too.
  5. Forums - The issues that are prevalent in the forums right now are being addressed. I have sent out my beacon for my cleanup hitter to come in and debug a couple issues I can not seem to resolve myself.
  6. Traffic - I am pleased to inform you all that despite my recent inactivity, Mobilitysite’s traffic and RSS subscriptions have increased. It makes me wonder if I should stay inactive. hehe… We are on our way to 10,000 RSS subscribers. Thanks to everyone that reads our dribble via RSS. Come by and comment sometime!

Thanks for reading and I apologize for the lack luster showing here lately.

New Forum Features Added

Along with MyPDA and other custom tools in our forums, we have added some new social functionality. All users have a new profile page that displays more info, shows your new social groups, shows your friends, and even you photo galleries. Yes, each user can now create their own photo galleries. I put a couple test ones on my profile.

newprofiles

Another minor, but really cool feature is a nifty lightbox for image attachments.

newphotoviewer

There are many other additions as well. There is a new tagging system for keyword tagging and search. Thread prefixes are new too, but I haven’t set that up yet. This will allow us to put a prefix for certain types of threads. Pretty cool. I will set this up soon. A big plus for a big board like ours is some powerful new spam protection. There is a new friends list, user created social groups, and even public profile commenting. Some of these features are going to make MyPDA a little less helpful, huh? Well hop in and help us iron out the bugs and enjoy the new features.

Fresh Meat

I’ve just joined the Mobility Site team as a news editor.  I’ll probably be focusing on Windows Mobile devices here.  I’ve been around Windows Mobile since it was Windows CE back in the late 90s, and have posted here and elsewhere as Pony99CA.  If you want to read more about me than you really should know, you can check out my History page at my personal site.

We now return to our regularly scheduled posts.

Contest Update

I have selected all the winners and many have replied with their info. I have sent out most of the items I had in my own hands. I have ordered the Zune 120 to be dropped shipped to the winner and forwarded info to companies that preferred to ship directly to the winners. So most of the major items are taken care of.

The reason for the quick post on this is the software items. I am waiting on a couple more to reply then I will assemble a list of winners for each of the software companies that participated so they can get the codes/links/downloads to you guys. Thanks for the patience.

Help Wanted - Inquire Within

2008 was a great year for Mobilitysite. We saw a steady growth in RSS subscribers and a slight increase in overall web traffic. The focus has shifted over the years here, but we’re still ticking. We could use some more expertise from some passionate folks to help move us forward too.

HelpWanted

It’s time to add a couple folks to Mobilitysite’s great staff. This isn’t your typical help wanted ad though, read on to find out why…

Did you get any Mobile Tech for Christmas?

image Me? No. All I got were snacks(peanuts and gift baskets), University of Alabama clothing, and gift cards, but I can head over to Best Buy and Circuit City and get something nice. What about you? What did you get for Christmas? Anyone get a new phone or PDA? A Netbook?

I bought my daughter a red Zune 80 to replace her green Zune 8 and Rock Band for the Wii for Christmas. My son got a ton of Wii games, Legos, and a couple remote controlled vehicles. My son also got an extra surprise in his room too…

Mobilitysite Happenings - 12/22/08

Just a little note to share some things going on here lately.

  1. Comments - I had to turn off the fancy comment system we have that is powered by SezWho. With the large amount of comments we are getting in our contests, the script is bogging down the server. Once the contests die down, I will probably reactivate it.
  2. The Contests - We still have several to announce, but we have the bulk of them already posted. Check out all the contest info here.
  3. Upgrades - I told you back in November that we have some upgrades upcoming. Some of the upgrades have occurred, but not all of them. I am having an issue with the forums, so it might be after the Holidays. I am also setting up a new Review Section for an easier way to look up old reviews. I should have that online soon.
  4. Podcast . I haven’t done one since June 2008. It’s coming back and it will be a new format as well. You won’t have to sit through just my voice anymore, there will be guests to break up the monotony.

We are changing it up for the better. Hope everything works out for everyone!
