PenCommander 2.1
PhatWare Corp. has announced the immediate availability of PenCommander 2.1 for Windows XP and Vista-based Tablet and Ultra Mobile PCs. The new version features an improved user interface for Visual PenCommander, a tool which provides an Integrated Development Environment (IDE)-like environment for creating and testing PenCommander scripts; significantly reduced memory footprint; and improved support for Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
PenCommander enables a pen to be used to call up commands that can control Tablet PCs and UMPCs in almost limitless ways, such as editing documents, inserting often-repeated text into documents and launching applications. Scripts are executed by writing a PenCommand name on the application’s input panel. PenCommander is recognized as the best tool for entering repetitive data, accessing frequently used applications and documents, inserting time, date and signature, and overall extending Tablet PC functionality and user’s productivity.
PenCommander 2.1 is now available at reduced price of $24.95. Registered users of previous versions of PenCommander can upgrade at no cost. The registration code for PenCommander 1.5 or later will work for PenCommander 2.1. Check out PenCommander 2.1 here at http://www.phatware.com/pencommander. You can download a preview copy to try …. I think you will like it.

One of the features that I liked from my Samsung Q1 was the sound quality. The Q1 was prepared with drivers with SRS capability. Yesterday browsing the web I found that you can get the same sound quality in any UMPC or Netbook by just installing SRS Audio SandBox.
The SRS Audio Sandbox was designed recognizing audio has become more important as many people use their PC for entertainment, both at home and on the road. With SAS you can customize your audio experience based on music, movie, video or game content.
Let me tell you… the sound on my P1610 was just horrible and after installing this program I enjoyed playing music again like I did before in my old Samsung Q1. Fantastic! A Must Have!

Wordpress for iPhone - It’s Out, Looks Hot, But…
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/22/08 in Software, iPhone
I was talking with Jason Dunn from Pocket PC Thoughts yesterday and mentioned to him that the only application for the iPhone that I really want to see is one that allows mobile blogging to wordpress. Something like Windows Live Writer. Well, I woke up this morning and James Kendrick at JKontheRun posted about the “official” iPhone Wordpress Application. Looks great, sounds perfect, but I can’t use it unfortunately.
It seems that you can only use this app with version 2.5.1 of Wordpress. Because of the complexity and custom work on Mobilitysite, I won’t be seeing 2.5.1 for a while. I am going to test it with my personal blog after upgrading it tonight though.
The App was released today and here is what they have to say about it.
Introducing the first Open Source app that lets you write posts, upload photos, and edit your WordPress blog from your iPhone or iPod Touch. With support for both WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress (2.5.1 or higher), users of all experience levels can get going in seconds. Download it now!

Control your UMPC with your voice

Sure, you can do that if you use a program like tazti, a very easy to use kind of voice recognition program.
Tracking your stolen UMPC
Every year thousands of Laptops are stolen or lost in USA along and you could become part of these statistics. Are you prepared if this happens? What can you do? Should you pay hundreds for a tracking software? What if I tell you that you can track the location of your UMPC without paying a penny. And that’s exactly what Adeona is promising.
Adeona is the first Open Source system for tracking the location of your lost or stolen laptop that does not rely on a proprietary, central service. This means that you can install Adeona on your laptop and go — there’s no need to rely on a single third party. What’s more, Adeona addresses a critical privacy goal different from existing commercial offerings. It is privacy-preserving. This means that no one besides the owner (or an agent of the owner’s choosing) can use Adeona to track a laptop. Unlike other systems, users of Adeona can rest assured that no one can abuse the system in order to track where they use their laptop.
I have been testing this program in my P1610 and it’s amazing to see how I can recover the IP address and ISP used to connect to Internet. Knowing the IP you can contact the Police and they can demand from the Internet Service Provider (ISP) the information about who is using or used that IP. That simple.
Adeona is a "Must Have" in any mobile device.
You can now edit HTC TouchFLO 3D Settings
Posted by Chris Leckness on 07/9/08 in HTC, Software
Someone over at PPC-Welt Community has released a free program called that adds some customization options to the HTC Touch Diamond by allowing a user to rearrange the TouchFLO 3D tabs. The free application is called Diamond TF3D Config. I’ve not used the Diamond yet, but I understand there there is little or no customization options for this built in, so this application is filling a need for customization. This is what draws a lot of people to Windows Mobile. People like to make something “theirs”.

You can head over to their site to download or you can grab a copy from….

Posted by Tim Hillebrand on 07/7/08 in Companies, Software, Vito Technology
Vito Technology has developed a stable of iPhone like finger-friendly applications, which are constantly updating to the point that it’s difficult to keep up with their exuberance. FunContact in iteration 2.15 is the latest to receive enhancements.
Among the virtues of FunContact is the ability to slide your finger to scroll your contacts, a popout keypad for quick dial and T9 predictive lookups, and quick access to call history and favorites.
It allows you to create new contacts, add new phone numbers from call log, add to or edit existing data, or send a text message quickly and conveniently from the main control panel. You can create or display a list of favorites by tapping the yellow star in the control panel.

Mobilizing Your Company? Be Prepared!
Posted by Diego Samuilov on 06/28/08 in Business, Development, General, PocketPC, Smart Phones, Software
When attempting to transition your place of work from not using mobile devices to using them you may be faced with some serious challenges. No matter how prepared you can be or how well laid out your project really is, you could find some opposing forces along the way. Change, specifically aimed at progress, is always something that might be feared by some people. Just be prepared to hold hands and guide through the process and get armed with a killer training program so that changes are well received.
Some of the opposing forces to mobility could be counted as concerns which might as well be perfectly reasonable, just have in mind that a good implementation will address all concerns with smart and appropriately budgeted solutions.
Some of these concerns include:
- User Adoption
- Total Cost of Ownership
- Common IT Infrastructure
- Network Concerns
- Security
Finally! pdamill favorites for Windows Mobile Standard/Smartphones!
This makes me very happy since I have become an avid Q9m user. Getting my favorite games that I have enjoyed so much on my Pocket PCs for so long is great news.
After more waiting, more work, and more fighting with Ninjas, pdamill has finally released 5 more of their fantastic titles for Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphones and Windows Mobile 6 Standard devices!
The following games are now available to play:
Arvale: Journey of Illusion
Arvale II: Ocean of Time
Arvale: Short Tales
Bowling for Burgers
GameBox Gems
My all time favorite is Arvale which contains over 20 hours of gameplay, 6 immense continents, several hyperboles, 280 maps, 200 monsters, hundreds of items (including wheelbarrows!), several typos, and
thousands of laughs! …. and it’s just plain fun to play!
Free GPS navigation for your device!
I caught this item on The Red Ferret Journal and thought it was a pretty cool item that you may like. Nav4All is a free gps navigation for your mobile phone! Yeah … FREE!! Available in 55 languages and is compatible with most handsets.
So will it be free forever? Maybe not but at least for the next couple of years it will be so I think it is worth looking at. What is huge (I think) is the ability to have access to maps all over the world … great if you are on that once in a lifetime trip!
Check out Nav4All here!
Westward for Symbian S60 and UIQ smartphones
In February, Astraware introduced Westward for Windows Mobile and now they have officially released it for Symbian S60 and UIQ smartphones today. I have been using it on a Nokia N78 and have found it to be extraordinary. Astraware does a terrific job on graphics and it plays well on small screen devices. If you have a Symbian S60 or UIQ device, this is well worth checking out.
Enter the wild, rough and tumble world of Westward
Astraware and Sandlot Games are excited to announce the release of Westward for Symbian S60 and UIQ smartphones. The highly acclaimed game was released for Palm OS and Windows Mobile smartphones and PDAs earlier this year.
Based on the hit PC game by Sandlot Games, Westward offers many hours of absorbing game play as players control the destiny of the Wild West by building thriving towns, exploring unchartered plains, dense forests and rocky canyons and guiding their settlers to safety and success.
Westward features 4 different locations to explore with more than 20 game levels. Players manage a variety of resources and deal with environmental disasters like fire and drought, all while following the trail of the Mad Russian, a con artist extraordinaire, who must be brought to justice before he can cheat anyone else out of their life savings.
Westward has been optimized for smartphones running S60 3rd Edition and UIQ3 and can be controlled using 5-way, key controls or stylus. The game is available now, priced $19.95. To download a trial or to purchase, visit http://www.astraware.com/westward.
