Skyfire Update Version 0.6.0.4489
Posted by Doug Smith on 04/30/08 in Browsers, Software, The Internet
It’s no secret that I have really liked Skyfire. Version 0.5 was excellent with a few bugs. I sent some feedback to them along with what I am sure is a ton of other Beta Testers and they listened! Some of my suggestions was editing bookmarks, and multi line editing for Google! Version 0.6 has all of these in it! I am really excited about this release and have been playing with it all morning. Update came at 6:30am! (zzzzzzz)
Here are the updates log:
- Multi-line text entry (2000 character limit)
- Auto-complete text entry
- Paste into URL or search
- Ability to delete bookmarks
- Multiple zoom modes for touch screen phones
- Double tap to zoom in and zoom out
- Support for custom virtual keyboards (SIP)
- Web search shortcut in softkey menu
- Access to Windows Mobile Taskbar in softkey menu
- Persistent settings for Smartfit, Mute and Zoom size
- Support for 12 key and 1/2 QWERTY Devices
- Password Masking
- Backlight usage based on system settings
- OK button sends Skyfire to the background
This is a lot of updates! I think Skyfire may have launched themselves to the front of the Browser Race with this latest release. Check out a ton of screen shots after the break.
Skype for Mass-Market Mobile Phones
Posted by Jack Cook on 04/25/08 in Software, The Internet
I use Skype all the time and find it very reliable in my day to day calls. Having it on my device will be a huge advantage for some of the calls I make. At this point in time, the devices that are supported are limited and one can only hope that Skype will make this beta version available for Windows Mobile devices soon.
Following recent moves to extend Skype conversations to a wide variety of new mobile and wireless devices, Skype is taking another major step as it continues to merge its internet communications software with mobile phones. Today, the company released a beta version of Skype for your mobile, a mobile “thin“ client that works on about 50 of the most popular Java-enabled mobile phones from Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson.
The beta version of Skype for your mobile is available worldwide with a feature set that includes chat, group chat, presence (seeing when your contacts are online), and receiving calls from Skype users, and through SkypeIn.* Additional features, which include the making of Skype-to-Skype and SkypeOut calls from the mobile handsets, are initially supported in seven markets: Brazil (Rio de Janeiro), Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Unlimited International Calls
Posted by Jack Cook on 04/21/08 in The Internet
…. for $9.95/month
As long as I have an Internet connection I can make a call and my experience with Skype’s unlimited calls to the U.S. and Canada for $3 a month has been nothing less than extraordinary. I would expect this new Skype plan will be just as good.
So what are they doing? Well, it is a pretty neat plan for those of you that have a real need to make overseas calls. Today, Skype introduced its first plan for unlimited calls to overseas phones and this plan will allow unlimited calls to land-line phones in 34 countries for $9.95 per month. The included countries are most of Europe as well as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Malaysia.
Calls to domestic land lines and cell phones are included as well, as are calls to cell phones in Canada, China, Hong Kong and Singapore, but not cell phones in other countries.

Tungle - A FREE, effective and simple meeting coordinator.
Posted by Jack Cook on 04/15/08 in The Internet
This is something you just may want to check out if you have a lot of meetings that you need to schedule. Tungle saves you an immense amount of time coordinating meetings. You can use it to share your availability with anyone before sending a meeting invitation. What is special is that Tungle works across organizations, independent of the calendar or groupware system that is being used. Sound interesting? It did to me so I’ve decided that I want to give it try and thought that I would pass this on to you.
Coordinating meetings can take more time than the meeting itself. Outlook users have been confined to using solutions like Exchange, to help them in this task. Unfortunately, these expensive solutions fall short of solving the pain of coordinating meetings with people inside and outside their organizations, on different platforms (Windows, Mac, Linux) and calendar applications (Outlook, iCal, Google Calendar), across time zones and geographic locations.
Interested? Read on after the break and find out a little more and there is a nice video that gives a terrific overview. It convinced me to sign up for the beta!

What does it give you? You will be able to take advantage of push Hotmail access, Windows Live Contacts synchronization, a Live Search bar for your homescreen and one-click photo upload to Windows Live Spaces.

MoovieLive extends the movie experience for PowerDVD 8 users from watching movies to online social activities
CyberLink Corp. today officially launched MoovieLive.com a brand new web service for movie fans and PowerDVD users.
Like all art forms, movies transcend boundaries and unite people of different cultures with common interests. “In the offline world, so many social activities can evolve from a box office movie,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “With today’s internet technologies MoovieLive extend that movie experience from purely watching to a series of online social activities and connecting PowerDVD users across the world with the same movie interests and exploring new movies from friends.”
MoovieLive.com is an extended web service for PowerDVD 8 users to rate movies, write reviews and find friends with similar movie taste. The website also works seamlessly with PowerDVD to build a database of movie information contributed by millions of PowerDVD users worldwide.
MoovieLive.com also serves as a platform to upload and share Movie Remix files created by PowerDVD users. Movie Remix allows users to overlay graphics, objects, subtitles or voice over the original movie title. Movie Remix can be used creatively by movie enthusiasts to create new stories from existing DVD titles or to express their views in unconventional ways.

Another new Windows Mobile Related Blog to Launch
Posted by Chris Leckness on 03/31/08 in The Internet
Tommorow, yet another Windows Mobile related blog is launching. No, it’s not one of mine. I am not creating any new sites for a while, in fact, I am questioning my future with any sites right now. No, this one is created by a couple people blogging at other places that have come together to create this one. From the soft launch last week, it seems like they will be reviewing software, post info about software news and releases, and offer software contests. They seem to be dedicating it to just Windows Mobile. (link)
