Got a few extra pounds to lose? Do you have that desire to try and help others? Of course you do (we all do) and here is an incredibly neat way for you to do it all.

plus3network is a new site that combines exercise and charity and at the same time will get YOU corporate sponsorship for your everyday exercise activities. Pretty cool, huh? I thought so too! Every walk you take, mountain you climb, bike trail you traverse and mile that you swim will help keep you fit AND earn cash for the charity of your choice.

It is pretty simple to get into this program. You sign up (at NO COST), choose your cause you want to support and start exercising. Plus 3 will find a corporate sponsor for your charity who is willing to make donations for each mile of exercise activity. You just have to record your walking, running, biking or swimming on Plus 3. You can enter information manually or upload GPS data (so I knew you were wondering how this post related to Mobile Devices) that includes the course, the pace, the distance and the date (GPS data earns significantly more for your charity).

Interested? Want to know more? Check out the FAQ or sign up at the plus3network here.

Here is a pretty cool program that allows you to your current geographic location and request a friend’s phone to give you his or her location.

In just a few seconds, or a minute, you can review your position on the map, with no worry about pre-installed maps, because it’s downloading from the Internet.
The second, and even maybe a more important possibility of this program is, in the same short time, you can “ask” someone’s phone (who has this program installed too), about his/her current location. In reply you review his/her position on the map, and the calculated distance and direction between yours.

This program is freeware as long as it’s enough for you, to get own location and receive someone’s external location, ONLY ONE TIME DAILY.

If you want to get several times, unlimited times daily, you may buy and unlock this program to the fully-operates version.

Part of the problem is finding the time but that comes down to motivation. With the wonders of this socially networked age it’s easier to use technology to help with that motivation.

The geek in me likes stats. If I know I’m doing good, and overall improving against myself or friends then I have the incentive to keep going and doing better. You can do something simple like maintaining an excel spreadsheet or twittering your workout but as someone who’s recently rediscovered cycling after 20 years in cars I’m really blown away by SportsDo. All you need is a Windows Mobile device with GPS capabilities, a data connection and … to get off the computer and get some exercise!

Your first step is to register on the SportsDo.Net website and create a profile. From there you can download and install the Windows Mobile client (other devices are supported) or you can visit their over-the-air provisioning site directly from your phone (you can try out the application before buying – you’re just limited to the distance you can cover).

Lifecasting is a big thing at the moment. One step beyond blogging and tweeting is the ability to record and broadcast live video from a cellphone to share what you’re doing – and engage with your audience.

Qik is probably the best known of these, and is slowly rolling out an early beta service for Windows Mobile users. But Qik are not the only game in town – there are a couple of existing solutions that have great support for Windows Mobile users.

LiveCast provide a live video streaming platform for Windows Mobile and laptop or UMPC users. The video is synchronized with GPS position data so your viewers can see where you are when you’re broadcasting (or when they review archived footage where you were).

While the video quality on LiveCast (formerly known as PocketCaster from ComVu) is pretty good for high end phones the client is not the most intuitive (so expect to spend some time figuring it it), and the web site is a bit clunky. (more…)

This launch also debuts Street Atlas USA® 2009 DVD mapping software, for family and everyday use, and the more feature-rich Street Atlas USA 2009 PLUS DVD, aimed at business and advanced users. AT&T Inc. announced today at CTIA Wireless 2008, the immediate availability of its company-branded GPS-enabled navigation service, AT&T Navigator.

AT&T Navigator is designed to provide you with clear and precise audible and visual turn-by-turn driving directions, including full-color moving maps, using GPS directly from your wireless phone. Working with TeleNav, whose navigation service has been available on AT&T PDAs since 2006, AT&T is now introducing its own branded next-generation GPS navigation service for all consumers. The service is available on GPS-capable PDAs and handsets, including the new consumer-focused Motorola Z9.

“AT&T Navigator offers travelers a more convenient alternative than using printed maps or expensive stand-alone navigation devices by allowing them to use a device they always have with them — their wireless phone,” said Mark Collins, vice president of Consumer Data for AT&T’s wireless unit. “AT&T Navigator is an ideal tool for all of our customers, whether they are trying to get directions to a new restaurant uptown, an important business meeting downtown or the high school reunion out of town. It’s truly an example of handset personalization and mobilization at its best.”
