I have not had the opportunity to play with the HTC Diamond yet so there are a variety of features that I am unaware of.  Today I saw a piece on Jason Langridge’s WebLog on how you can Disable and Switch Off Mute Call On Phone Flip Face Down Feature in HTC Touch Diamond.  What a cool feature!  I guess some folks want to turn it off and if you do, here is a link to My Digital Life that gives a quick and easy registry hack to do that.

HTC-Diamond

The HTC Touch Diamond comes with a 3-axis accelerometer that senses the orientation of the phone, and is able to mute the incoming call ringing tone audio alert if the user flips the phone face down.  Very cool!

HTCExtFun - Changes your Keyboard Automagicly

This is for those of you that have the HTC Touch Diamond or Touch Pro. Those devices have a sensor in the Stylus slot that senses whether or not the stylus is slotted or not. This software allows the device to change keyboards on the fly depending on whether the stylus is out or not. When it’s out, it assumes you are using it. (What if it’s lost) Here is a nice demo video of this software in action.

HTC Touch Diamond is now Coming To America

touch_diamond_front I hope someone is getting the Eddie Murphy movie reference here. Anyhow, two days ago. I shared info that the HTC Touch Pro was coming based on an FCC Filing. Now it’s older brother, the HTC Touch Diamond has hit the FCC for approval as well.

Documents seen on the FCC site reveal some details about a new version of the HTC Touch Diamond. The Touch Diamond was first announced by HTC in May. The original version did not support U.S. 3G spectrum bands. This new version seen on the FCC site includes WCDMA 850/1900, and also confirms Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and Wi-Fi. HTC has not said when this variant of the Touch Diamond will become available. HTC announced a CDMA variant of the Diamond earlier this month.

One week with the HTC Touch Diamond

HTC sent Matt Miller an HTC Touch Diamond last week and he posted some unboxing and first thoughts on it later that day that we posted here.  So now he has had it a week and put his thoughts together about the device.  It is well worth the read as describes performance, battery life, camera functionality, and more.

What were his final thoughts?  This is part of his conclusion:

The HTC Touch Diamond is not perfect and there are a few issues that need to be updated soon to provide for a solid experience, yet I think these can be addressed with a firmware update. I will be buying one of these as soon as the U.S. model that works with AT&T or T-Mobile’s 3G network is released.

HTC Touch Diamond Thoughts from Gartenberg

Michael Gartenberg has been pawing the Diamond and shares his quick thoughts so far…

2. The VGA resolution along with the TouchFlo 3D UI is really pushing the limits of the processor. Every so often, the unit lags a half second or so behind me. It’s not horrible but it is annoying.

3. It’s possible for most users to use this device without every seeing Windows Mobile underneath. TouchFlo UI is lovely to look at and work with and changes the whole Windows Mobile experience into something that looks like it was built in this century. Microsoft, please note what HTC is doing here.

4. Following a gadget trend, this device is extremely caress-able but it also will show every fingerprint and smudge. Matte finishes anyone?

So, let me get this strait, users that don’t know this is a Windows Mobile device could continue to not know this is a Windows Mobile Device? Cool.

"Physical feedback can immerse you in a game"

This is a comment from Matt Miller as he was blown away after spending a  spent a few hours with the HTC Touch Diamond.  He just had to post about the accelerometer and physical feedback that just blew him away on the device.

The real shocker for me though, was what happens when the ball hits a wall/side. You physically feel the hit in the actual area where the ball hits the wall. Plus, the vibration/feedback varies by how far the ball travels before it hits the wall/side. I played the unlocked iPhone version of this game, but the feedback on the Touch Diamond adds a whole new element. My wife is not easily impressed by my devices, but this alone made her say she wanted a Touch Diamond.

The HTC Touch Diamond, an unboxing and first look

Matt Miller from ZDNet got an HTC Touch Diamond and has a couple of videos to share with you.  The first is an unboxing that is rarely Matt’s thing but he did one and it was worth watching.  Matt said that he thought you would enjoy the unboxing video below, I did and I expect you will too.

He also did an initial turn on and setup video for you to check out and promised that he’ll do a 2nd look post with a video of the TouchFLO 3D in action. Take the time to read his thoughts and check out all the pictures in his gallery of photos at The Mobile Gadgeteer .

As expected, HTC announced the HTC Touch Diamond today in London. I mentioned the leaked specs yesterday and they look very nice except on thing, the battery. 900mah? I sure hope HTC stumbled into some new battery consumption method that uses far less juice.
