Review - Palm Treo Pro

treopro If you’ve been reading my sites for a while, you’d know that ever since the Treo 700w hit Verizon a couple years ago, I have had a soft spot for the Palm Treo line. The Treo 700w was the 1st Treo to come out with Windows Mobile. That was huge in my book for Palm. Following on, The Treo 750 became my go to phone for about 6-9 months and I really loved the phone and email experience on the 750.

This year, Palm released the Treo 800w on Sprint. If history would repeat it’s self, you would have expected a GSM version of the 800w a few months later. I was expecting to see a Treo 850 on AT&T sometime late 2008. I am not sure if Palm will offer a Treo 800w in the GSM variety, but they have released the Palm Treo Pro, unlocked in the GSM Variety. That is what I have been using for the last couple weeks.

The Palm Treo Pro is a Windows Mobile phone that breaks out of the typical, yet popular, Treo mold that we’ve all become familiar with. The progression has gone from the early Treos with the big antenna to the sleek, antenna-less Treo 750, to the smaller (non Windows Mobile) Centro, to the Treo 800w, and finally a new chapter in the book in the Treo Pro.

The Treo Pro is a slim, more modern phone with a glossy black finish. The Treo Pro has been manufactured by one of the leaders in mobile phones, HTC too. The buttons have been moved around a bit from the Treo and the keyboard has been redone to be smaller.

Palm Treo Pro - More Info and Photos

Some info surfaced about a hot new phone from Palm last week. Late last week, even more info came out making this probably the most leaked device yet from Palm. Leaks or not, this thing looks like it’s going to be a hit. Enjoy some nice photos that have surfaced.

Palm Treo Pro? If it’s Real, It’s HAWT!!!

I am not sure about the legitimacy of these images, but I have to say that if they are… Bravo Palm. Wow. That is a sexy phone.

Some guy over at Treo Central found a link (now dead) to a flash training demo. Sharkweek? Here is an image of what the tipster is calling the Treo 850. Time will tell, but it look promising and Palm has been working hard to support Windows Mobile more so than their own OS.

Palm Treo 800w - Review

800 There is a nice review of the Palm Treo 800w over at  Mobile Tech Review that you might want to read.  I have loved the Palm form factor and have been excited to see and use the new 800w.  There is no question in my mind that the one-handed and overall usability of Palm devices is the best.

It is a “competitive phone with GPS, WiFi and EVDO along with a few goodies like Sprint TV. These days, the market is crowded with amply endowed WinMo phones, and the Treo doesn’t stand out or raise the bar. It’s likely audience will be those who are already sold on the Palm usability experience and the Treo’s good ergonomics. The 800w does have one advantage over its keyboarded Windows Mobile competition on Sprint (the HTC Mogul and the Treo 700wx): twice as much memory. That’s an important point for power users who want to run several applications simultaneously.”

Treo 800w Confirmed Sprint Roadmap

Well, it’s not really news that the Treo 800W is coming, but it’s become quite a bit more official seeing this roadmap and while the carrier has been rumored to be Sprint for a while, this too is now confirmed. I am evaluating the Sprint version of the BlackJack II, the Samsung Ace right now, but I am really looking forward to this release. Palm Treos have done a ton for the Windows Mobile community and the form factor and implementation of Windows Mobile has been excellent in the past. The Verizon 700w offering at CES 2006 was ground breaking for Palm. Bring it on Sprint!
