Data Restore for Dummies
There was a nice article I read today by KathleenT who wrote a piece to help others recover data from their mobile phone’s memory card in the event you experienced a loss of data. Kathleen lost all her vacation photos and was frustrated trying to find a solution. After finally finding a solution and recovering ALL her lost files, she put together a little piece to share with everyone in the hopes that you will not experience the same frustration she experienced.
Kathleen used Card Export and Memory Card Data Recovery and clearly is happy with the result.
Take a moment and checkout Kathleen’s article here at Data Restore for Dummies. It is nice that she felt strong enough to share her experience and how she solved it with others. Nice job Kathleen!

A Cool File Explorer Extension
This freeware by Hou Ming is a very cool (and very small) add on for File Explorer that adds a lot of missing features that will enhance your ability to work with files on your device.
Here are some of the fantastic “must have” features it adds:
-
Resizable header for easy sorting by file name, date of last modification or size
-
Tree view of folders; you can now jump easily from a location to any other on your device in one step
-
Icon view that enables the display of files as icons similar to your desktop computer
-
Real time image preview; now you don’t have to open several files in order to send the one you desire
-
Show extension option for those who ask themselves the same question I do: “What type of file is this?
-
Open with Program allows you easily select an application to open the specific file you select (useful in case you don’t have the correct file associations or when you want Album app to open your images instead of Windows default picture viewer.
-

PowerSMS - a cool beta application
This is a very cool beta application that I saw over at Jason Langridge’s WebLog. It has 6 useful text messaging utilities in 1 cool application.
PowerSMS is a mobile application for people who love text messaging. It enables a number of interesting communication scenarios, which are either cumbersome or impossible without it.
PowerSMS does not replace your phone’s built-in text messaging features. Instead, it works with the same folders and messages you already have. It’s simple, performs tasks quickly, and gets out of the way. Use PowerSMS to improve communications with your family, friends and colleagues, and they’ll wonder how you do it!

MobileMonger
How’s your memory? Are you always concerned about what is available? Do you wonder just how it is being used? Here is a neat program that I found over at PocketNow via WMExperts that will tell you everything you need to know on how your device’s memory is being used in a graphical format that is very clear.
From the author:
I recently got a HTC Diamond device and have been very happy with it. One of the first things I did was load it up with all sorts of applications. Even though the device has a 4GB Internal Storage card, if you are not careful about where you install things you can run out of Main Memory very fast.
When running out of Main Memory I wondered what was using it. If you hit the link provided in the Windows Mobile memory settings screen it takes you to an explorer window that shows you all files greater than 64kb. In Windows CE 1.0 this was probably helpful, but they don’t seem to have updated it since.
The usual tool I use for this job on the PC is the last free version of Space Monger. I tried to point SpaceMonger at my phone through ActiveSync WMDC but found since its not a real redirection SpaceMonger couldn’t do it. So I wrote an equivalent for Windows Mobile - MobileMonger.
Download:
- Just the CAB - I know what what I’m doing.
- Windows Installer for ActiveSync/WMDC.
You may need .NET Compact Framework 3.5 if you don’t have it already.

JGUI’s GPS.Friend
Here is a pretty cool program that allows you to your current geographic location and request a friend’s phone to give you his or her location.
In just a few seconds, or a minute, you can review your position on the map, with no worry about pre-installed maps, because it’s downloading from the Internet.
The second, and even maybe a more important possibility of this program is, in the same short time, you can “ask” someone’s phone (who has this program installed too), about his/her current location. In reply you review his/her position on the map, and the calculated distance and direction between yours.
This program is freeware as long as it’s enough for you, to get own location and receive someone’s external location, ONLY ONE TIME DAILY.
If you want to get several times, unlimited times daily, you may buy and unlock this program to the fully-operates version.

TouchXperience - A Different Windows Mobile Experience
The current rage for mobile device development is a user interface that changes the standard look and feel that we have been used to. Device manufacturers have implemented their own plugins that give a richer experience and now we are starting to see developers produce applications that offer unique ways of getting that new robust user experience. TouchXperience is one such application that will offer a different user experience offering a variety of “finger friendly” features.
TouchMenu is probably the most powerful and customizable menu, replacing original Start Menu for an innovative touch interface. TouchMenu supports finger scrolling and gestures, for example you can switch from a menu to another by sliding your finger left/right, or display context menu by a long press on the screen. You can also scroll menus using G-sensor. Each menu has four different views (large list, small list, large grid, small grid). As the rest of the future user interface, TouchMenu has a nice Vista/WM7 look.
Hit the link and check out the 5 videos showing you a new touch experience on Windows Mobile.
Snap2Face – Cool Facebook Application

Some of the neat features you will find are:
Sleek, graphic-rich user interface

View friends’ friends and send friendship requests
View your pokes, wall, inbox, and friend requests, all in full text
Poke friends, send message to friends, and post on friends’ wall
